Ha beaten'd. Yeah even I think Phantom Limb knows not to gently caress with KG. KG. you can tell even the Monarch felt sorry for him in the state he was in. Shindragon fucked around with this message at 18:55 on Aug 13, 2013 |

SlothfulCobra posted:Come to think of it, why did Phantom Limb kill all of them, but leave King Gorilla, the only one who actually helped the Monarch escape, completely unharmed so that he could die in peace? All the others did what Limb told them, but KG defied, so maybe he was thinking, "You know, screw those other guys because they were punks. But you KG? You didn't betray your principles, so I'll give you a pass..." Either that or he let is slide as a bit of a thanks (Hey, he got the Monarch out, which helped Limb move on to his next phase more easily) or a mercy/torture because of the cancer (he was dying anyway or letting him slowly die vs. a quick death.)

A question that's been bugging me is why does Orpheus act surprised that Dermott can summon him? He and Al know Doc's shameful secret, their spell is the reason Hank needed the memory-wipe in the first place!

For example, Doctor Who blu-rays actually jumped street date by a few days this spring and people were getting them before the finale of that season actually aired. This is actually a bad example since that was probably faked to drum up interest in the finale.

That's how I read the scene as well. The Halloween episode indicated he felt sorry for Dermott for how Doc treats him, so it would make sense that he would want to tip Dermott off.

Honestly I thought he was going to get his brain wiped when he learned about the love child. I mean it was so bad that Al wanted to as well. Of course Al didn't after learning he and Shoreleave were a thing.

Jackson and Doc did an enlightening walkthrough of Season 5 for the AV Club. Not as in-depth or as focused as a lot of the other AV Club showrunner chats, but they do explain why the ending felt so abrupt and the broader themes of the season. Plus there's lots of fun stuff like:quote:AV Club: This show has a complex mythology. In “O.S.I. Love You,” Monstroso tells Brock Samson that the Sovereign is, in fact, not the real David Bowie, but a shape-shifter who takes on David Bowie’s appearance. Would this count as a retcon? And how much do you try and keep the mythology consistent?

I loved the parts where they talk about their general philosophies of writing and characters and so on, without even getting deep into the specifics of the show. It's especially nice that they're not sticking to the "show about failure" notion. I could read that for ages.

There are quite a few examples that are similar. Production on these episodes ended quite some time ago so there should be ample time for the small amount of special features they will include. All of this season's episodes had copyright 2012 in the credits. Everything's probably been in the can for a while.

Of course loving AV Club unironically brings up failure repeatedly. But at least it gave Doc and Jackson the opportunity to give us another tagline to sperg over for the next five years: The TV IV> Venture Bros: Celebrating Humanity Guess we aren't allowed to make insane-but-just-barely-plausible theories anymore in the event that they're right, someone in the Astrobase reads it, and changes it just to gently caress with us. It's like that Hitchiker's Guide quote The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy posted:There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory, which states that this has already happened. Also, in October I plan on phoning a friend who watched "Assisted Suicide" when it aired three years ago on the day it aired, and said it was a bad episode, and after my fourth(?) rewatch, tell him it was one of the best of the show.

They always keep trying to be better. "A show about failure" is accurate in the sense that the characters are marked by failures- by themselves and their parents- but there's also been, especially in the last few seasons, a sense of incremental improvement. Hank and Dean won't be quite as hosed up as their dad is. The Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch have finally established a relationship that's good for them. Things won't be great but they're coming to terms with some of the damage that's been inflicted on them in the past. What really makes the show work is that it does have that heart, it holds up a slim promise that we can maybe improve ourselves. That may be why Spanikopita! was so awesome. It was Rusty having something that satisfied him, and it was an illusion, but it was real to him. Very modernist.

Haven't been keeping up with the thread...but anyone else in the US not get all their shirts? The last one I got was the Council of 13 shirt. I got it on the 5th of August, and no shirts or emails since then. There should be 2 more, right? The Henchman one that's like what Gary/24 had, and the bonus "TECHNICOLOR" one?
