Most of them aren't shoegaze but Versus, Rose Melberg, Honeybunch, The Pastels, Jim Ruiz and Lois are all fantastic. Never listened to Dump but YLT is good as well!

I'm a huge Curve fan - how were they live?

My hazy memory tells me they were awesome. Loud, in your face, and very very cool to look at as well. Toni Halliday had a wind machine blowing in her face, so it made her look like she was singing into a wind tunnel. Best one I saw of them was at Salisbury Arts Centre, which is an old church - fit the sound kinda well!

When I saw them on the American leg of the rollercoaster tour, (with Jesus and Mary Chain and Spiritualized which pretty much was a mind melting experience for me) it was a symphony of buzzsaw guitar and those dancey early 90's beats similar to what JAMC was playing with on Honey's Dead. There was strobe and a lot of smoke. They did "Cherry" she stayed ghostly in the fog until the song exploded and she was right in our face and I found myself in love with the world. "Fait Accompli" just oozed sex and she was almost menacing with the "I've come to crush your bones" line.

I saw them again with the Dandy Warhols in support of Come Clean and they were somewhat more of a straight up rock band bearing more resemblance to Garbage than they're 90's roots.

I missed the Cuckoo tour and I still lose sleep over it.

Now I want to go home and find my Curve LP's.

I'm listening to this new album by Still Corners on Youtube and it's pretty enjoyable so far. Never even heard of them before, it just popped up in my subscriptions.

Amazon posted:

Where its predecessor, 2010's Creatures of an Hour, also on Sub Pop, soared on sugared layers of shoegazing-infused retro-futurism, Strange Pleasures proffers a leaner, more acute extrapolation of '80s-suffused song and studio craft, navigating a sinuous trajectory between velveteen noir-pop and the glacial, mellifluous territory mapped by Modern English, The Cure and The Passions.

Nice find. Subpop has a bunch of good shoegaze/dreampop bands on their label.

2013 is shaping up to be an amazing year for this genre. M B V, new Medicine single and upcoming album, Loop live reunion and now new stuff in the pipeline from Kitchens of Distinction: http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2013/05/07/kitchens-of-distinction-reunion-new-album/

Maybe the long awaited Ride and Slowdive reunions will be next...

A little birdie told me that the Ride one will happen, just not yet. So I'd imagine once the Beady Eye new campaign is out of the way...

However, I wouldn't hold your breath (no pun intended) on the Slowdive one at all - really don't think that'll happen.

Neil Halstead was teasing it in a recent interview. Not holding my breath at all, but hard not to get little excited considering Slowdive are my all-time favourite band.

Aye, that was bollocks though wasn't it. Just him plugging his new record, and alluding to a possibility of a Slowdive reunion got more column inches.

I'd love to see them again though - last time I saw them was on that double-headline tour with Cranes when Souvlaki came out, incredible gigs. Saw them at the Manchester gig and the London one at the Garage too.

Wish Kitchens Of Distinction would play live again though - I think they've ruled that out though.

True.

I'd still be incredibly surprised though if Slowdive reformed in the next few years though, mainly
because a one or two members have very young children, not to mention having other projects on the
go.

I was really hoping Kitchens Of Distinction would play again too, but Patrick has ruled out any
live dates, even though they are writing new material.

I saw him on his solo tour last year and when I asked him about the possibility of a reunion he didn't seem put off by it at all. I'd be just about as happy if Mojave 3 got back together, though. I was happy enough to hear him play Alison and 40 Days, but with a band it would have been spectacular.

Does anybody know of any artists similar to Tokyo Shoegazer, MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS and NUMBER GIRL? I'm straight up hooked on this sound right now, particularly MotFD and to an extent Number Girl, though I know NG is a little more on the noise side of things. I just can't find anyone that nails it like these artists do. More into the heavier/noisier shoegaze and less so the pop stuff, but willing to give anything a go.

I went to see Kurt Vile last night and the opening band was The Swirlies, which was a pretty cool blast from the past. They sounded pretty great, too-- a little shambolic at times, but that's how their records were. So if you wanna see The Swirlies, just know that they're probably coming through town soon.

There's a Japanese shoegaze band named Meeks that recently released an album dedicated to covers of Beatles tunes. I'm not sure if shoegaze versions of Beatles songs has been done before, but it was pretty interesting to listen to!

Hello thread. If you like dream pop, there's a good chance you've heard of and enjoy Mazzy Star. But did you know they have their first album in 17 years coming out in two weeks?(Both MBV and Mazzy Star finally release new albums after around two decades? :swoon:) More importantly, did you know they're putting on a small North American tour and tickets are on sale now!

Also, obligatory new songs. It's basically the same as always, slow, hazy, dreamy music.

I saw Nothing, a Philly shoegaze band, a couple weeks ago on tour with Whirr and enjoyed their stuff. I was particularly impressed with their drummer, who does a lot of interesting fills among relatively standard shoegaze drone, but they have a good sound and energy.
