I moved out of the city and joined a 2% Van club. Oh gently caress, what did I get myself into now? My 1976 Chevy G20 (LWB, 5.7l V8, TH350), original engine. Just had the transmission rebuilt. Just shined the front end up, waxing half done, fender flares and chin spoiler to be added soon. Looking for a windshield visor and some cragar wheels. According to the service book it once had dual side exhaust. It'll have that again if I've got anything to do with it. The previous two owners are loving divine human beings. I have every single thing logged that has ever happened to this van. Has 4 rotating captains chairs and a table built in between then. Reupholstering next year (seats, shag, folding couch bed). Has power throughout, ready for a new stereo! And my 1983 Yamaha xs650 that is too low for its own good. Pipes going flat after a few years of bottoming out and throwing sparks. Going to have to swap for some tracker style pipes soon. Nerolus fucked around with this message at 05:05 on Oct 29, 2013 |

If you don't ride drunk (or high I guess) and actually take a safety course before you start riding, you're at about 8% higher accident risk than in a car. So what I'm saying is, start trawling CL for bikes!

iv46vi posted:Any pics of the inside? How much do these vans cost ? I haven't taken any pics of the inside yet. The table and chairs, insulated wooden interior and the current rotten old toxic green shag are the only thing cool things about it. It is currently housing the canoe rack that used to be on top and a pair of snow tires that will be on soon. Maybe I'll snap a few tomorrow. My van was $850, about 1.5 hours away and I drove it home with the transmission slipping every once in a while (gently caress yeah, cruise control in a '76!). The transmission rebuild cost me $500 via a one legged vet I found on craigslist. In decent shape, $1500-$3500. I'd just buy on the low end of decent and move up from there personally. I bought it for a fun hobby and something great to go camping in do some goofy oldschool 70's customizing to. I personally recommend the 70's Chevy's over the dodge and fords because of the ease of finding parts. A whole lot of interchangeability with the Chevy/GMC's of that same time period unlike the Dodges and the Fords. The engine is SUPER easy to work on. The 350 engine and TH350 transmission are very very common and you can still easily find parts for them. I'm a novice and not having too hard of a time fixing it back up. My truck, got totalled out in february of 2011, bought a (supposedly) rust free cab from wisconsin for $300 that ended up being pretty rough so welded 2/3rds of the cab to my existing 1/3rd and gained a sun roof as well as doing the bedside... It was insured and registered to december 2013. Apart from the inital sale/registration, and most recent registration, the only carfax entry is a steering/suspension inspection at a brake shop 2 years/15,000kms ago. The alternator looks brand new, and one battery is marked oct/12. The oil is fresh and synthetic, the trans fluid doesn't smell burnt. It has 4 wheel disks but i think the front rotors are warped. The truck has an hour meter installed and it's at 5500 hours. I can't figure out why this was sold as a non-runner. Now to decide what the engine is going to go into....

Picked up a new 2014 Mazda3 S Grand Touring hatch yesterday. Really happy with it so far. The pop up heads up display is pretty awesome. Had to wait a few days to get it because apparently most of the dealers have one of the S GT in stock and they're almost always red which was the bottom color on my list. Planning to black out most of the car, minus the tailights (I got pulled over for doing a light tint on my Acura a few years ago). Going to powdercoat the rims, paint the chrome badges and tint the windows (that's mostly for the drat FL sun than anything and needs to happen ASAP). I'll probably leave the chrome trim on the grill, I actually like that.

Today I traded out our 165k mile TSX for a brand new thing. Seems pretty good so far. Clutch and shifter are slightly heavier than the TSX but not burdensome. Good dash layout, with nice big analog tach under the huge digital speedo readout, and a nice sized screen off to the side for fuel economy/music/rearview camera (who knew?). Good seats, handles nicely. A bit too quiet, so exhaust and intake will come soon.
