What is CoC?

Clash of Clans is a freemium strategy/basebuilding game available on iOS and Android devices. The goal of the game is to build a base to jealously hoard resources that you either earn from collectors, or steal from other players. Buildings and units are produced and upgraded in real time, so that 3 day construction time means you can put your phone down and ignore this game for three days if you like. Careful though! If you log out without a shield, your base can and will be attacked by other players. Although your base will routinely be sacked as if it were Rome circa 476 AD, your buildings do not disappear forever.

Where do goons play and how do I join?
Supercell has added a general clan search feature recently, which means that goon clans are getting spammed by requests from pubbies. Most clans are set to closed because of that, but it doesn't mean we don't want you! If you see a closed clan with space, ask here in the thread and we'll open it up temporarily for you!

There are currently two three FOUR fiiiive six a whole shitstack of goon clans:
:siren: WE WELCOME GOONS OF ANY TOWNHALL LEVEL. Some clans have trophy limits set high to discourage low level pubbies from applying. Just ask here if you want in and the limit is too high.
  • WeSpent500Dolla #QOCR8L
  • 2Poor4Gems #PJG2V92
  • SHOWMEYOURPEKKA #L8CUYV8
  • UGievArchers #29Y90YGL
  • Goon Tang Clan #9RPVQV0V (there are two goon tang clans, one is alive and one is dead. join the one with this tag)
  • Spergs of War #2YJCLC9V
  • 2LEGIT2LIFT #882YJG9G
  • lazygoons #8JJLVV8U Low to no effort clan. Perfect clan for those who rarely log on
  • lazygoons 2 #9LVCQCVL Even lazier than lazygoons!
  • Melt Down #22UJJYPY (Not all goons but goon friendly, tell them "morning wood" sent you)
  • tl;dr #2LQPGJQJ (Not all goons but goon friendly. 1000 trophies and be active. War twice a week.)
  • Ermine Patterns #8ORCVLUG (Not all goons but goon friendly.)
  • WWSPD! (What Would Snake Plissken Do!) #C08GGPC (Only one goon, TH7+, very war focused clan. Mention TwoScoops in the join request)

In order to join, you must first find the clan castle ruins and rebuild them. You then find the “search clans” tab within that structure, and look for whichever clan whose name you find more hilarious. Your invitation request MUST include a reference to SA in some way, or you will be rejected. If the clan is full, you will also be rejected. Please note that being rejected due to a full clan causes you to be “banned” from requesting an invite again for a period of time. This does NOT mean that we banned you (although we probably wish we could), it is simply an in-game anti-spam feature. Please feel free to apply to a clan as soon as your castle is rebuilt, regardless of your Town Hall level!

Congratulations! You’ve installed this game on your mobile device and are well on your way to Asperger’s Syndrome. Follow the tutorial, and then come back here and read all of my really good words that I wrote here.

When you first begin playing, you are under a shield. You cannot be attacked by other players unless you go and do something stupid, such as... attacking another player. You will need these 3 days to get your base into fighting shape. Keep an eye on the shield timer at the top of the screen! Attack the goblins in the single player campaign as much as you want to supplement your income.

Conventional wisdom is to spend the first two days building and upgrading resources as much as possible. Build all the gold and elixir collectors you can, and upgrade those and your storages as much as possible. Since you can't be attacked yet, you don't need cannons. Once you have about 1 day left in your shield, you will then want to build and upgrade your defenses. Mortar is your top priority, followed by archer towers, and then cannons.

Once your shield runs out, you are now vulnerable to attack from other players. If you are defeated, it will activate a shield with a timer based on how badly you were crushed. You cannot be attacked again while a shield is up.

Terminology

CC: short for Clan Castle, not crowd control you WoW playing freak.
TH: short for Town hall. “Starts at TH8” means that something cannot be done until your Town Hall is upgraded to level 8.
Bloons: short for the Balloons unit
Gobs: short for Goblins.
Bees: means different thing to different people but typically means armies consisting of only barbs, archers and goblins (in any ratio)
Barch: barbarians and archers. it's just a different way of saying bees.
Gowipe: an army consisting of GOlems, WIzards & PEkkas
Gowiwi: either your child telling you they need to go to the bathroom, or an army consisting of GOlems, WIzards, & WItches
Bloonion/Dragoonion: an army consisting of Bloons and Minions, sometimes with dragons thrown in
Discos: An inferno tower set to multi-strike mode. Because it shoots light everywhere. Like a disco ball. Disco inferno. Do you get the pun yet?

Resources

Gold

Gold is used for the construction and upgrading of Walls, Defensive Structures and elixir production/storage. It may be collected or stolen. You will use more gold than any other resource mainly due to walls.

Elixir

Elixir is used for the construction and upgrading of Troops, Army Camps, Barracks, Spells, Gold production/storage and Dark Elixir production/storage. It may be collected or stolen. Less used than gold because of the lack of a true sink for it other than expensive armies.

