So I keep listening to Reflektor and I unabashedly think it might be the best song of the last couple years or so. It's the boldest thing they've done to date (Sprawl II being the now-second boldest) and is not tiring no matter how much I listen to it.

I also have a very strong feeling that Bowie could tour with Arcade Fire. Being alongside them takes a lot of the weight off of his shoulders, and he already has both a history with the band prior to this album as well as the history of co-touring (NIN). At the very least, an SNL appearance wouldn't be unsurprising.

It sounds exactly like you would expect a James Murphy produced but not especially inspired Arcade Fire track with pointless David Bowie backing vocals to sound.

AM is a fantastic album. Pure rock and roll from start to finish. Their last couple of efforts were pretty forgettable but this new album has converted me. I feel like it's the album Josh Homme should have made with QOTSA earlier this year

I think it's the best album they've made yet. Every song is catchy as gently caress but there's that muscle that the album has. It really packs a punch. I liked the new QOTSA though, it's just more dark and brooding.

And yeah, Reflektor is amazing. Every time Arcade Fire gears up for dropping a new album, I always have to go back and listen to their discography to remind myself how good they are.

Okay so I only just now started listening to LCD Soundsystem (gently caress me, yeah I know). How closely related is that band and YACHT other than being signed to DFA? They sound very similiar and seem to be operating in the same kind of high minded obtuse "this band is a life project but it's pretty dancey too" sort of thing.

I'm a jerk who usually needs at least a little biographical info if a band doesn't immediately grab me so I started watching SUAPTH and these guys finally clicked a bit.

There is a very pervasive and specific DFA "sound". Compare every other band on the label to each other..then compare them another dance punk act like Chk Chk Chk. Hell even compare The Raptures "Echos" to "Pieces of the People We Love" to "In The Grace of Your Love".

There is a really good DFA mini-doc that you should check out.

YACHT are heavily inspired by LCD Soundsystem. "Summer Song" was their attempt at writing an LCD Soundsystem song. That whole album (See Mystery Lights) borrows from Murphy's stuff.

"Eat something made with love and joy - and be forgiven"
Anybody else been listening to the new Of Montreal album, Lousy with Sylvanbriar? It is really fantastic. The lyrics are not ridiculous, the music is not electro-synth-pop or whatever, it's a return to form from the old Of Montreal we all love (not that I didn't love their last couple albums). Very vocal and guitar driven. Good stuff.

Seriously, listen to these songs:

Re Chvrches shows: I saw them at Webster Hall back in June, and while they weren't, like, excellent (I don't think Lauren's voice plays all that well live), the music was still a bunch of fun even if more than half the tracks they played were unheard at that point. But after the show ended and they had played their Prince cover as the encore, there were small circles of people actually breaking out DANCING waiting to file out of the auditorium. The energy they put into everyone was just nuts.

So, naturally, I'm going to see them Sunday.

I haven't heard their new album yet, but I've had their album Hello Avalanche for a few years and really dig it. I always thought their song Truck was a perfect short little song, kind of like Fell In Love With A Girl by the White Stripes. Different genres of music, but yeah. Truck is just long enough to present a complete thought but not any longer than it needs to be. Just a very succinct song.

For something sort of similar, I'd recommend checking out El Ten Eleven if you haven't already. They have quite a few albums, so there's no shortage of material if you get into them.

This is really an awesome album. Doesn't seem like there's any duds on this. Just great songwriting all around.

It's like The Beatles / Dylan / Stones even some of it reminds me of Wilco mixed with of Montreal. It's awesome and yes crazy that this is the same band that's made the last 4 albums (not to hate on those at all either), but this is a nice change from what we have been getting.

And yes that new Bill Callahan record rules. First listen I felt a little underwhelmed besides a couple tracks with Javelin's Unlanding being the standout, but it's really opened up on multiple listens. I've only heard this and his past two albums. What else by him/Smog is worth checking out?
