Any Australian goons going to Harvest Festival? It's worth it just for Neutral Milk Hotel but Eels, Despaeracidos (Conor Oberst's alt-country band) and Superchunk should be good.

I'm a Foundation Member :)

For me, Harvest is the best music festival around at the moment. Great music, great atmosphere, and none of the dickishness that you get with Big Day Out or Homebake. I can't wait to see Eels and Franz Ferdinand, and on a smaller scale Goldfrapp. But I've never really understood point of NMH, however many times I've listened to 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea'.

Au Revoir Simone has a new album coming out on September 23/24 (EU/NA), titled Moving In Spectrums on the newly-reactivated Instant Records. There's the lead single, "Somebody Who":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXr0v13mx-U

...and a promo (I think?) single, "Crazy":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP7lU6E0EcU

I've not yet listened to Still Life, Still Night from 2009 but I was sort of surprised at how almost dance-y "Somebody Who" was compared to their first EP and album, which I would describe as generally more fit for late-night introspection with songs like "Through The Backyards Of Our Neighbours" and "Fallen Snow".

Is this the thread where we can talk about Man Man? Because their new album is streaming on Pitchfork, and it's god drat amazing, like usual. Mike Mogis is producing again, but they've gone back to their more varied instrumentation from the pre-Mogis albums. For those who haven't heard them before, they're a fantastic mix of experimental and indie and they're all really talented multi-instrumentalists who can perform in a wide variety of styles.

I love how complex the music and vocal arrangements are yet it doesn't sound overly busy or any less absurdly melodic -- that's good arranging, I reckon! The Naked and Famous' new album In Rolling Waves just leaked (I have the CD pre-ordered already so a leak is just me picking it up early really. I suggest you pre-order too!). It's being properly released next week. Their first album Passive Me, Aggressive You was probably my favourite album in the last three years. Trying to decide between getting the vinyl or not (I would have to buy a player) but I'm definitely trying to get to the Sound Academy show in Toronto, even if it's on a work day.

I highly suggest one to pick up the original LP, maybe even the EPs and then check the new record out. So far so good.

Unconfirmed, but you can definitely hear the Arcade Fire in there. That said, it sounds totally different from their old stuff, which I assume is because David Bowie and James Murphy were working on the album as well. I'm pretty doggone excited for the whole album.

It's great, but I dunno, maybe it's because I loved their first album so much, but I feel like this one is a slight departure in style (a bit less catchy in the hooks?). Like I said, I think it's still great, just not as great. Maybe it needs more time to grow on me, on my second spin of it.

I just hope the new Arcade Fire album is less bloated than The Suburbs. It's not a bad album but it's probably five tracks longer than it needs to be. This single is a good sign, though. Mountains Beyond Mountains was the best track on The Surburbs, and this track reminds me a lot of that one.

(Also, for everyone who didn't like Neon Bible, try skipping the first and last tracks. The album instantly gets better.)

The Riot Jazz Brass Band's newish release Sousamaphone is seriously some of the most fun stuff I've ever heard this year. If you pick it apart, there's a lot of jazz and funk to be heard, but you can also pick up some DnB and footwork every once in a while. Everything about the album reminds me so much of all of the great school bands back in Louisiana, and it's rocketed up to my picks for AOTY almost for that reason alone. :allears:

Another pick of mine is lo-fi, goth pop, clearly-Suicide-influenced Jay Holy. A lot of people I've shown this to throw comparisons to Ariel Pink, but I find JH's work to be much more infectious and sleeker aesthetically.