Dark Elixir

Dark Elixir is used for the construction and upgrading of Dark Barracks troops, the Barbarian King and the Archer Queen. It can only be stolen at TH7, and may be collected at TH8.

Gems

The IAP currency. Pretty much everything you do has an “I’m impatient” button that will spend your gems to finish something RIGHT NOW. It can be used on finished structures to speed the rate of production for a set time period, or to buy resources outright. You also must use gems to purchase Builder’s Huts, which determines how many different structures you can produce at any given time. Gems are earned randomly by clearing debris (trees/shrubs/rocks) from your screen, are awarded to the very top ranked clans (you will never earn this), completing achievements, or are purchased when playing this game drunk. Gems can never be stolen from other players.

Buildings

Town Hall
This is the structure that determines what you can build. As you upgrade your town hall, new buildings become available and existing buildings are able to be upgraded further. It stores a small amount of gold and elixir, and acts as your storage at the very beginning of the game. It is also a central objective when attacking and defending.

Builder’s huts
Each builder’s hut contains one builder. One builder is required for each structure you want to build or upgrade. You begin with one, and may have up to 5, though it’s difficult to have more than three without ponying up :10bux:

Resource Structures

Collectors
The passive way to accumulate resources. They sit there and produce gold, elixir or dark elixir for you . Tapping the collector transfers the accumulated resources to your storages. When attacking or defending, 50% of the accumulated amount in collectors is able to be stolen. Upgrading collectors increases the rate of collection and the amount that can be stored in them before needing to be tapped.

Storage
Where your resources go when you collect or steal it. 20% of stored resources can be stolen in raids, so it is best to have your gold/elixir here rather than sitting in collectors. As TH level goes up, the % available goes down, but the cap rises. Here's an image from clashofclans.wikia.com:

Defenses/Traps
Protect yo' poo poo.

Cannons

Single target DPS, will only fire at ground targets. No preferred targets. Not particularly intimidating.

Archer tower

Single target DPS, fires at both air and ground targets. Slightly longer range than cannons, same HP and DPS. No preferred targets, but I swear this fucker always goes for my healers

Mortar

Splash damage, will only fire at ground targets. Has a minimum firing range, and will not hit anything that is too close. No preferred targets. Responsible for the deaths of billions.

Air Defense

Single target DPS, fires at air targets only. No preferred targets. The bane of dragons and healers.

Wizard Tower

Splash damage, fires at both air and ground targets. Shorter range than everything except the Tesla. Turns goblins into a fine mist.

Hidden Tesla

Surprise! ur ded. Single target DPS, fires at both air and ground targets. It is not visible until troops get close to it, then it pops up and attacks for the remainder of the fight. Also apparently will pop up if a star is earned from destroying 50% of a base or destroying the TH. Will fire at P.E.K.K.A first if there is one close, and does double damage to them.

X-Bow

A gattling crossbow. Shoots rapid fire bolts at single targets. This structure can be instructed to fire at both air and ground targets, or it can be set to ground targets only for the benefit of an increased range. It also must be "loaded" with elixir in order to fire. If it runs out, it will not function. No prefered targets.

Inferno Tower

The eye of Sauron. Shoots a continuous beam of fire at nearby targets. Like the X-Bow, it also has two settings. One setting is single target, and will ramp up DPS over time. This mode will absolutely wreck beefy troops like Dragon, Golem and P.E.K.K.A. The second mode is a flat DPS, but it will target 5(?) troops at once. In both modes, targets being burned may not be healed. Also like the X-Bow, the Inferno Tower must be loaded with Dark Elixir to function.
*As of July 2014, disco mode doesn't instantly target new troops; there is a small delay when the first troop dies.

Air Sweeper

Your very own oscillating fan! It doesn't do any damage, but pushes all air units away from it. It has a narrowly focused radius that you can set with the rotate button. Upgrading it increases the pushpack distance.

TRAPS:

Bomb

The first trap. It's a little bomb that stays hidden until a troop steps near it, when it explodes. It's best when grouped with other bombs, as the damage is honestly pretty weak.

Giant Bomb

Now we're talking. It's the same thing as a bomb, just bigger. This bomb can take out a significant portion of an army if well placed, and a lucky (or unlucky) troop placement on these bombs can essentially end the fight.
*As of July 2014, giant bombs do 1.5x damage to hog riders.

Air Bomb
Floating red balloons. When a flying unit gets close, it floats on over to the troop and explodes like a ground based bomb. More powerful than a ground based bomb, this bomb is very good at taking out minions

Seeking Air Mine

Floating black balloons. This bomb is an order of magnitude stronger than the air bomb, but is single target only. They will instantly kill healers, and pretty much ruin dragons.

Spring Trap

The only trap that cannot be upgraded. These springs comedically eject ground based troops that step on top of them, removing them from the battle. It seems to have a cap based on the unit "size." It will throw out a big bunch of goblins, up to 3 giants, and cannot eject heavy troops like the Barbarian King.

