Man, I am so pleasantly surprised that this show so easily, quickly became the comedy I was most excited to watch each week again. I'd be happy to rewatch any of the three episodes so far. I don't feel extreme awkwardness or reaccustomization or anything. This seems basically as fun, in general, as seasons 2 and 3. I really, really want it to stay good and get a sixth season.

Brooklyn 99 is funny, but its not on the same level as Community in my mind. To its credit its not on the same level as BBT or 2.5 Men either. It has come into its own though, which is a good thing and its far from bad TV.

That's interesting, especially considering that Community's latest episode is probably the least laugh-out-loud funny episode Harmon has done. Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic episode and was the sort of perfectly tounge-firmly-in-cheek style parody that only Dan Harmon and Weird Al (why has he not been on the show yet?) can pull off properly, but only Dean Pelton's line about Trouble got a real chuckle out of me. I like that Community is morphing into a different style of comedy and pop culture references; the type of style I want to write. More so then dropping lines, or mention them in passing, or this is just like that one thing ____. It is making it subtle and drawing from the visuals and tropes to make a more rewarding piece of pop culture reference. The comedy morphing is great cause its not something that's really done in television in this way, and that's one of the things I really like about the show. Although Dan Harmon has done more blatant to pop culture in overt dialogue, this episode... ironically seemed more mature, even if it did involve an rear end crack bandit.

I'll admit this episode would have probably worked a lot better for me if I had found the central concept funny. "rear end crack bandit"? Really? You couldn't have come up with anything better? Although I had no idea putting quarters down exposed buttcracks was a thing anyone did at all until someone told me after the episode, so maybe some of you are just used to it as a concept.

Saw this episode and it was the first time in a long time that I was laughing out loud (clapping too) constantly at a network TV show. I am so pumped for the coming episodes. Really enjoyed the look and feel of the episodes, but goddamn if I didn't love the song in this one. Not only do I want that full song, but I now want ones like that too. The snapping fingers, Chang's huge churro, and the Annie/Duncan scene just slayed me. Though I fully accept that it was probably just multiple people as the ACB, I support the idea of Britta being the culprit. Not only did it completely mirror her narration cadence and style of her spooky story, but it is also the type of faux-rebellion crap that she won't actually get in trouble for a-la Geography of Global Conflict. And did anyone else notice the incredibly complex and technical drawings in the stables as they entered? Mechano-cats! Also, the person in the stables that they first encounter is NOT Starburns. Has silver/blonde hair with a different style.

I thought the episode would have been a hell of a lot better if the look wasn't blatantly aping a distinct visual style. To me, one of the funniest things about the show was how all the insane poo poo went on, but it still had its own look. It's cool to do occasional call outs, but to base the entire episode around it really took me out of it. It was a parody of a Fincher film, and that's all I could see when I watched. I think back to the season one episode "The Science of Illusion", where Annie and Shirley became campus security, and could only think how awful it would have been if they had tailored the look of the episode to copy the exact look of say, Don Siegel or Michael Bay, instead of doing their own thing.

Was the ending montage a reference to any specific movie? Zodiac is the only movie I can think of where the killer wasn't caught, and I don't think it ended with a montage like that. Also, I don't have the screenshots, but surprisingly, all the newspapers in the opening montage had actual articles about the bandit. I bothered to pause and read them; nothing too funny, but I admire the commitment.

I was gonna say, read any colleges (community or otherwise) newspaper and those are the types of crimes you see, with a real one sprinkled in every so often. In fact, my college had a serial garbage can flipper, multiple serial fountain pissers, and my town (although not a college town) had a serial inflatable Christmas lawn ornament popper a couple years ago, which I found hilarious. I really didn't think this episode was funny at all and it was compounded by the really poorly done color grading trying to ape a Fincher flick. I'm really quite shocked that you all loved this, to me it seemed like more of the same bullshit in season 4 - the episodes are trying way too hard to be Community-like that they forgot how to be funny.
