Maybe stick a sigil for chilling on my staff and cripple on axe/scepter to make it a little easier to plant wells.

For not dying, I'd actually recommend zerker gear on ele over anything with toughness. Toughness, for some reason, makes mobs hate you and target you first. You're better off being more fragile, but less likely to be targeted.

As Word Eater saw yesterday in the tower when we were duoing it, I was basically invincible, we would have wiped repeatedly and had to restart at the bottom. I couldn't have pulled that poo poo with zerker gear. You guys laugh at soldier gear but the survivability it gives you is insane.

Post from Devon Carter today regarding WXP: I’m going to lock this post for 2 reasons. 1) This topic has been discussed ad infinitum and we have given our reasons for the system as it currently exists. 2) There will be more information about changes to the Wxp system in the next few weeks. We appreciate the passion you all have for WvW and GW2 and we are doing what we can to align the systems in the game with our core philosophy. We completely agree that there is an inherent lack of alt-friendliness with the system as it is currently set up, which is why we are working on making changes to it. As we have more information to announce about those changes, we will share it with you all. Tl;dr: We are working on making the Wxp system more alt-friendly and we will have more to share in the coming weeks.

Godddammit Anet just make WvW ranks account-wide. It's not loving rocket science. Make ranks take longer to get or something.

The wallet was one of the best things they ever did and they should implement similar ideas everywhere. If they made the infinite use gathering tools not just account-wide but also automatically available to every character, they'd be no-brainer purchases for a ton of people.

With my playstyle you'd miss a lot of ice procs. I dropped bomb kit, so I'm never in the poo poo if I don't want to be (often). For icing people all up in my poo poo, the aoe chill on heal/ice nades have me covered. But I guess it just depends on how you roll. As a note, I wouldn't use it for WvW. Perplexity is the obvious hoice there, but unavailable in spvp.

So I just got the game this week on sale, any tips for starting out? How's crafting like? Mandatory for getting decent gear or can you just buy what you need? And I understand most of the gear grinding is for cosmetics and not for getting stats?

Really, crafting is just a way of turning gold / materials into exp and perhaps an occasional bit of convenience. Aside from that, get into one of the goon guilds for company and don't worry about spending skill points or trait points: you'll get more skill points than you'll ever know what to do with and trait points are a trivial cost to reset (scaling with level until 80, where it's a mere 3.5 silver).

I've bought the pick and sickle now, but it's the new ones so they look stupid. But I don't really care, I just wanted the infinite use. I used gold to buy gems for them, so they're ridiculously overpriced and I'll have to use each one a few billion times to break even. They need to release another infinite axe already. I thought they were doing some Halloween theme so I figured they'd have an axe out before the end of last month, but that sure didn't happen.

And I understand most of the gear grinding is for cosmetics and not for getting stats? Crafting is a lovely way of turning money into Exp/Just stuff for Legendary weapons nowadays. They cost way too much to level to and are not really worth it. With Ascended gear it's a little of a grind to get ~The Best Possible Stats~ but that's entirely optional unless you want to do high level Fractals. If you ever want to upgrade your gear while leveling your best bets to just look on the Trading Post for whatever green/yellow your level is cheap.

bamhand posted:So what's the end game PvE like? The only MMO I've played is WoW like 5 years ago and that was all about killing dragons to get loot. There is no end-game PvE really... no raids at least. Most people at 80 do daily runs of some of the dungeons, play WvW, do world events (killing dragons being one of them) or run around in circles in Lion's Arch all day. Endgame gear in this game is mostly purchased or crafted with the stats you want, then transmuted to whatever skin you want. So while you will get loot from killing stuff and doing world events, it's mostly just to salvage or sell so you can save towards what you really want to buy. weinus fucked around with this message at 21:16 on Nov 15, 2013 |

I meant does that get you loot? Cosmetics? What's the incentive (other than being fun obviously) for playing when you hit the level cap. Like WoW was very clearly based on constantly upgrading your gear with tier after tier of dungeons and armor sets. Does GW require the same amount of grinding to get the high end stuff? Or do you just level up a bunch of alts and do battlegrounds? I hear both the PvP and single player content is really good.

Cosmetics mostly, the end game is making the perfect outfit to show how anime you are, it's more addicting than it sounds. The spvp is awesome because the gear is normalized with a whole bunch of options and you are auto leveled to 80 with all your class abilities so you can pvp on any class after doing the tutorial level.

Because gossamer was already over 4s when i started and ori 5-6s, if leather goes to 5s gossamer would have to go to 20s to match the profit and ori to 25-30s. I imagine leather might go up to somewhere around 8-10s, at least during the first day, and there is no way the profit from gossamer, ori, or quartz crystals can match that.

Just run around, see new places, and never be afraid to leave one zone to go to another. If you find one section of the game boring try something else. Don't worry about gear there is not that much of a difference between quality levels. If you have too just grab blues off the trade post every 5 levels but never be afraid to spend karma NEVER GRIND.

For anyone trying to go to the SFD forums linked in the OP who doesn't follow our other avenues of communication, our site is currently totally down because Swiss Knight sold it to a hobo last night for a spot in line at the PS4 launch. We're not able to reach him currently because he's literally inside his PS4 with a large cache of soda water, so please use our IRC (#sfdental on irc.synirc.net) and keep up with our SA thread for announcements. Sorry!

The best thing about hitting the level cap is you finally have access to all your traits, and gear that doesn't feel like a waste to buy. You can also now go anywhere in the game without worrying about being too low of a level, although some areas are still bullshit at 80 (Orr).

Does anyone remember the goon who made such classic Guild Wars 2 comedy videos such as the extreme Stag action 360 noscope and the one using the dialogue from a porn clip where they stick their balls into someone's vagina? I can't find him on Youtube, so I thought he might have had his account terminated or something.

And I understand most of the gear grinding is for cosmetics and not for getting stats? Here's a little tip that every new person should be told. Say you're out in the open world having adventures and killing stuff but you realize you need a merchant or your bank, and neither one is close. Press B, this brings up the WvW menu. Select your home server and enter, as long as there's no queue you will get in right away. You are now in WvW, in your home world's Citadel, which is 100% safe from the enemy. Here you will find merchants and crafting stations, which give you access to your bank. Take care of whatever you need. Once you are ready to go back, press F12 and select Log Out. This takes you to the character select screen, so pick your character again and hit Play. You will reappear back in the open world exactly where you left off. The point of all this is, you can have immediate access to your bank or a merchant at any time in the open world. Just don't do this with any loot bags laying around on the ground or you will lose them.