Skeleton Trap

A small coffin that hides 2, 3 or 4 skeleton buddies depending on level. These traps can be set to attack ground OR air units. Once triggered the skelebuddies will act like clan castle troops, distracting and damaging nearby enemies.

Army Buildings

Camps
Army Camps determine how large your army can be. Upgrade them to increase the number of troops available for attacking.

Barracks
Where troops are trained. Upgrading barracks unlocks new kinds of units, and allows a larger number of units to be queued at a time.

Dark Barracks
Dark units are trained here. Same as barracks, but they're 14 years old and listen to tooL.

Clan Castle
This structure is what allows you to join a clan, but it also houses reinforcement troops. Click a button to ask your clan to send you some troops, and they will be available to use in attacks, or to defend your base for you while you're at your weekly LARPing group. Upgrading this building allows more troops to be stored for defense. You'll need 20 available slots to get a dragon.

Laboratory
The Laboratory is where troops are upgraded. Do not neglect upgrades! Try to keep your units as upgraded as they can be, or else you will have difficulty attacking.

Spell Factory
Spells are single use items that are available to you when attacking. You can have one spell per level of your factory, so a level 3 Factory allows you up to 3 spells to use in battle. Think carefully about using them, as they are expensive.

Spells available are:

Lightning

Drop a potion, and a little storm will happen in an area around your tap. Good for taking out enemy CC troops, destroying air defenses before an attack, or stealing dark elixir

Healing

Creates a pool of AE Healing over time. Great to save a group in trouble, but it won't save things from being one-shotted.

Rage

Creates a pool of I'M MAD AS H*CK. Any troops inside will move faster and hit harder.

Jump

Area effect "I got mad hops." Units in this circle will jump over walls.
*As of July 2014, units will now alter their pathing to use the jump circle even if not within the spell effect. They act as if walls had been broken.

Freeze

Incapacitates enemy troops and buildings for a few seconds.

Barbarian King/Archer Queen

Kinda troops, kinda buildings. The Barbarian King and Archer Queen are built like structures, and are immortal. They can be used when attacking, or can patrol your base for defense. When injured or killed, they have to lie down and take a nap for a while. They are built and upgraded with Dark Elixir, and can be upgraded a staggering 40 (!!!!) times. The King hits things with a sword holds a sword while he punches things, while the Queen shoots things with a triple-shot X-bow.

Both heroes have a unique ability available to them in battle. The Barbarian King has Iron Fist, which is a small area of effect rage spell that affects himself and any Barbarians in proximity to him. If no Barbarians are nearby, a few will spawn when activated. This ability does not stack with the rage spell from your factory.

The Archer Queen has Royal Cloak, which is an invisibility spell. When activated, the Queen cannot be attacked by troops or defensive structures. A number of archers will spawn as well, though they do not appear to gain invisibility.

Both abilities unlock at Hero Level 5, and become increasingly stronger every 5 levels beyond that.

:ducksiren: As of July 2014, heroes were dramatically changed.

✔ The heroes have gotten sick and tired of being lured out and squashed in the edges of the map. Now, they only attack targets in a limited territory around their platform and will retreat if they get drawn away too far.

✔ Both heroes now get a damage increase and recover health when activating an ability. Use the damage boost to get an edge over defending heroes, or the healing to save them from the clutches of defeat!

✔ Hero abilities now improve much more significantly with each new ability level and summon more supporting troops than before. The best way to make your hero stronger when attacking is to increase their ability level!

✔ Hitpoints and damage for the Queen and hitpoints for the King have been slightly increased at lower levels. However, hero hitpoints and damage have been decreased at higher levels in order to balance heroes on defense and allow for stronger abilities.

✔ The effect of Rage Spells on Heroes has been reduced to put more emphasis on the skillful use of hero abilities. For the Queen and later levels of the King, bonus damage from hero abilities will far exceed bonus damage from Rage Spells. As before, Rage Spell bonus damage and hero ability bonus damage will not stack (the greater of the two takes precedent).

✔ Heroes now specialize in a certain role:

Barbarian King: The Tank Specialist

✔ His damage has been reduced, but he now can heal himself greatly when using his Iron Fist ability.

✔ The Barbarian horde summoned by Iron Fist has doubled in size to cause even more mayhem!

✔ Use Iron Fist at the right time to help the King take more damage than he ever could before!

Archer Queen: The Damage Specialist

✔ Her hitpoints have been reduced in later levels, but the Queen now gains a tremendous damage boost while her Royal Cloak ability is active.

✔ The duration of Royal Cloak has been greatly increased in lower levels to help make sure the Queen has enough time to land her most powerful of shots.

✔ Use Royal Cloak at the right time to help the Queen hit important targets harder than she ever could before!

