Although last time Less Than Jake played at Soundwave there was some drama where they didn't want to be the opening act or something so just didn't turn up. Eh, not so nice.

Skankin Pickle - Green Album (Skankin Pickle Fever is good too) , The Chinkees - Peace Through Music.

My favorite thing about the warped tour in the late 90's was going and saying hi to Mike and him being shocked that anyone knew who he was. He even signed my Asian Man hoodie.

Nope, but I'll be ordering the new 7". They have it streaming here. They're playing ska again. Too bad they aren't touring.

It's amazing what they can do with computers these days.

For anyone in the Chicago area that hasn't heard about this, Jump Up Records has managed to get a bunch of bands to do a one-off reunion show on January 3rd.

https://www.facebook.com/events/188428171343818/

Hot Stove Jimmy
Green House
The Eclectics
Heavy Manners
Skapone
The Exceptions

Most, if not all, of these bands are Chicago based, and I don't think they're playing any other shows. Only $15 or so after fees.

Could someone direct me to some good Australian ska? It's much more likely that I'll be able to see one of them instead of waiting for someone to tour maybe once a year.

EDIT: Also don't suggest that I just see Less than Jake at Soundwave because I really don't want to spend nearly 200 bucks to just see a handful of bands.

I'm not aware of any Arabic bands, but how about Turkish? There's Athena. I only have one of their albums, Pis, and it's, well, very different. This track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uURcPFjODyU) is close to something you might hear in the US, but a lot of the album is very Turkish sounding, for lack of better phrasing. Also, thanks to their wikipedia article, I just found out they're a pretty big deal in Turkey. Competed in Eurovision and everything. And I only downloaded it because I saw the phrase Turkish ska.

Snagged myself a preorder too, even though I don't have a record player and shipping is ~$20 to NZ. It's pretty much a perfect EP in my book though so I'm excited to hear it mixed a bit better.

My band's first record is finally out! It's ska as all gently caress!

You can listen to it for FREE here: https://skashank.bandcamp.com/album/to-victory

Please, please listen. It'll take only 15 minutes of your time. If you like it, you can buy the record here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/theskashankredemption (or, if you prefer, on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, etc.). It's also on Spotify, so if you want to listen to it there I think we get a penny for every 90,000 plays or something.

Thanks for putting up with this shameless self-promotion!

VVVVV Edit: I don't recall why we aren't selling it on Bandcamp at the moment, but I'll look into it and see if we can't update that.

Is it available for purchase anywhere as not-vinyl? I don't have or want a turntable, and I know it comes with a download code too, but I'd rather not take a limited pressing away from someone who will use and enjoy it.

I am not sure how I felt about the album, it's sound was kind of reminiscent to Reel Big Fish, at least to me. I like the sound, but I was not too keen on the lead singer's voice. Welder by day was definitely my favorite track. I will listen to it more, but those are just my initial thoughts.

I waited almost a week to order mine, and I got #40 out of 500, so I don't think it's going to sell out anytime soon.

For what it's worth, I didn't have a turntable when I ordered the Jeff Rosenstock Summer 7", and that's actually what got me started collecting records. (Though that one did actually sell out and people have offered to buy it off me.) They're neat!

I'm definitely getting the Reel Big Fish vibe through out the album too, which is not a bad thing. The intro to "Welder By Day" is extremely close to "Suburban Rhythm."

I'm also in agreement about the vocals. It's not that the singer's voice is bad or even clashes with music, but he needs more intonation and to develop the bounce that is usually found in ska music.
