Double requests:

1.) Modern, "finger picky" guitar. Ideally I'm looking for stuff in the folk/has vocals vein like Shakey Graves, but recently I've had the same itch scratched with James Blackshaw. I've already heard most of the goth-country scene and most of it doesn't do anything for me. I've also heard of the gods of fingerpicking like Fahey, Rose, et al.

Look into some early Devendra Banhart.

I'm sure you'll get the litany of usual suspects (Warrant, Poison, Motley Crue) but one band that I think gets criminally underlooked in the sorta glam metal genre is Dokken

There used to be a thread and it died, which is a shame because old-school psytrance and goa trance are kickass dance music.

Some artists I suggest:
Etnica (and the first 2 albums by their side project Pleiadians)
Filteria (I set so many mile PRs to their track Sky Input)
Cydonia
Chi A.D.
Dimension 5
Tandu
Transwave
Ra

Shpongle on the other hand... isn't quite upbeat enough to be good workout music.

Some of Secret Chiefs 3's music draws from Morricone, but they can be pretty avant-garde:

I've been really into this Japanese band called Midori for about a year now. I've tried finding similar artists but every English recommendation engine keeps bringing me some other Midori that is just some classical thing. I really would like to hear more music with a similar sound. It doesn't have to be Japanese either I just am really into whatever this style of music is, like jazzcore?

John Zorn does some jazz/grindcore albums but I honestly forget which. Naked City's s/t is the only one I recall at the moment. Not much other jazzcore I know of except this weird-rear end sludge/free improv album.

Midori are pretty unrivaled among the J-punk scene, but I can recommend Shinsei Kamattechan, Melt-Banana, and Wakusei Abnormal in addition to 385.

So Dream Theater's new album is, well, I wouldn't say it's great, but it's not bad. Two instrumentals is pretty cool, especially since one is an opener.

I think the 22-minute closing track probably could have been split into two or three sections, though. Nothing against long songs (I'm a prog fan, dammit), but there's enough dissonance between some of the sections that they're practically totally different songs jammed together in one track.

e: I recommend it.

Been rendering a fractal morph animation for the last month or so and need something to go along with it as audio. It's sort of like this, but made in a different program with different formulas and rendering settings so it takes an insane amount of time to go through all the computations. It's going to be shifting the Y value of this set of parameters from 0 to 13 to see all the changes in structure as it moves, and the way I set it up it just happened to come out at 52 seconds.

Looking for something similar to this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eynnYLXW3Fo
(which unfortunately there isn't a studio recording of that I could add to my music collection)

And not necessarily more Stevie Wonder, but kind of low-key instrumental jazz, I guess. I'm trying to avoid the busy and funky with-a-lot-of-post-production editing stuff I found while searching "Victor Wooten" on Last.fm. The Vision, Overjoy and Medley from his first solo album are pretty much exactly the type of thing I'm looking for.

Basically the closest I can get to having my own personal Vic Wooten and asking him to play the most beautiful and soul filled poo poo he could think of. Doesn't have to be just bass instrumentals, either.