Walls

Ok look, here's the thing about walls. They aren't there to stop your enemy, they are there to slow him down long enough for your defenses to work. Your walls will break, it's just a matter of how long they'll hold before they do. Hold long enough, and maybe you can keep some of your gold! Unfortunately, walls are STAGGERINGLY EXPENSIVE. Upgrading walls starts off at 1,000 gold, but very quickly starts to cost 30k, 75k, 200k, all the way on up to 4 million PER WALL SEGMENT. There are up to 250 segments available to you. Just go ahead and kill yourself. It is important to keep walls up as much as possible, but come the gently caress on.

Unit Types

Barracks

Barbarians

Little blonde guys with a fu-manchu and a sharp thing. Much like myself, they're cheap, dumb and will hit on the first thing they see. Takes 1 slot.

Archers

Chicks with an attitude. Ranged troops that form the backbone of most armies. They also attack the nearest targets. For some reason they love to attack walls for 2 minutes straight. Takes 1 slot.

Goblins

Greedy little buggers. These troops will go straight for any resource based structure, and will only attack other buildings when all resources are collected. Double damage to resource buildings, and higher DPS than barbs or archers if they survive to the end of the battle. They stoles it from us, precious. Takes 1 slot.

Giants

Bald irish looking fatties. These guys have a problem with authority, and will focus exclusively on defensive structures. They can take a lot of punishment, but their damage doesn't keep up well. They need to be backed up by other troops.Takes 5 slots.

Wallbreakers

It's okay that he's a suicide troop, because he's already dead! These skeletons find the nearest wall, ululate wildly, and explode. Unless you want to spend the entire battle knocking on bricks, these troops will be needed. Takes 2 slots.

Balloons

Flying skeletons! Since they can fly right over walls, they go for defenses just like giants. They have very good DPS especially when upgraded, but are slow moving and very fragile.Takes 5 slots.

Wizards

Ranged AE damage. The AE effect is small enough to not matter on buildings, but they can decimate enemy troops. A favorite reinforcement troop. Takes 4 slots.

Healers

Your guardian angel. These ladies fly in the air and rain down AE loving on whoever needs it. They have a maddening habit of healing one guy on the side while clumps of your troops die 5 feet away. Takes 14 slots.

Dragons

A terrifying lizard! A flying AE damage troop, this huge guy is a death machine. Beefy enough to withstand some damage, but does not attack a specific building type. If not killed, it can level a base by itself. Takes 20 slots.

P.E.K.K.A

An armored samurai knight viking... robot?...thing? Who cares what it is, it is a death machine. Ground based single target extremely high DPS. Immune to spring traps, vulnerable to Tesla Coils. Takes 25 slots.

Dark Barracks

Minions

Pretty much a flying demon monkey. This troop buzzes around spitting what looks to be tobacco onto whatever is closest. Cheap troops to swarm with, but they are very fragile and will get wrecked by Air Bombs. They are however immune to the Seeking Air Mine. Takes 2 slots.

Hog Riders

Mister T Rides again! This mad bro with a hammer rides a magical pig that allows him to jump straight over walls. They go straight for defenses, and when grouped together can completely gut a base before anyone knows what happened. Vulnerable to traps, CC troops and King/Queens. Takes 5 slots.
*As of July 2014, hog riders take 1.5x damage from big bombs.

Valkyries

Literally a WW Barb from Diablo II. A very rarely used troop, this lady swings a double edged axe in a circle, for pretty respectable DPS. Takes 8 slots.
*As of July 2014, Valks have new improved AI. They will now intentionally try to position themselves between buildings to maximize their AE damage.

Golems

A single target behemoth that will take an army to kill. Goes for defenses first. Once killed, it splits into two smaller units, so each Golem actually must be killed 3 times. Vulnerable to the single-target inferno tower and... not much else! Takes 30 slots.

Witches

This lady is a necromancer. She fires damage from her staff, but will also constantly summon skeletons to fight for her. The damage is pretty low, but the swarms of skeletons are where her danger comes from. Takes 12 slots.

Lava Hounds

The most recently added dark elixir troop is a comically stupid looking dogdemon. The lava hound has the health of a golem, the damage of a minion, flies, and seeks out air defenses first. After its inevitable death the lava hound explodes in a shower of small dogs. These lava pups attach the nearest target for pitiful damage and are killed by a good stiff fart. The idea behind this troop is to send them out immediately ahead of dragons or bloons, to keep your damage dealers alive. It is NOT intended to be able to kill a single goddamn thing. Takes 30 slots.

Attacking

Goblin Missions
The single player campaign. Honestly, if you want to beat this campaign and are having trouble, just search YouTube for the name of whichever map you're stuck on. They can become quite challenging since they aren't subject to the same construction limits as players. The very last missions are worth up to 800k/800k though so they are well worth your time!

