I am flabbergasted. 3 MM albums mentioned here and zero of them are Dopes to Infinity. I know this isn't Stoner/Doom/Sludge thread, but...

Funny because the sound when they played in Oakland was awful. I think Jari's mic was coming out of one side and his guitar the other.

That Seattle '89 concert off Binge & Purge is all the proof you need to show that no matter how much people view Metallica as old grandpas now, they had it back in the day. That set has so much energy.

The guitars without the downtuning sound like pissed off hornets. It's just so good.

Also, Jason's hair is the Skrillex undercut.

Oh man, I'm stoked for this and their next album (right!?). The comment "Mindblaster heavy metal!!!" about sums it up.

I started reading The Children of Hurìn recently and it put me in the mood for Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle Earth - any recommendations for more metal about Lord of the Rings & the Tolkien mythos? I've got a lot of Summoning and the Italian black metal band Nazgul (which I recommend, they're a bit weird and the vocals might not do it for you but I think they're great), but am drawing a blank on anything else.

Gorgoroth, Amon Amarth, Cirith Ungol, Minas Tirith, Burzum, Isengard, Shadowfax, Gandalf, Sauron, Mordor, Morgul, Ephel Duath, Fangorn, Gothmog, Orkrist, Arwen, Balrog, White Whizzard (a little bit of a stretch but it fits) and Christopher Lee. Basically every other Metal band has a name from the Silmarilion. Oh yeah there's a band called Silmaril. Not all of these bands are Tolkien themed per se, but you'll find some in there.

A large portion of old prog / metal by Zeppelin, Rush, Sabbath, etc were inspired by JRRT also.

Haha I just put on an album by this band (Evernight) right before opening this thread. Had no idea they had anything to do with LotR but sometimes coincidences work out in your favor (and picking a random power metal album I have is probably likely to end up LotR related anyway). Thanks for the recs!

They always extend it out to five or six times the length of the album recording and talk over it and get the crowd to sing along, and it goes on a lot longer and it kind of takes all the impact out of that bit. Pet hate. The crowd would sing along correctly even if they didn't do it, and it would be a cool, badass little interlude.
