Yeah, pretty much this.

Some of these episodes seem to like to take some of the worst obsessions of the fanbase and make fun of them pretty badly. In my little time looking at this I know some people like Raven's legs a little too much, so I can only really see this as a reaction to that.

Right. I was on board with the Raven as Chun Li jokes, but the fan service (which is what that was) was way over the top.

I'm guessing 4chan loved it though.

Cyborg basically becoming Raven is a much better gag than the episode's actual plot and they really should have ran with that as their joke.

This is hyperbole.

I can see how people could be made uncomfortable by the ep though. Especially like, Americans. But really I can't help but be underwhelmed having seen the ep after reading some of these comments. I was expecting something anime-tier or at least actually creepy or inappropriate.

To anyone who hasn't seen the ep yet and is wondering what's up, the episode has a lot of jokes about Raven's legs. The most 'adult' or sexual this gets is when at one point, Beast Boy turns into a wolf and wolf whistles at her. Is this really enough to get all 'think of the children' over? I've seen worse in like, Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Yeah, it really wasn't that bad, it just felt a little weird seeing it and I still feel it's more of a comment on the creppy fan obsession with her legs than a genuine loving tribute.

Honestly I don't even think it's a comment on the fans either. I thought it was just a joke about Ravens costume. In a way, I think this is just one of those things that is just ruined by being aware of the creepy internet people who do sexualize these characters, because while you're watching it you are kind of aware of that in the back of your head. It's like the way knowing what a furry is ruins the fun of Space Jam by making any scene with that female version of Bugs Bunny instantly uncomfortable.

I dunno, to me it felt like they were taking the idea that her legs were something worth noting to a ridiculous degree. They made it so the part of her costume that blocked her legs was taken out of the picture and when that happened that became literally the only thing about her that was important to anyone, including herself, anymore. She's a half demon with magic powers but now that she has legs, kicking is way better is a concept so ridiculous that I don't think it's a stretch to say they weren't playing it straight.

I wuv your brains.

When I was like 13 and watching Teen Titans you'd better believe I noticed those legs, so I thought that them being a huge focus this episode was pretty funny in a nudge-wink haha remember that? kinda way. I don't really give a poo poo if other people have been like fan-sperging about them for the past decade. v:shobon:v

Remember, this is the industry that decided that the best way to follow up the popularity of Starfire in the wake of the original Teen Titans was to have her walk around naked in the comics and then had no idea why the girls who were fans of the character as portrayed on the show were mad.

Hell, there was an entire episode of the original Teen Titans that was rapey as poo poo where Slade hunts down Raven, beats her into submission, and tears her costume off and taunts her over how powerless she is because ~comic books~. This episode is downright wholesome by comparison, it's less outright objectification and more poking fun at comic book costumes.

You're right that probably nobody was massively skeeved out like Whitenoise Poster was implying. I think what you wrote there is exactly right, and is precisely why you saw all the comments in this thread.

As far as actual jokes though (which is why we're here), I did really like the gag where Raven kicked Jinx twice so both legs were in frame, then a third leg comes flying in from offscreen and nails her in the face.

I was a little uncomfortable about the whole "introversion is wrong" moral, but Teen Titans Go is all about those kinds of anti-morals.

Jesus how can a robot be so adorable and horrifying at the same time?

Anyway, this episode was interesting from a storyboard perspective; an important part of dialogue is being able to express different things by saying the same line in different manners; just saying "waffles" in that case is pretty much masterclass for that exercise.

Yeah, there's been a number of violent ones lately- one of which, ironically is the one where they convert to peaceful methods. It bugs me a little bit because my 2 year old daughter actually loves TTG, so it's kind of irritating when I have to show her "Girl's Night Out" for the umpteenth time rather than a new one. But that's a minor quibble- the show is obviously not intended for her age.

Looking through my DVR, the Cyborg episode is next week. I suspect Cartoon Network just shows them whenever.

This episode seemed almost frantic; the perils of a 15 minute show, I suppose.

I did laugh at the garbage dimension, though.