Other Players

The reason you're playing this game, to make people cry! When clicking the attack button, you are presented with a random opponent. You then have 30 seconds to decide whether or not to attack this person. If you click next, you pay some gold and get a new opponent. If you wait too long or deploy a troop, the battle begins. You have 3 minutes to do your worst. Don't be afraid to click the next button until you get a base worth attacking. If you spent 50k elixir on your army, don't bother with a base that is worth 5k! Any troops except the king and queen that are deployed in battle are permanently used, even if they did not die in combat.

Clan Wars
Clan Wars is a new feature added in April '14. I will eventually write a ton of words about it, but for now I will direct your attention here:

Preparation Day Tutorial by "Daddy"

War Day Tutorial by "Daddy"

FAQ Post on the Supercell Forums

and here:

Gangringo posted:

This is sort of a PSA post because I keep having to correct people on some aspects of clan war:

1. When the prep day timer hits zero the game takes a snapshot of your base at that moment to use for the entirety of the war. This is literally the only time your base has to be in defensive mode. If you're online at the time go balls-out and position your storages so that enemies clump up where mortars, wizard towers, and air defenses can hit them. The resources stolen in a clan war attack literally come from thin air, you will not lose anything if you are defeated in a clan war attack. The second the war starts you can move everything back without consequences. You can spend the entire war with your town hall exposed if it's inside at the moment the war starts.

2. Anything building at the start of the war will work as if it is level 1, so feel free to integrate building things into your defenses. Anything upgrading will work at the level of its last completed upgrade, so make sure that mortar with two days to go on level 5 is in place. Any traps you have in place will always work as intended. This goes for your enemies too, so don't assume that bomb won't be there if you're improving on a clanmate's attack.

3. Your defensive clan castle is set and will always have the troops that were specifically donated to your war clan castle donated on prep day in it. If I gave your war clan castle a dragon on prep day it will pop out every time some pubbie scrub attacks you, no matter how many times they kill it but ultimately fail to conquer your awesome base. The other side of this is that you shouldn't donate troops to the clan castles on the war screen unless you have top level troops. In our clan it's level 5 wizards or level 3 dragons, but it may be different elswhere. If you are unsure, ask.

4. Always, always, always lure the enemy clan castle troops, Barbarian King, and Archer Queen. Expect that the top level players have filled every clan castle to the brim with face-melting dragons, wizards, and witches. They might be complete scrubs and have nothing but level 2 archers, but they also might vaporize your army the second you get close. Make sure you always bring a team of archers and wizards to deal with these guys, always ask higher level players for wizards if you need them.

5. Only the highest number of stars taken from a base counts. If I get a pitiful single star on someone and you then attack him and get three stars because you're an awesome stud like that the clan gets three stars, not four. You will also only get two stars progress on your clan war achievement. A single star on any base, even one already three-starred will get you the full resource reward, so if your clan has an insurmountable lead with little time left and you have an attack, you can take out the biggest, nastiest pubbie base with a town hall left outside but for the love of god don't do so until cleared to do so. Seriously, you snipe a base before the time for such things and I will find you.

If you are still unsure about any of this or want advice on how to deal with a specific war enemy, ask. There are no stupid questions!

Now take this and go out there and kick some rear end!

Trophies

There are three conditions for winning a battle.
  • 1 star is earned for destroying the enemy town hall.
  • 1 star is earned for destroying 50% of an enemy's structures
  • 1 star is earned for destroying all enemy structures.

If you fail these objectives, you lose trophies. You earn increasing amounts of trophies for each star earned. Earn enough trophies to move up through the various leagues. Which league you are in determines who is available to attack, and who can attack you. Achievements that award gems occur at 750, 1250 and 2000 trophies earned. If attacking for trophies, it is easiest to attack exposed structures, especially the TH if available.

Earning Resources

Resources are stolen when you damage and destroy an enemy's collectors or storages. This is the goal for the vast majority of us, and many do not care about trophies at all. If I steal 300k gold, but fail to earn any stars, did I really lose?

Revenge

When setting out to attack, check your defense log first. Opening the hall of shameful defeats, you may notice a red Revenge button. Any person who is attacked may attack that person back directly one time. Revenges cannot be revenged.

Before setting out to restore honor to your family name, tap the person’s name. A window will pop up with the “visit” option. Tap that to get a look at the person’s base before committing to an attack. If you think you’re capable of destroying the usurper, go ahead and click the revenge button. You can even custom tailor your army to match their base if you like! The amount of trophies available in a revenge attack is higher than normal attacks, so they are especially good for climbing up in the league. Attack rules apply, so a person who is online or shielded cannot be revenged.

Recognizing where the resources are

When you attack a base, the resources available for theft are either sitting in his collectors, his storages, or both. How do you know which? There is no way to be certain, but you can make an educated guess based on several clues during your 30 seconds of scouting. It’s worth investigating, because under extreme circumstances there may be no resources available in the storages at all! This should dictate where and how you place your troops.

