I'd have to rewatch it, it's easy to trick netflix into thinking I'm in canada so I'm doing that now!

As much as they're hyped up Contemporary American Poultry and Modern Warfare are really, really great episodes. I know the latter started the retarded 'MORE PAINTBALL EPISODES' craze but in a vacuum it's pretty loving fantastic.

VPNs are a pain for doing that, use a DNS replacement service like Unblock US (you just go on their website and change your Netflix region there). No tunnelling traffic through 3rd party servers then.

Season One Pierce was awesome, after that though it was all downhill. Season Two could've been good for him if they had either made him a full villain and got rid of him or redeemed him and returned him to the Season One character but leaving him as a sort of half antagonist was rubbish.

It's great for the same reason Modern Warfare is great with the deft action movie references. It's a pretty pitch perfect amalgamation of gangster movies.

I have high hopes for season 5. I think it bodes well that the cast seem to be excited about this season too.

Also if we're going to talk about S1 great episodes, then it's:

1) Contemporary American Poultry
2)Pys Ed
3) Modern Warfare

Although anyone reading who hasn't seen season one should realize that this is just an argument about which episodes are the best in a season filled with great episodes.

Grimey Drawer
I was wary about season 5 originally - especially with the ridiculous amount of guest stars - but I've found almost everything in the trailers funny so I'm actually beginning to get quite pumped.

Also, this thread will always suck because there are always going to be a few people who can't handle that other people have different opinions or who are incapable of figuring out that if somebody posts their opinion they're not automatically claiming it's fact. Even the fuckin' OP is like "well this is the CORRECT opinion about this and then this is some other thing some idiots might think but yeah anyway whatever"

Yeah I really don't blame Chevy Chase for getting pissed off with the way they were handling his character. He was 100% right that it would eventually just lead to him having a whole episode yelling out the N word.

I think the worst thing for Pierce was that he started off as a strong Dan Harmon analogue, he literally draws a story circle in the second episode, but then all that attention shifted to Abed, leaving him without much of a character. So rather than being the Dan Harmon type who has crazy ideas, alienates people through insensitive comments, and then redeems himself through a brutal honesty and passion, he became racist and old, literally the only character traits the writers seemed to draw on when required to make a joke. I remember viewing the first episode of season 2, and seeing how they introduced Pierce again and thinking to myself "oh, pierce is just old jokes now".

I think this was largely due to Chase himself though. I mean pretty much everyone said the character was literally just the actor at certain points.

I would really like it if he came back for one scene just to give us a bit of closure. Killing him off off-screen is a little...Much. At the end of the day, even when underwritten and even with all the problems Chevy Chase brought - he was part of the show we all loved. Season 2 needed that villain.

I think they might've been referring to the fact that Chase is old and grumpy and sometimes confused and not particularly patient and basically an aloof dude because he's Chevy Chase.

"Pierce just assumed that Troy and Shirley are related" is funnier than "Pierce has Mexican stereotype finger puppets", or "Pierce just innocently tried to entertain a black family with a song and dance while wearing black-face". The first one falls within the realm of reality for an obtuse old white guy who grew up in a racist family, the latter are just examples of lazy writing. Adam Sandler-esque LOL FARTS level of laziness.

I really wish they could've gotten Chase back for this upcoming season (no idea if this happens or not- avoiding casting stuff), even if just for an episode or two. Having him on full-time again wouldn't really be necessary as Pierce hasn't been crucial to the study group's dynamic after the amazing arc in season two ended with his redemption.

Re: Chevy Chase. If the rumours are true and his story involves his death, I really hope towards the end of the season he makes a really brief cameo or something to annul this. Seriously, even if it's just his voice and he phones Jeff to ask him how things are since he moved to Hawaii. "Pierce, you didn't tell us you were moving!" "Oh, I didn't? Well... I have!"

Why would that happen? Dan Harmon hates Chevy. I don't expect we'll see anything more of him than still photos or old footage. Not to mention that gag's already been pulled with Starburns.

CONTEXT: If you did not know- the creator/showrunner (Dan Harmon) was fired after Season 3.

There's approximately 3 or 4 episodes on par with the more average episodes of seasons 1-3 and the rest comes off as fan fiction. It just tries a little too hard. It's more sad than anything.

Thankfully the finale is no longer the series finale-- and in an UNPRECEDENTED MOVE Dan Harmon was rehired and back for season 5.

Can I just remind everyone how great the season 2 Christmas special was? I know it's divisive, but you can't tell me that final song isn't the ultimate beautiful description of modern Christmas. (Down to the self-destructing pterodactyl)

And season 3 gave us Christmas infiltration, which was also amazing. Hell, season 1's Christmas ep gave us the aforementioned Forrest Whittaker eye. And a Christmas melee to a Florence and the Machine song.

I'd really like it if the thread title could just celebrate the fact the dude who gave us all that is coming back and that we're all hopeful (and bracing for disappointment!). After all, t'is still the season where the longest, coldest, darkest nights can be the warmest and brightest. :unsmith:
