Got to spend a week driving around in this thing my dad bought to mow some fields and do general around the property work. It's a 1975 Ford 3400 industrial tractor. It runs on gas not diesel oddly enough, it's got a 2.6L 3 cylinder with 48hp and 128lb/ft of torque at an eye watering 1350 rpm. 8 forward gears, 2 reverse and a two stage clutch for the PTO/driveline. It was fun to play around with and it mows a 6 acre field a hell of a lot faster than anything else we have. There's also something satisfying about driving something so entirely mechanical and unforgiving, it's a unique little bastard to get started. Chokes and old carbs and all that but overall just a fun old toy for my dad to use and for me to get to play around with when I'm visiting. That car has aged so incredibly well. It's got a TINY amount of that "90's bubble" that was so pervasive in that decade but tighten up a few lines and that car could be released as brand new tomorrow.

2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, GSR. All of that badging was weighing my car down, so it's badgeless in the back, blacked out the front Mitsubishi badge. I'd like to remove it, but it needs to be taken to an auto-body shop for that. Being blacked out with plastiDip, you can hardly tell it's there. anproxx fucked around with this message at 02:09 on Sep 4, 2013 |

I pointed out a RX7 on the road to my wife and told her that the car was made in 1993; I had a bit of a moment when I realized that 1993 isn't 10 years ago but it's 20 years ago. She asked me what was wrong and I told her I felt really old very fast.

This is a big reality for the rest of us that used to dream of owning a new car when we graduated high school around 2000. Hard to believe I used to want a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and could dream of when I could afford it.... Now they are common as dirt and easily afford it after a pay check or two and pay for it in cash.

I literally didn't give a single gently caress about cars in high school. And then I barely cared about them in college. Now I have four, four spare/parts engines, more piles of parts than I care to think about, and two don't even run right now, what the hell happened?

My high school dream was a Lotus Esprit V8. Current dream-that-will-stay-a-dream is probably a Singer 911. If I ever magically start making 4x the money I make now, though, I'll pick up an NSX. I'm a sucker for popup headlights. PLOT TWIST: POST YOUR OTHER RIDE If you have a boring part of your stable (partner's car, family car, daily driver, work car) post it here. I'm interested to see how everyone balances out the fun stuff. The girlfriend's 99 Camry. Pretty much an average boring sedan, but I really am a fan of the 1MZ V6. Smooth as can be and really decent power. 120K-ish and still one of the quietest idling cars I've heard. Very few problems in the 9 years we've been dating. Other than an oxygen sensor its all been routine maintenance, oil and brakes.

I had to sell my Wrangler to get a lower payment. Ended up with a 2006 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE. I'm sure I'll get yelled at for this decision but, the car is clean rides great just need to replace the gangster grill for factory and do a headlight restoration and I'm set. Hopefully it is reliable as I've read, it seems deceptively quick.

I had a 2003 2.5 Altima, it was a pretty good car I'd say. Handled nicely, surprisingly peppy engine and cost less than Accord & Camry.

It's got something like 250,000 miles on it and he does all of his own maintenance. It looks sun-faded and beat up but it's used to its fullest.

Hashal posted:How do you like it? I've been thinking about picking one up since they are so cheap now. How's the maintenance? It's surprisingly reliable, at least the drivetrain is. The only big issue I've had is a seal in the bottom of the trunk went which inundated the interior computer with water causing the locks/alarm/windows to go haywire. That was about two grand to fix in the end. The connector for the electric seats is a huge piece of poo poo and likes to fall apart too, currently mine is working it's way loose again and the seats don't work sometimes. This is after I've removed them and replaced the connectors with new ones, then ziptied and gaffer taped them together so they can't come apart. Other than that just scheduled maintenance. Tires are probably the second biggest expense on the car, following closely behind gas. If you like to hear that supercharger whine it drinks like a horse, and it only drinks premium. The front and rear tires are different sizes as well as being directional so you can't rotate them at all. There also aren't that many tire choices in that size that are also Z-rated, it's currently on Michelin Super Sports since they seem to resist hydroplaning the best which is a real rear end-puckering moment in a car like that. You'll get about 15k miles out of a set if you don't do any burnouts. Getting a puncture from a nail or something is at minimum $500 if they can't repair it since you'll want to replace in pairs. Also there is no spare tire, just a can of fix-a-flat, an air compressor, and an SOS satellite phone button. The AMG version also only came with an automatic, but it is a surprisingly smart slushbox. It holds gears going downhill or in corners and is extremely aggressive about locking up the torque converter so you get real engine braking. It makes a very nice noise when you romp on it and makes cruising at 100mph feel like 50mph in most other cars. It's extremely well put together and feels like a one solid piece of German Girl Car. In the end it's a convertible hardtop with a supercharged V6 sending power to the right wheels. Put the top and your foot down on a nice day and it's impossible not to enjoy yourself.