  • Do the storages look full? If so, they probably are. Note that if he has one high level storage and one low level storage, the lower level storage will appear full when it likely has very little in it, due to a large pool of resources being distributed to a small container.

  • Look at the league marker in the upper left. If the shield is dotted outline with no ranking in it, that means this person has not attacked since the new league started. If the league reset 1 hour ago, this is pretty meaningless. If the league has been active for a week, that means this person has not bothered to attack in a week. That probably means he hasn’t logged in, which means his storages are at max capacity.

  • Look at his builder’s huts. Are there snoozy ZZZ’s floating out of one or more of them? That means he has an idle builder. One idle builder doesn’t mean a lot by itself, but multiple idle builders combined with no league marker means this guy probably doesn’t log in to tap his storages much.

Note the lack of league placement, snoozing builder's huts, and empty looking gold storages. This opponent had some elixir in storage, but the collectors had the majority of the loot.

:ducksiren: Here is a video of our own ehud. He decided to attack the collectors, ignoring everything else because of how the base looked. This is what a gold snipe looks like, using a minimal amount of troops.

Army compositions:
You won't be able to do much other than swarm with Barbarians to start. After that, an army composed of a few giants and a giant swarm of goblins is a great way to steal a lot of stuff. After that, experiment! It depends on your playstyle and you'll have to find what you like. Here are three very common army compositions in the TH6-8 range:

Giants + Healers
Drop giants. Use wallbreakers to get to air defenses, or place giants away from them completely. Once safe, drop some healers. Back up the giants with whatever DPS you like best. Works well as soon as you have healers.

Hog Riders + Anything
Drop a shitload of Hog Riders. Typically they'll need some healing spells, but they will march outside of the area effect pretty quickly. This attack is very effective, but can easily fall apart if CC troops get to your hogs early on. You can either go 100% hogs, or reserve a few slots for wizards.

Bloons/Minions + Rage
Drop a couple minions or bloons to trigger any traps nearby. Dump a ton of bloons once it's clear, and set off rage potions once they're over air defenses. Follow up with minions. Doesn't start working well until the troops are upgraded a bit.

ADVANCED TACTICS :histdowns:

Base Design

There are as many ways to design a base as there are players of this game. Most of them are really really bad. When you're a lower TH level, you don't have the buildings available to do very much. Here are some universal tips:

  • Don't bother walling in anything that doesn't blow up enemy troops or store resources. Use those nonessential structures as a buffer to make enemy troops walk further while being fired upon.

  • Keep your resources separated by walls. If an enemy has to break down a wall for each storage he wants to get to, you are more likely to keep some of your stuff.

  • Keep your best defenses as centralized as possible. These are typically Air Defenses, Mortars, Wizard Towers and Clan Castles.

  • Don't leave too much space on the inside of your base.

See that little square by the wizard tower? It's far enough away from all other structures that you can drop your troops inside their base. Don't do that!

  • The edge of the map is not a wall! If you snuggle your base up against the edge of the map and leave it open, troops can be dropped there and you're gonna have a bad time.

Note: the game emphasizes that you should protect your TH at all costs. This only applies if you give a poo poo about trophies! A "farming base" will completely ignore the TH, setting it outside the walls. The idea behind this is that people will attack your TH, earn one star, and quit the battle in their efforts to climb the league. This will give you a shield for negligible resource losses.

If you're like myself and wish to steal layout ideas, check out clashofclansbuilder.com , where you can filter designs by TH level and rating.

One of the little things about this setup is the southeast wall is meant to be a square or two from the edge of the map. All the buildings that don't fit inside the layout are arranged in a big horseshoe around the other three sides, spread out to block troop deployment as much as possible. This makes the base look more like easy pickings and gets all your attacks coming against the south wall, which is where the bulk of the traps are.

Upgrading Your Base

So you just got a shiny new town hall, some new buildings, and everything you have can be upgraded. Where do you start? There is no right or wrong way to go about this. It will come down to available resources and personal preference. Here are some helpful tips to make upgrading as painless as possible

  • Try not to upgrade multiple buildings of the same type simultaneously. Upgrading a building renders it useless to you for the duration of the build, so deciding to upgrade all 3 of your barracks at once means you can’t build an army. Buildings that can still be used while upgrading are limited to Clan Castle, Resource Storages and Army Camps. All other buildings will become inactive.

  • Goons will tell you “always have one builder upgrading your xxx”, where xxx is barracks, collectors, defenses or storages depending on who you talk to. This is just their method and you don’t have to do what they tell you, because there’s only a 60% chance that they’re your father. Upgrade what you need most.

  • My personal recommendation is to always upgrade your laboratory first at a new TH level. The unit upgrades take a very long time, and do not require a builder. You always want to have something running in there, and that can’t be done if the lab isn’t leveled up enough.

Donating Troops

If you're in the clan and someone wants troops, you can donate yours via the chat channel. When donating, you can give up to 5 troops of any housing capacity. Giving 5 archers will take up 5 slots, giving 5 Wizards will take up 20.

