I had a massive image dump ready then we lost power for ~10 seconds and for once I'm on the desktop instead of the laptop. So instead you get this, the 1974 McLaren M16C.

Look up some V8 RX7s running huge turbos piped straight to the intake runners using Ethanol. Methanol and NOS have the same effect of making an intercooler less useful than the weight/piping required.

With ethanol (~8:1 afr) an intercooler is still a good idea. Methanol (~4:1 afr) it is mostly optional. Also, there could be an AWIC built into the manifold. That line coming off doesn't look like your standard boost reference. That suspension design and trailing links are really old school.

Video! It never fell into the crevasse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XASJLKoYyk0 I don't know why it's not starting at 7:45 but that's where the action starts. You can see the crash and recovery. Here are some pictures of it. http://www.gwim2.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/743cstat.htm I wound up watching the whole documentary which was pretty interesting. http://www.coolantarctica.com/antarctica_video/antarctic_video_commonwealth_trans_antarctic_expedition.htm (all five youtube videos are on this page). dr cum patrol esq fucked around with this message at 15:38 on Dec 20, 2013 |

What you're looking at is the end-game era for a DOHC four-cylinder that was originally used in 1934. This is also the boost-limited version, since they changed the rules for '74 to limit boost to 80 inches of mercury (just under 40 psi). God bless the Offenhauser.

It's a way to capture and show a high dynamic range. We used to do this poo poo with graduated filters and compositing multiple photos a long time before HDR became a "thing." I used it extensively for shots of lighthouses in North Carolina (sunset, interesting poo poo is to the west, need at least 2 exposures to get everything to look "right", as in the way you see it with your eyes - which have a much larger range than Fuji Velvia).
