I think we know.

They might be 'beserkers' of some sort and so not exactly good in ordered ranks, which we would not know anything about at all. But we do know about Xuriel and Ishamal.

Ok. I have theory now based on the Sandal of Damat/Zepath. I ave tried putting the forest art against Olaphim. Anybody have better ideas for matches? We need to study some heraldry and the signs of of the Olaphim and various cities.

By the way, I'm not really sure about this theory. Remember, Damat wasn't even originally on the list of Olaphim - he got added in after someone asked Dio about any gods of exploration.

My current theory is that it has to do with Olaphim. Have we tried playing it with the Xuriel crew or Ishamal? Our sandals might just always work because we are always with Zepathans or in Zepath? :iiam:

Also. Ophanim. Not Olaphim.

A bit on names.

I tried to use not-mesopotamia/other near eastern sources for names, but to most of you, these may as well be gibberish words for names and I appreciate that it might be confusing.

We could switch to more conventional names if you want. You might call Melachim angels and Ophanim Arch Angels, but those are christian words which invoke baggage in your mind which may not relevant here, there has not been much if any references to Christian theology here. You might call them minor gods but even that implies information you were not told, just like the word angel.

We have been liberally stealing names from across time and space.

No one from Zepath has ever used the word angel, or the word god to describe El or the Melachim. They describe these supernatural creatures by their relationship to each other and the world and their history.

If it helps you, you MIGHT think of them as angels or gods but in our culture, those word comes with a LOT of baggage which may not fit the descriptions given here.

Would a glossary in the OP of some of the major names help? If you really want we could use more familiar names but I would be hesitant to do so otherwise.

I'm down with keeping the names as is - goons have a tendency to latch onto the weirdest things and insist on them being important or true, so having actual angels/arch-angels/whatever is just going to exacerbate the problem. A glossary and general repository of stuff we really should be remembering for whatever reason would be dang handy, though, if you don't mind the work.

After we're done praying, give Danal a running commentary like Tomn says. And make a mental note to compare our vision with others' later to figure out if ours is exceptionally good or Danal's is bad.

Paradise Lost: Clash of the Heavens!

"Didn't you hear the King?" you say to Danal. "It's name is Spawn!" Danal nods at your sagacious wisdom.

The city is slightly elevated from the surrounding farm land and the spot the armies are on sinks slightly as the land slopes down to the river, giving you an unobstructed view of events.

The giant beast, twenty feet tall and all muscle stops thirty yards from Tudiya and roars a loud and bestial roar which does not sound like speech, then drops it's immense club. The entire amy of minotaurs roar.

Tudiya drops his spear and his shield.

The men of Zepath cheer. Off to the side, Ishamal laughs and says something to his comrades, who also laugh.

Tudiya and the beast you have named Spawn slowly walk towards each other. Danal keeps asking you what occurs, for he can see the pair but it seems, not many details, you tell him what you see, as events unfold.

Tudiya raises his hands in front of him in tight fists. The giant of a minotaur roar lowers its head and immense horns and runs at Tudiya, who steps aside as the creature goes past and delivers a swift kick into the back of one of it's legs, causing it to trip and roar again in rage.

Spawn rises and reaches out with it's right hand many times the size of Tudiya's own hand and swings for Tudiya, who catches the beast hand in his own hand.

The two fall into the dirt in a tangle of wrestling legs, fists, legs, teeth, horns and roars, some of which seem to be coming from Tudiya.

The pair are ridiculously mismatched, Tudiya eight and a half feet tall and the giant minotaur nearly two and a half times Tudiya's size.

The minotaur horde roars encouragement and the men of Zepath yell their own.

There is blood, most of it the Minotaurs and a great deal appears a few moments later, when the creature tries to crawl away from Tudiya, bruised, battered and bloody, Tudiya then rips it's left leg off and....

...the minotaur roars in pain as the monstrous horde goes quiet, some stepping back slowly and a few giving bovine noises of fear, not at all unlike cows...

...and Tudiya then begins to wield the leg like an immense club and beat the creature to death with it.

A few more of the minotaurs begin to slowly back away. A few run. Ishamal says to one of his drinking buddies "Show off", they all laugh and then sit down on the dirt and drink, one pulls out a pair of dice.

"WOOOOOO! YEAH! KILL EM!" Danal is screaming wildly at this point and jumping up and down in excitement, you grab him with a hand to prevent him from falling off the statue upon which you are both perched, atop Tudiya's home.

Tudiya reaches down, grabs one of the minotaurs horns in each hand and snaps them off, then stabs each into one of the creatures ears.

The great beast goes silent and still.

Tudiya rises and yells loudly, his words almost have weight, you feel as if you could touch them.

RAISE UP YOUR SWORDS IN A SHOUT FOR EL AND BE UPON THEM! EL HA MELECH KOL HA OLAM!

A hundred or more horns are blown with a deafening roar and you feel your heart racing in your chest as the men of Zepath's army scream in unison "EEEEELLLLL!" and charge. You hear even the guards of Tudiya's home join the cry and others beyond in the city. The minotaurs bay loudly in fear and many begin to run... others look about uncertain, confused and very much afraid.

You feel a small voice in the back of your mind telling you that just about the greatest thing in the world, EVER, would be to chase those minotaurs this very moment. This voice is easily ignored if you decided to, but why would you want to?

1. Did you yell out "El!"
with everyone else?

A. YES! EEEELLLLL!
B. No.
C. I yell something else.

Danal certainly yells and is already moving to climb down the statue, he says, almost as an afterthought he says "Come on! We have to go! All the good trophies will be gone!"

A number of youths who watched from the city walls are starting to climb down.

2. As Danal starts to climb down you...

A. Hell yeah! I WANT to get where the action is! I climb down with him and we go.

B. Hell yeah! I HAVE to get where the action is! I climb down with him and we go.

C. I tell Danal no and to stay put. You will use one of the rationales which was popular in a previous vote, you do not need to say which if you do not wish to.

D. I ORDER Danal to stay put.

E. I grab Danal.

F. Something else. Fill in.

3. If you voted to leave in #2, you want to....

A. Go join the battle and stab me some running Minotaurs in the back! EEEELLLLL! WAAAAAGH!

B. Go grab some trophies before all the good ones are gone!

C. Watch from the walls, closer go the action.

D. Something else.

You might notice that Bareen and her small number of veteran adventurers cry out "Ganal!" and not El as they run, what are they carrying all that rope for?

You might also hear one of Ishamal's drinking buddies cry "Shwarma!" and join the fray, though the rest did not and laugh in response. In another cosmos, it might be called a "gyro". You know it to be a fatty piece of beef, lamb or goat slowly roasted and served with onions and spices.

Let's see if we can find any sort of marks upon the beast, any sort of information. Maybe collect some loot, weapons, if possible. No dumb ear trophies or anything like that.

Interesting that they're looking confused and afraid. Is it like they're waking up from, or being in a spell? What do our senses tell us about the behaviour of the beasts? What about the behaviour of the Zepathian army?

Just because their champion has been humiliatingly beaten, doesn't mean it's safe. As great as it would be to get out there, we should try to get Danal to move to the wall with us, but not without grabbing a shield, just in case our eagle eyes spot a stray projectile heading out way. If the Minotaurs get pushed back though, I think it may be safe for us to take a look at finding a nice trophy from that large minotaur or another that is close to the wall.
