Red car's wheel gap is because there's no engine in there, or transmission, or exhaust, or radiator. Gold car's wheel gap is because it's a Mustang. clutchpuck fucked around with this message at 22:54 on Oct 15, 2013 |

A few weeks ago an old friend from high school called me to tell me about a 'strange' car they got in on trade that I might be interested in. Yesterday I flew to MN for the Chump Car Road America race an old Porsche. There are some issues though... The gearbox is a bit screwy The gas cap is massive The engine has too many cylinders, is the wrong configuration, liquid cooled and is in the wrong place The headlights kind of work The center console looks good, the clock is the only working thing in this photo The car...1980 Porsche 928 NitroSpazzz fucked around with this message at 01:45 on Oct 18, 2013 |

Especially in that color, which I've always loved (and wouldn't mind having had mine in instead of Granada Red) Which 5 speed swap are you doing? e21? And what brake kit did you go with? Mine came with (I think) an e21 5 speed and the aardvark rear disc kit, which if I remember correctly sources rear discs from a golf or something.

O=00=O Yeah, I'm using a Getrag 245 pulled from a junkyard e21 320i. The rear brakes are a junkyard "kit" consisting of MKIV VW rear calipers, MK2/3 carriers and hardware and some brackets that I ordered from Ireland Engineering which are part of a kit. I think the rotors are MKI Rabbit front rotors. When it's running, it runs MegaSquirt II with a 318i intake manifold and some parts sourced from around the internet (02again, diyautotune). The wheels are new (to me) and required to fit the new rear brakes but I need some tires because they are totally shot. Future plans are to just get the thing driving again (requires driveshaft + a whole lot more stuff for the 5 speed swap) and then revise my ghetto-diy throttle linkage and wiring. Eventually I'll take it to a body shop and have the minor rust straightened out and maybe get a respray before I put the interior in. Rust and paint aren't really a high priority, being in California, but I want it to look nice at some point.

meatpotato posted:2002 pride! O=00=O Interesting, do you have more details on the megasquirt & intake manifold combo? Maybe an 02faq thread of note? Why did you decide to go in that direction instead of side drafts? Do you plan to eventually turbo it or something? I bought mine mostly mechanically sorted, but it's seen minimal maintenance and plenty of driving for the past five years by the previous owner, so it needs a solid going over on the interior and exterior. I'm also debating caging it... I don't know. And it definitely needs paint, which I may try myself as I bet I can manage at least a 2-3' job.

No turbo plans, but I won't eliminate the possibility. I did it for the technical challenge and thought it would be more reliable and efficient than carbs. My conversion was pretty standard as far as cheap 2002 MegaSquirt conversions go and was pretty close to this one: http://www.zeebuck.com/bimmers/tech/Megasquirt/megasquirt.html The main differences are I used MSII, EDIS for spark, a nicer missing tooth gear from a Ford Escort and a 325i throttle body.
