Fister Roboto posted:Sorry about your dog bro This made me a little misty-eyed, although if I think about it a bit I realize it's horseshit. It doesn't take much for a dog to connect the human's movements to the car turning. I got a giggle out of making my last dog fall over in the passenger seat because I would slide my hands on the wheel like I was turning it really fast and she would lean into it.

Yeah, lots of dogs are definitely smart enough to figure that out. The part about it being a magical adventure box is still true though

Sorry about your dog, man. I had to put my dog down a little over 3 years ago, so I know how you feel. I hope this can help you feel a little better.

Want to throw that ball. Shame about Irish wolfhounds. They are obviously the best dogs; giant, loving, playful, scraggly dogs roughly the size of a small horse. No exaggeration, when they stand on their hind legs they can get up to like seven feet tall. Thing is, though, that size to lifespan correlation holds true for them, they only live for about five to seven years before dying, usually of bone cancer or heart problems. I'd love to get one, but from the day I brought him home I'd basically be in tears like "you are going to be dead before I know it. " I have somewhat the same anxiety with dogs in general but with an Irish wolfhound it would be a lot worse because they just have really short lives and there's no way around it.

I always thought it would be awesome to have a wolfhound, but I'd basically need to own a few acres to make sure he has room to stretch his legs.

Mr. Nice! posted:I always thought it would be awesome to have a wolfhound, but I'd basically need to own a few acres to make sure he has room to stretch his legs. Not really. They're pretty docile dogs and love to lounge about. They need exercise like everyone else but not an extraordinary amount, a good walk once a day should suffice. The main problem with them (Besides their short lifespans and tendency towards health problems) is that they eat a lot of food.

Yeah the 2 irish hounds I've dealt with were the laziest when left to their own devices.

I take her out to a huge park once a week to really let her run and that's done wonders to keep her slim and her joints in good shape. But beyond that, one good walk a day is enough to keep her happy. Also, she's a small Great Dane (125 pounds) but she still eats four cups a day, plus whatever she can scam.