:siren: :siren: :siren: We appreciate your eagerness and goonerosity but please don’t donate low level troops! They are ineffective against pretty much everything, and take up space that could be filled by a more effective troop. L3 is where most troops begin to be effective and worth donating. Here’s a helpful list:

Best Troops:

Archer( L5+)
Wizard (L5+)
Minion (L5+)
Dragon (Any level)
Witch (L2)
Balloons (L6 only)

Situational Troops:

Healers (only if specifically asked for. Good for players who can’t yet build them)
PEKKA (L3+. Very useful for offense, garbage for defense)

Bad Troops:

Everything else. They’re either too specialized (wallbreakers) or not great at defending (barbarians)

If someone requests a different troop type, by all means go ahead.

If you do not have any of these troops at the appropriate level, just sit back and request away until you have them. We will not think less of you for not donating! Also, ask for donations as frequently as you like! At higher TH levels elixir is very easy to find, and there are achievements based on donating troops.

:ducksiren: For clan wars, you should only be donating high level wizards and dragons to the war castles! If you don't have L5+ wizards or L2+ dragons, let others donate!

Helpful Resources:

Flowers For Algeria posted:

So I found an excellent spreadsheet that calculates the resources you need to build everything you have left to build on your current TH level, and the time all this should take.
It was slightly out of date so I made a few changes here and there, and now there it is! If you see any mistake, please feel free to tell me so I can modify it again.

Enter your TH level in the top left corner, then take a moment to enter the buildings you already have and their level (use the village edit mode!) and the dreaded results should appear on line 9.

I've been procrastinating and so SalTheBard decided he'd update the Spreadsheet to add lvl 13 cannons.
I also fixed a small mistake in jump spell upgrade costs.

This is a tool to help clans coordinate attacking in clan wars. The leader creates a war on this site which generates a unique code that is mailed out to you in game. Clan members then go to this site and claim which bases they wish to attack. Great idea if your whole clan is on board with it.

FREQUENTLY UTTERED CLASH QUESTIONS, aka "The FUCQ?"

When should I upgrade my Town Hall?

It is tempting to get your TH upgraded quickly in order to sooner access higher level units and buildings. What’s important to understand however is that your TH negatively influences the amount of resources that are available to steal from players with lower TH levels than you. A TH10 will earn almost nothing from a TH6-7, even if the storages are brimming over with loot. If you rush your TH without keeping up your defenses, walls and armies you will quickly find yourself with an indefensible base, enemies that don’t have enough available loot to cover your army costs, and troops that couldn’t have survived an attack to get it anyway.

Starting around TH4, you will want to leave TH upgrades until almost the very end. Having fully upgraded troops, defenses, army camps, barracks and storages will put you in the best possible position for the next TH level, and allow you to fill your storages to begin the next round of upgrades. Debatable exceptions to this rule are walls and collectors.

Walls should be upgraded as much as possible, but once they begin costing 500k per segment it becomes a terrible grind. For your sanity’s sake, spread the wall upgrades out and do them when you can, even if that means having them slightly underleveled.

There are differing opinions on collectors. Some say you should get the majority of your resources from raiding, and that upgrading collectors isn’t worth the building time. They are also more vulnerable to theft, so why bother? Well, it depends on your playstyle. Not everyone can have their CoC out 12 hours a day to raid the moment an army is built. If you log on once or twice a day, you’re going to need those resources. My personal compromise is to upgrade them when I have a free builder, but not enough resources to start on that expensive wizard tower or Yet Another loving Wall. They’re cheap to upgrade, don’t take that long (comparatively), and anything that gets stolen from them… well, I wouldn’t have had that gold anyway. Exception to this is the Dark Elixir Drill. Upgrade the poo poo out of that.

If I can’t be attacked while logged in, can I just leave the app running to be invincible?

Yes and no. For as long as you are active in the app, you cannot be attacked. After a very brief period of inactivity (3-5 minutes), a popup appears asking if you’re still there. That forces your game to reload, and until reloaded your base is vulnerable.

If you have achieved true autism and are actually active in this game for six hours, another popup appears saying Go Outside Virgin Your Workers Need To Rest! And you will be forcibly logged out for 5 minutes.

I have a shield up, but I wanna attack. Should I attack? I’m gonna attack.

Go for it. You’ll be vulnerable again, but this is a game and is meant to be fun. Kill things. If you want to log in once a day to tap things and chat with people, this game becomes Farmville With Swords.

I didn’t play for a while and I’m not in the clan anymore! Why?!

Clan size is limited to 50 people. Since there are more goons than there are spots, we have to occasionally boot inactive folks from the clan to make room for new people. The league system is how we determine inactivity.

