The racing is consistently ridiculously good, because even when it looks like the race is academic, poo poo can happen, and does happen. Plus, it is easy to find all the races, motos (and semis!) and mains, on YouTube within hours, and you can likely find a livestream on Justin.tv.

Having gone to my first SX last weekend I will say that, like a NASCAR race or an NFL game, the experience is overpriced though still a good one. Especially now that FS1 is carrying all the races live, there's really no reason to see one in person when you can just sit back and catch it on the computer TV.

I was considering making a thread for the season in Cycle Asylum (that's where the other bike racing thread is), but if there's enough of a draw I can put it in SAS. Last season and this season should be good since the guys who should be running away with everything keep crashing.

Hey BTCC goons, is there anywhere on YouTube where you can find the condensed one hour telecasts of each round as used to air on Speed in the US? There are several hour-long videos of each individual race on there now, but what I'm looking for is sort of a highlight reel with commentary and all three races crammed into an hour.

Most of the races on youtube are padded heavily by interviews, the actual racing is much shorter. Sometimes the races don't start until 30-40 minutes into the video.

Rider Eric Palante found dead on Dakar Rally

Belgian rider Eric Palante was found dead on Friday morning following the Dakar Rally's fifth stage.

According to organisers, the 50-year-old's body was found at the 143-km mark of Thursday's stage, the longest of the event, after a vehicle was sent to recover him on Friday morning.

Organisers said they had not received any alerts during the stage, and that the causes of Palante's death were being investigated.

Palante, a father of five, was competing in the Dakar for the 11th time.

The Belgian is the 27th competitor killed in the rally's history.

Fact of the matter Dakar Rally is loving brutal and probably most deadly race next to Isle of Man stuff. Sadly I expect people to die since it's so loving brutal. Considering you're on a bike and you hit a rock you don't see and you go flying. It sucks and it's sad, but it's Dakar. What kind of safety can they do to make Dakar safer besides trying to be careful.

Got an idea for an LMP1 car? Give it to Perrin - http://sportscar365.com/wec/perrinn-launches-new-open-source-lmp1-concept/

Sportscar365 posted:

While a debut this year may be out of the question, Nicolas Perrin has laid out plans for his four-wheel drive LMP1 car to fight against top manufacturers in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2015. (En Français)

The U.K.-based constructor, in an Endurance-Info exclusive, has revealed that the car will be called “myLMP1″, which will be entered by Perrinn Limited under the “myTeam” banner.

It’s a new concept created by the former engineer for Williams F1, who is aiming to expose the world of endurance racing to fans in a new way.

“This is the culmination of three years of research to get [to this point] of the project,” Perrin said in an exclusive interview. “This fairly new idea struck me as the right solution. We would share the story of an innovative team. It has never been [done] in motorsport, as everything is [usually] hidden.

“Everything [with the myLMP1] will be open-source. That is to say that we will open our information to everyone, for free. The goal is to have the maximum number of fans and supporters. Everything will be available in real-time on our website. The idea is to attract partners in a different way.”

The construction of a LMP1 car requires a lot of financial resources and Perrinn Limited is aiming to innovate.

“We must reinvent the business model and I think there is much to gain by sharing data,” he said. “It’s too complicated for a manufacturer to do and impossible for a customer team.

“Perrinn Limited wants to have the means to do so, because the ultimate goal is to fight for the overall win at Le Mans and in the FIA WEC. Technically, we are ready and we have the intellectual property.”

Perrin confirmed that partners are willing to join the project and the LMP1 constructor hopes to have the remaining budget in place soon.

It’s expected that the first car will begin on-track testing late this year, before a full-season FIA WEC commitment next year, with one or two cars. Several engine options are currently being evaluated.

“By launching myTeam, we want people to realize that in some way, this program is theirs,” Perrin said. “They are not expected to make any contributions for access to the information. Fans can even [interact] and make suggestions in real time. We will put in place a dedicated team to do this.

“The build of a LMP1 car is a technological project. With our concept, we will expand the scope of education by inspiring a new generation of scientists. Everyone can suggest things through a school or university. Anything is possible.”

The LMP1 project does not date back to yesterday. “It’s been three years since I put every effort to launch the car in a traditional way,” he added. “But I am ready to start a revolution in the industry… We cannot pretend to compete with manufacturers if we do same things. We must innovate in order to otherwise find the funding. I firmly believe in myTeam.”

More information can be found on the constructor’s Web site: http://perrinn.com/

A neat concept, but I doubt they'd use anything a fan makes. Also, predicting alot of "put a dildo on it lol" type poo poo. Though to be fair, the dildo shape seems to be working somewhat for DeltaWing.

I definitely agree though. Rebellion, Strakka, and Perrin could probably make a top notch LMP2 car. The thing about Perrin is that they seem to be under the impression that they can legitimately pose a challenge to the manufacturer teams. Rebellion and Strakka on the other hand know they can't, and instead go for the "privateer's championship".

I would support this, but only if the cars were produced on a large scale. Homologation rules in the past were kinda bullshit since the manufacturers would only make like 30 cars. I feel like that kills the whole point of homologation in the first place: to make a racecar out of a roadcar, not the other way around.
