I just finished the most recent season of HIMYM on Netflix and what the gently caress. The shows arcs are still good, like the episode where Barney and Robin get engaged was breathtaking but they just keep finding dumb and lovely ways to drag the show on. I've said it before but if this show was half it's total length it might be my favorite sitcom of all time, it's a great example of how fluff can just gently caress with your show.

Oh, thanks, I would've forgotten about Treme (did last season and had to catch up). Thankfully, even if this season (?) is somehow bad they already had a series finale!

Really? Because I thought that whole thing was extremely weird and creepy, even if it was totally in character for him. Doubly so that the show treated that as a totally normal and acceptable thing to do.

It blows my mind that it's almost 20goddamn14 and there are still country-specific restrictions on videos on the internet. I know it's an issue on some sites for people outside the US as well and I have no idea how it makes any sense whatsoever to copyright something to only be viewable from one country. Isn't the point of putting something on the internet to get it out to as many people as possible?

It's easy to find all over the internet if you search for it. He lost a lot of weight since the last time I saw him.

He did a pretty frustrating interview related to the show where he tried to convince some old guy that video games are good.

I feel like Brooker gets too worked up in this. He starts yelling and repeating himself while Jon Snow disagrees with him, but is quite reasonable. I think Snow is wrong, but Brooker doesn't effectively debate him, he just insists superciliously that he doesn't understand how things are.

e: it gets a bit much on both sides with Snow insisting that women don't play games and Brooker insisting that Lego Marvel Superheroes is 'unisex' in terms of its representation.

Yeah, I don't understand the desire some people have to force video games and video game culture on the world. Video games, like any hobby, are ultimately pointless diversions we use to pass the time until our inevitable deaths. It doesn't matter if they're "art" or murder-porn for teenagers, its all ultimately pointless.

Nerds need to stop worrying what other people think and just live their loving lives.

I know I'm taking the bait, but the reason why nerds and other people try to force video games on people is because when you have 'scholars' saying that video games are pointless drivel*, or blood and gore covered cotton candy, you're obviously going to receive push back. The most common attack is going to be that paintings and movies were also put through this level of hate, which is rebutted with the whole "but vidya games are interactive and that ruins the art and yadda yadda". This just starts a whole spiral into lovely oblivion of everyone yelling at each other because even though art is subjective, if you don't like what I like and vice-versa, you can go gently caress yourself.

British television (at least some of it) is supported by tax money (and commercial free), so if you're not paying British taxes you really don't deserve free access to their TV programming. That said, it always ends up on YouTube so just watch it there.

There are still scholars who say television isn't art, pop-art isn't art, cartoons aren't art, there will always be people saying x or y isn't art, and they are always the ones who are wrong. Not every member of a category is good art, mind you, but just about everything is art, and if you can't see that, you're a blowhard, and your opinion is invalid.

Edit: That is the figurative "you," not a personal attack.

Don't get me wrong, they didn't undo the central conceit of the show, but they're focusing a lot less on the nitty gritty details of it and just embracing that it's sci-fi bullshit.

Nah, the point is to make more money. If people in any country could watch the show on the Internet, then I suppose the rights to air a show on foreign networks and streaming sites would be worth a lot less. So I guess the producers figure that they make more money selling those rights than they would make on Internet ad revenue from foreign viewers.

This is Channel 4 though and unless something's changed, AFAIK the license fee only covers the BBC, C4 gets its revenue through advert breaks. So C4 region locking it is a bit pointless, yeah.
