So, Monster Magnet is resurfacing this year. They have a new album dropping in October with a US tour at the end of the year.
Check out a new track, The Duke (of Supernature),here. I still crank Superjudge out from time to time. 60's psychedelia space rock goodness.

Different colours. My blue one shrunk in the laundry and will be a patch soon anyway. Also it's a bad rear end shirt.

It doesn't sound like many people were, tbh. The brief press release-y thing that Fact posted made it sound like this would be quite different though.

That Monster Magnet artwork piqued my interest too. If you haven't heard Tab from those guys, it might be worth your time. It is 32 minutes of stoner psychedelia and probably one of the best things they've done.

Oh, David...
I haven't expected much from Monster Magnet for a long time, but that new track is pretty cool. Nice production, and I like how the intensity picks up at the end. I'll have to check them out when they hit Vancouver in the fall.

I still miss the old, "scary" Monster Magnet, though. They lost most of that edge when Mcbain left the band.

Vista Chino's debut album leaked yesterday. They didn't fix poo poo on Dargona Dragona with regard to the drums being A.) out of time, B.) recorded with potatoes, and C.) sounding like rear end, which upsets me more than it should, but whatever. I got my tickets to see them in Calgary on Sept 6th for the first show of their North American tour (with BLACK PUSSY, FUUUUUUUUUUUCK YEAH!!) so I'm pretty stoked regardless. I'm also enjoying the interplay between Brant and John sharing vocal duties. Heh, duties.

That sucks. Are the drums garbage through the whole thing? I was hoping that Dragona file they put up for streaming a few weeks ago was a demo. :(

It's mostly the same production all the way through. A few tracks you can look past it, but for the most part it sounds like the drumkit was recorded with a single microphone from another room completely. If they had put a bit more work into close miking the individual drums and mixing them up front, this could have easily been my favourite album of the year. It just sounds so... different than everything else that Brant and John have their name on. Not like Kyuss, not like Hermano, Unida, BB&tB, etc. :sigh:

That being said, I'm probably overthinking it right now. I'll probably learn to love it. It's a step in a different direction, in any case.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5ZZtkDq1G4

Black Betty's self-titled (and only, sadly) album. It's nothing too unusual, just fun stoner metal/rock with big riffs and big vocals and plenty of catchy bits. The band has been on indefinite hiatus since the album came out in 2007 I believe, but it's worth checking out! They could probably benefit from having a bassist but it works well without.

Aug 21, 2010
I think it was pretty varied, but I'm also not that knowledgeable of a Melvins fan (I only have Bullhead, Houdini, Freak Puke and The Bulls & the Bees). Here's what they played according to setlist.fm:

Hag Me
The War on Wisdom
We Are Doomed
Sweet Willy Rollbar
A Growing Disgust
Let It All Be
Your Blessened
Night Goat
Lizzy
Billy Fish
The Water Glass
Evil New War God
Hung Bunny
Roman Dog Bird
Graveyard (Butthole Surfers cover)

Their set in Chicago had three more songs.

Sup alone Melvins fan buddy. I was actually going to see Swans last night, but both friends I was going to go with bailed, so I picked a show that was slightly cheaper and closer, plus I like the Melvins more. I also skipped out on Mastodon, who I didn't realize were playing Cleveland until a few hours earlier.

Apparently Swans got police to issue a noise complaint.

Melvin's set list...
I'm both surprised and impressed that the set lists from two shows were so different (especially because the band was so tight and well rehearsed)

Charmicarmicat
Hung Bunny
Roman Dog Bird
Hag Me
Hog Leg
Antitoxidote
Wispy
With Teeth
Hooch
Honey Bucket
Revolve
Night Goat
Lizzy
It's Shoved
Anaconda
At the Stake
Queen
Cow
(some big ol' drone jam somewhere around here)
Your Blessened
Shevil

I also feel pretty lucky - whoever was touring with them on that leg of the tour couldn't play for whatever reason, so the Melvins started early and played longer.

Henchman of Santa posted:

This is not a surprise. I saw them Tuesday and while ear plugs saved my ears, my body felt as if it was assaulted by the sound (though realistically, I was probably sore because of tensing up so much - the show was really intense).
