Who else has listened to the new Yuck album? It's definitely different, smoother production along with a new lead vocalist of course, but I like it. Not as solidly good as their first album though.

New phantogram EP sounded like some leftovers from the recording session. Kinda bummed... it's forgettable. But I know they're going to bring it on the LP.

Caught a Local band, The Dead Ships, last Saturday that I dug a lot. Grabbed their bandcamp release which is very rough but the live energy was good. The songs that they are writing for the debut album were nicely polished giving that sounded like a bluesy-garage band many people like.

Portugal. The Man puts on a fantastic show every time I see them. I'm also a pretty big fan of Typhoon, but I haven't seen them live. I have to imagine a 10+-member band would be at least fun to see.

I've never seen Joy Formidable or Shouting Matches live, but I love both of their studio work.

I'm a huge fan of Yuck. I consider their first album one of my all time favorite pieces from any artist. It's just that good to me and is exactly what I look for in rock music. If anyone reading this thread hasn't heard of them definitely give them a check. Their new album though I have to say is pretty disappointing. I guess the best way I could say it is they traded their lo-fi, dreamy/high energy garage rock songs for production value and unimaginative lyrics. I just feel like Blumberg made that band and now that he's gone it's really just not the same. I should have spent that $170 to see them in Paris when Blumberg was still a part of the band. I'm kicking myself over it now.

Anyway, if you're a fan of Yuck's stuff, check out Blumberg's side project Hebronix. It's easy going rock and something about that man's voice gets me every time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6zpfgHTvTA

Here's some other stuff that I've been liking recently:

From Dr. Dog's new album B-Room - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUnpNq7U2Qk

From Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin's new album Fly By Wire - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnYDnhmIQh0 If you like this song please check out the actual album. Fly By Wire, Cover All Sides, Lucky Young, and Harrison Ford are all some great tracks, but the album overall is just great pop music.

From Pure Bathing Culture's (who the gently caress makes these names) new album Moon Tides - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbuWOtrWOqE

Beautiful track from Small Black's recently released Limits of Desire - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ0qz0Qc_D4

Whoever posted A Grave With No Name I loving love you for it. They're seriously amazing and I'm really loving their album Whirlpool. Also, King Krule loving owns. I was legitimately surprised to find out he was such a scrawny looking ginger kid. He's got a set of lungs that's for sure. Boarder Line is such a great track.

I started listening to Typhoon a couple months ago because I saw them on the upcoming shows calendar of my favorite venue and thought they looked interesting. Now White Lighter is my favorite album of the year so far. It kind of reminds me of Funeral, not that the band is aping Arcade Fire's sound, but the orchestration, group vocals and cathartic moments in the music give me similar vibes. They are also fantastic live. It was funny watching them squeeze all eleven members including two full drum sets onto a tiny stage.

I listened based on your recommendation and I'll agree. I love great instrumentation. The bits in Hunger and Thirst are just so good. I had those shivers the entire song. My train ride this morning blew by so fast :allears:

Let me tell you, I love piano, string and brass instruments for their sounds, and it's just great when a band can meld them all like in Hunger and Thirst. White Lighter competes with Wondrous Bughouse for my favorite album of the year.

Yes, they are rapidly becoming a favorite band. Eyelid movies felt a bit to long with a bit to much filler, but the ep after that was one of my favorite records of last year and this new one is also really really good.

I saw them (i use the word saw lightly as I was to far back to see much) at bonnaroo and all the tracks that felt kinda weak on album sounded much much better and I have a bit more appreciation for them (sixteen years gives me chills now). Pretty excited about a new tour and a smaller venue.

I agree with all these sentiments. I only liked a few songs off EM, Futuristic Casket being probably the most obvious, the majority of the other songs make for good background music, and ones like 10,000 Claps I think are awful. But the new EP seems much more consistently high quality.

Spencer Krug is putting out another Moonface album, titled "Julia With Blue Jeans On." It's supposedly only piano and vocals, which should be interesting. He's released one song, Everyone is Noah, Everyone is the Ark. If nothing else, he's keeping up his promise to make every Moonface album sound completely different from the others.

Unfortunately, the promo images for the album kind of look like the cover to a bad grunge album.

Pictured above: Spencer Krug's 90s Christian rock phase, apparently.

Searched the thread and I didn't see any mention of her, but today I discovered Lady Lamb the Beekeeper. She relies pretty heavily on her vocals and lyricism, which are both really, really good. It's like she infuses country inspired lyrics with indie rock instrumentals. Her album, Ripely Pine, is pretty long but I feel that it doesn't have much filler to it, if any at all.
