No one wants cyclists on the sidewalks either because they might run into pedestrians. Some towns even have ordinances against it. I guess they're just supposed to throw their bikes in the trash because no matter what they do everyone hates their guts.

Roads are a public resource, cyclists have the exact same privileges to use it as people in cars.

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of idiot cyclists out there. In roughly the same ratio that there's idiots in cars. :v:

I don't know if they have bike trails where you live, but here in FL there's several bike paths specifically for people to bike on, located next to the road, and separated by a strip of grass or whatever. Usually their built along old rail lines. But the thing is half the time you'll still see a bunch of spandex wearing racers still using the main roads, right next to the paths, for God knows what reason. Usually they say it's because they ride too fast and worry about running into other riders or some B.S.

Don't get me wrong here, I ride my bike on the roads/trails, and I'm all for people commuting by bike, but some cyclists just seem to have no common sense/sense of self-preservation.

Also, yeah, it's nice that they have their little races, but it's not going to kill them to pull their train over for a minute or two to let the traffic pileup behind them pass.

e.: Also gently caress cyclists who run stop signs/red lights. It's always a fun guessing game when you see a cyclist coming up and you've got the green.

There is a magical jump on the bike path near the Wal-Mart to hop from the far right gutter to the center of the right two lanes on a four-laner which is perpetually busy. Of course this means that the bicyclist who is actually obeying these directives would dart across a whole lane of traffic to get out of the way of the low price mouthbreathers and trying to avoid the single lane going forward beyond the intersection.

I'd want to just sit there and record watch the near-misses, but being the normal bicyclists, they just ride on the sidewalk and scowl at the people walking on it, sometimes forcing THEM to step into the gutters. :v:

I get to see them get punted off the highway every once in awhile. Riding on a shoulderless highway with snowbirds ends up killing two birds with one stone. NHP writes the bicyclists tickets too.

More or less, this

I may legally be able to ride a scooter on the roads, but if I got 200 buddies and blocked the road with guys on stretched Ruckuses doing half the speed limit over most of a football field, the nightly news would have calls for lynchings. Bicycling may have different social acceptance but the risks and disruption of traffic are fundamentally the same, and running in a group significantly longer than a carlength or two is just being a pile of jerks.

On the other hand, I'd like to bike to work but the shoulders are full of sand and glass and people will punt you into the weeds if it lets them get 0.5 MPH faster.

To be fair truckers are doing something useful like delivering food or something whereas cyclists are just making congested roads even more congested by loving up the flow of traffic.

Its one thing to be in a group of 3 or 4 riding 2 abreast (which is legal here) doing 70kph below the posted limit so you can just go past them in half a second. Its the 100 strong groups riding 4 abreast imagining that they are in the tour de france as a 200m long peleton that are a loving menace to themselves and others. Thats an undulating road with blind corners and has semi trailers hoofing along it at 100kph. Can you imagine how many of them will be paste on the highway if a truck springs over a rise onto the back of them?

Shitloads of people who were obeying the letter of the law whilst riding have wound up in a morgue because the laws of physics have pushed their poo poo in with a truck or a car.

As a man of refined gait and balance, I find that riding a unicycle is not only proper, but brings the entire concept of self-propelled travel to the masses. Not the unwashed, mind, but the properly refined who are more than capable of holding their heads (and spines) high. Those who do not agree are obviously unlearned, unwashed, and likely to have the plague.

Try a K&N nose bag to improve breathing, and make sure you use a wideband veterinarian for the initial tune. Some people recommend porting the wastegate, but it's a messy job, and only seems to give good results for Welsh or Kiwi ovine specialists anyway.

At least they have good traction with four limb drive, and grippy hooves. I mean, some people will say something sticks like glue, but there's no substitute for the genuine article.

One of the things that bugs me most is slow drivers refusing to pull over and let faster traffic by. What I mean by this is when you wind up with a motorhome at the front of a 20+ car line doing 20 under the speed limit because the road is twisty & hilly and they don't know how to drive. Typically these roads have no passing zones, or if they do, they're short enough that one car can get by if they're lucky. These roads usually have spots for slower drivers to pull over, but no one uses them. I hate drivers like these just as much as I hate cyclists who are riding in such a way that it prevents passing. It may not be illegal to do what they're doing but grow the gently caress up and have a bit of common courtesy for the others on the road with you.

Some states have laws making this illegal.. if the line behind you gets over five cars, you're required to pull over so they can pass.

Last time I was driving in southern Florida an old person crossed the median on I-75 and drove right by me as everyone swerved out of the way. They all returned to their lanes pretty calmly, if that gives you any idea how normal it is. A few years back on the same stretch of highway a family friend in his 90's cruised the wrong side Fight Club-style until he wrapped his Cadillac around a paper tree.

Basically I'm saying I'd like a class action lawsuit against the AARP and then I'd use the money to pay for DMV tests for everyone past retirement age.

Neighbors buy their kid a Mustang for turning 16. He gets his license (somehow) and proceeds to launch from stop signs, speed through the neighborhood, drives around at 5000 rpm when he's not speeding. Two weeks after getting his license, he crashes and totals it on a 25 mph neighborhood road.

These roads usually have spots for slower drivers to pull over, but no one uses them.

I got super lucky last summer when about 30 of us got stuck behind a guy doing this for nearly an hour. He was doing 40 in a 55 and passed numerous slow vehicle turnouts, with traffic thick enough the other way that there was no opportunity to pass at all. People were loving pissed. When we finally got out of the hills to a passing lane, all 20 drivers took off like rabid dogs. I was 3rd in line, so I floored it and the passing traffic got up to about 90 mph. The second I was past the slow driver I got back over and let off the gas to let angrier drivers pass me, and it saved my rear end because there were three motorcycle troopers set up with a speed trap on that passing lane. So the 2 cars in front of me and the car behind me got pulled over, while I looked innocent over in the right lane. I drove away, and the entire line of remaining cars got stuck behind the same loving motorhome again due to the cops. I felt bad for those other speeders but was very glad to not have an out of state ticket in my dad's car.
