I'm guessing that that happened because the owner has been running tap water in the radiator and rust has eaten a pathway between the coolant and ATF. More fail than meets the eye.

I remember those bastards from my '84 240. It would blow fuses all the time thanks to the PO trying to redo most of the dash wiring due to a fire he caused installing a stereo wrong. So I just got really good at changing them while driving while I slowly fixed all the stupidity.

Although watching propane tanks jet around is undeniably awesome, I refer you to the 3:50 mark, where one of them attempts to make orbit and is still going up as it exits the frame. Who knows where it came down? Also I would not want to be around for any splinters to come whizzing by. The cameraman was especially crazy in not only staying too close but keeping his torso above the barrier. That guy in the VW had the right idea, he was just a bit slow to realize he needed to

I'd be sitting with my back to the barrier waiting for it to be over. Admittedly, I'd risk my hand by holding my cellphone over my head above the wall for video, but that's it. Russians be crazy.

Is this enough for a core charge, guys? this is the starter from the LQ9/SM465/one ton axled Jeep J10 on 40" tires I posted that had a flywheel explode. Flywheel went through the bellhousing, starter, exhaust, and half the frame. Part of it embedded itself in the pavement, the other parts took out the input shaft of the transmission, chunks of the engine block, the fuel lines, part of the wiring harness, a large section of the firewall, and destroyed the DBW throttle pedal while my friend was standing on it with only tennis shoes on. He walked away. He's buying a blowproof bellhousing for the rebuild... and a lottery ticket... and a flywheel that isn't a piece of poo poo.

1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. "Something's banging in the rear and it feels loose." Both the struts and mounts were recently replaced and besides needing isolator pads on the ends of the leaf spring, something with the right rear trailing arm looked a little off: What's going on with this control arm bracket? Oh. At least 12-14" of that unibody rail section is almost completely rotted away where the arm is supposed to attach and the rest isn't far behind. I'm not even sure I want to attempt to repair that. Root Bear fucked around with this message at 22:12 on Nov 17, 2013 |

Yeah, no, that unibody is totaled. A 1992 Olds Cutlass hunk of poo poo is NOT worth enough to consider uniframe rebuilding/welding/repair. Tell em to scrap the loving thing and buy another $400 beater.

If that is what happened, the same thing would likely happen to a spin-on filter made from the same materials. Given the attitude of the owner, I would either guess the filter is a cheap low end brand or that the owner drove an absolute poo poo ton of miles in the time that it had last been changed.

Went 8 months/8500 miles; filter was disgusting, but it was very much in one piece. Like torpedan said, either a cheap filter (which is likely if it was done by most lube shops) and/or an absolute shitload of miles. Stuff like that is why I try to stick to name brands that don't start with "Fram".
