The Lorde album is terrific and a hype-matcher. It's still insane to me that those songs are being helmed by a 16-year-old.

Oi...I am a really big fan and defender of Congrats but after my first listen of this I thought it sounded like the album everyone accused them of making with Congrats, a purposefully obtuse album that's more concerned with shedding everything that came with their debut than making music. It just plain doesn't make any sense after Congrats. You already dropped the bomb you're supposed to lead the radioactive death cult that remains, not loving bomb them again.

There's plenty of moments and sounds that are interesting but everything past the 1/4th mark or so sounds like a piss take, songwise.

I just discovered Felix Hagan and the Family. I can't even think how to describe it. It's theatrical (and self-aware) and entertaining and catchy and you should listen to it.

You can listen to their upcoming EP (out on Sept. 27) in full here, but I'd highly recommend watching some of their videos on youtube to get the full experience:

Aw yiss Chvrches appreciation. I'll echo what everyone else said that they're great live, even if Lauren's accent is incomprehensible in a concert setting.

Their album actually left me a little cold, but there were still several good songs. Strong Hand is only on the deluxe version but its their best song.

Yeah...after giving it a few more listens I agree. It has a handful of tracks that are good (Alien Days, Introspection, Plenty of Girl in the Sea), but the rest of the album seems to melt into some ambient blob of background music for an acid trip. I still like A Good Sadness as the stand out of these tracks, but still after several listens I have to check the tracklist to figure out what song I'm listening to.

I also can barely stand listening to I Love You Too, Death. I just can't get into it, and it drags on and doesn't go anywhere for what feels like ten minutes.

I see what they are trying to do, and I don't dislike this album, but Congratulations was such a good loving album that it's disappointing this is a significant step down.

I think the song is pretty good, but agree with you on the mic thing. Definitely something weird going on there. I'm sure it will sound better on the album with proper mixing. Still groovy, though.

Yesss thank you Goldfrapp is the best.

Also, thanks to whoever posted the Blue Sky Archives, that's great.

To contribute, here are three bands that I feel like are worth listening to, and although they aren't super recent I don't remember seeing them in this thread.
First is an old song by ANR, Around You: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggbEX_cgfDQ. One of those slow building rock songs that is catchier than it deserves to be.
Bronze Radio Return sounds like a band I would have liked in middle school, but still like. Similar to Lady Danville : https://soundcloud.com/bronze-radio-return/03-shake-shake-shake-mp3-1 . This song in particular, from their 2011 album, is a good pick-me-up.
Finally, Savoir Adore has definitely been around for a while, but I liked their 2013 album a lot more than any of the ones before. This song in particular is really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qH4ryqWze6U

Apologies if these have been posted before (I think the Savoir Adore song might have been posted when it first came out, but I guess it's not the worst thing in the world if it goes up twice).

e: Also, holy poo poo I just listened to the new Of Montreal songs -- I know I'm late to the party, but I'm so happy with them. I wasn't sure if Of Montreal would ever sound like this again.
