Those are both solid. The 3100 is where they start improving from the baseline. I'd check both. Some folks can't do maple fretboards for some reason. The lack of fret markers on the purple one may or may not be a hassle for a novice.

I personally love maple fretboard guitars, although the back of the neck should really be satin, but the cherry burst looks better than the purple. Tough choice but I'm sure both would be decent to try.

So I saw my uncle play last night. He is the quintessential bluesdad, except he is really goddamn good. He has been playing for ~40 years or so. He taught me a lot when I started. Here is what blew my mind though: He recently sold all his gear(strats on strats, bunch of amps, pedals, etc, a huge bluesdad collection), and was playing with just a stock Squire tele with a humbucker in the bridge/Single in the neck, to a Joyo tube screamer clone, into a solid state fender amp. Tone for days. Like face melting tone. It really is all in your fingers, kids. Dirt fucked around with this message at 20:56 on Dec 21, 2013 |

Picked up one the Ultra Comfort Levys straps locally for about $5 more than what they go for on ebay. Makes the Agile so much more manageable with that padding and little bit of stretch. Also, the stock pickups don't sound terrible through the Crate V32.

Electronic and guitarless music is increasingly en vogue so sampling and resampling your own playing in order to make it sound more artificial or processed is a natural extension of/reaction to popular trends. I'm surprised more guitarists don't experiment with feedback/noise, though.
