Hah, I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked up on the similarities between Flame Princess' garb and Azula's. Great episode. Kept swinging from one vine to the next, but I thought it did so with perfect pacing.

I liked how it seemed like Cinnabun was being his usual dumb self when he just walked into the door but it turned out it was a conscious act of rebellion.

Yes, I was surprised at how good the pacing was in this episode, especially considering AT sometimes has trouble with that given the short length. Another reason why I love Flame Princess; her episodes are always really good.

I've never seen whatever that show is that you're drawing parallels to in the FP picture (Avatar?) But isn't she just wearing a version of her father's armor while on the throne? That was my first thought on that suit of armor. EDIT: Hell, doing a GIS of "adventure time fire king" shows what some people were making fan art of FP in her father's role before this episode aired even. An armor dress, something close to what this episode had, and even a Fire Ice King for some reason. (I am glad that Google's safe search was probably preventing me from seeing anything else worse from the fanart). vv The same can be said about whoever that is from the other show. Another morally ambiguous choice by PB. Locking a newborn baby up. She did technically save FP's life, but didn't really seem to care that Flame King was fine with straight-up killing his daughter. I just realized cbun's grayble was a bit prescient of this development. He wanted soft light to the point where he enjoyed staying in a burning house, peebles wouldn't let him have soft light. So two of the five graybles were setups for plot events.

As lovely as it sounds, FP isn't PB's responsibility. If FK were to relinquish control to the Candy Kingdom, he would be giving potential enemies a powerful tool to overthrow him. So, he did the logical thing that any power-hungry dictator would: he put his flame daughter in a lamp. A true ruler can't let her actions be influenced by her emotions. e: abbreviations Zeruel fucked around with this message at 01:51 on Sep 4, 2013 |

It's not that Bubblegum did what she did, but that she showed no regret or remorse or, then and since, any ability to empathise with Flame Princess at all. Really what FP needs is some friend who actually tries to understand her. Bubblegum doesn't care, Finn is too distracted by infatuation, Cinnamon Bun is an oblivious idiot, her father is an uncaring tyrant - she really doesn't have anyone.

Looking back, Cinnamon Bun has actively disliked PB for a while. He ate her sandwich without even tasting it, belched it in her face and then went "Peace out!" When PB asked him to do something about Treetrunks and Pig, he just ended her concert. He gets into a shouting match with her over the nightlight, and then finally in the last episode he straight up calls her bad and rebels against her. He has probably been waiting for a chance to get away from her for a long time.

Dolash posted:Honestly, all this slow buildup over the seasons is begging for an hour-long special or made-for-tv movie. Then again, trying to cram too much continuity into a single story (especially one that should be standalone, like a tv movie) would probably backfire and make it too obtuse for anyone who hasn't watched every episode. And to think, an hour long special is exactly what they're working on right now! Princess Bubblegum isn't evil, or a mad scientist; she's the government. She's a ruler ruling her subjects and that just doesn't sit well with a lot of democratically-minded (neoliberal hippie) show-watchers. Her goal is the safety and prosperity of the Candy Kingdom. That's her ONLY goal. Experimenting on tiny candy people in her basement? If it makes the Candy Kingdom more prosperous then sure. Upgrading Gumball Guardians? At every opportunity! Recruiting Finn as a Hero by sending him for the Enchridion and then turning to him whenever mid-level problems need solving? Obviously! She's like... a pre-World War II nation.

I'm glad we're getting another Magic Man episode. I always kind of viewed him as being the real unstoppable force of the show. Finn and Jake have toppled the Lick twice now, but realistically I can't ever see them beating Magic Man. Even when he had he powers shut off he "Won again! Just like always!" Also in the "Little People" episode they kind of implied he had a deity-like/Glob-like status. If I recall, Finn says the same thing to Little Finn at the end of the episode that Magic Man whispers at the beginning. To me that implies that Finn, Jake and Ooo are of the same level to Magic Man as the little people are to them. And I cannot express how much I adore that this deities only desire is to be an irritating rear end in a top hat.