KGBAgent185 posted:

One other things for the goon clans, well at least WeSpent500Dolla, if you are inactive for a week (No shield for your league, no donations and no received troops, all three together) you will be demoted from clan elder. Once you're demoted, if you spend the next half week and do nothing? You're getting kicked. We have a lot of people trying out the game and then immediately quitting after a few days.

Once you donate any troops, get a shield, or request troops, I'll put you at clan elder. If you're an elder, you know you aren't getting kicked any time soon.

Leagues last 2 weeks, so the inactivity kick will always be nearer the end of this time. If you're looking to get in, it's the best time to apply.

We also tend to broadcast mails to your game's inbox, or post in the thread. As of 1/23/14, 2Poor4Gems is close to full, and may need purging in the next league.

I just leveled up! What does that do for me?

Nothing.

Well, at level 75 you can buy a Statue of P.E.K.K.A. That’s about it.

What's the best way to use my gems?

First and foremost, builders. They are a permanent benefit that increases the speed of everything, due to your being able to start more projects sooner. After that it is probably wisest to be a miser with your gems, as there are special holiday events that reduce the costs of gemming. For example this past Christmas season reduced the cost of gemming production speed of all buildings down to ONE GEM! You bet your hairy rear end we took advantage of that.

If you're thinking about spending a wad of gems on a project, try to convert the gems to $ in your head, and see if you still want it. Are you really willing to spend $10 in gems to have that archer tower done RIGHT NOW!? Also realize that directly purchasing resources is the least efficient use of gems. Unless you're a piece of poo poo at playing this game, boosting barracks to raid very quickly will always result in more loot per gem spent.

Do I need that fourth and/or builder?

It depends on how obsessive you are with this game. Once projects start costing 2 million and beyond, it becomes difficult to steal enough resources to keep up with builder availability. Many goons have purchased fourth and fifth builders only to find that one or two of them sit idle.

But you're a trooper, right? You're never putting your phone down again you obsessive little weirdo, so yeah go ahead.

I need more gems! Should I get out my wallet?

Maybe! Depends on what you need them for. There are two other ways to get the gems you need. Achievements can actually give hefty rewards, and can get you more builders. Reaching 1250 trophies is the first easily completed achievement, and will reward you with enough to gems to get that third builder. Other major gem rewards are to
  • Donate 25,000 Clan Castle Capacity (250 gems)
  • Join the Crystal League (250 gems)
  • Join the Master League (1000 gems)
  • Join the Champion League  (2000 gems)
  • Destroy 250 X-Bows, which will take a long time (100 gems)
  • Destroy 10 Inferno Towers (100 gems)
  • Score 10/150/1000 stars in Clan Wars (50/200/1000 gems)
  • Collect 800k/15 million/100 million gold in Clan War Bonuses (25/100/1000 gems)
Along with many others that reward 10-50.

Many folks fool themselves into purchasing gems to "kick a lil somethin" to the developer, because they enjoy the game so much. Here is a Forbes article from last April explaining to you that these guys pull in $2.5m per day. They aren't going to miss your $5 if you don't want to give it, so do not feel guilty.

Ixo’s Definitive Intro to Clash attacKing (Ixo's dick)

You can ignore all these other stupid words, but click here to LEARN HOW TO LURE A GODDAMN CLAN CASTLE

All of my advice in this post is going to assume that you are keeping your troops, barracks, spells and army camps as upgraded as possible for your TH level. If you made it all the way to TH9 without building a spell factory, or if you’ve never trained anything but a barb, you should read the OP first.

Deciding on a goal

You’ve trained your fearsome army, cracked open a mountain dew, and open palm slammed the attack button on your phone. There are three possible reasons for wanting to destroy and pillage another person’s base: Trophy hunting, resource farming, or drunkenly showing your buddies what a pekka is. It is possible to do all three of these things concurrently, but by and large you will be more successful picking one goal and focusing on it. The vast majority of you should be farming for resources in order to upgrade your base and your troops.

Trophy Hunting

The main motivation behind trophy hunting is to get gems. The first major milestone is at 1250 trophies, which will award 450 gems. If you’ve been prudent with your gems up to this point, this is enough for your third builder. Gem rewards after that come at Crystal 3(250 gems), Masters 3 (1000 gems) and Champion 3 (2000 gems). You will also occasionally need to raid trophies while farming resources if you often “lose” raids. My personal recommendation is to hit 1250 as soon as possible, then farm until you’re at least on the high end of TH7. Crystal 3 is doable then and if the gems are worth it to you, go for it. Don’t even think about Masters league until you’re mid TH9, and fukkken lmao at you ever reaching Champion.

Farming
The vast majority of this game is about raiding for resources. It is absolutely mind boggling how much loot you need to complete upgrades in this game. Have a look at clashofclans.wikia.com/wiki/Cumulative_Costs for an idea of how much poo poo you’ll need to steal. Ignore the real money costs because you aren’t a Saudi oil baron and won’t be spending $2k on this game.

Appropriate armies for your goal
Your favorite army may be 100 level 1 minions, but perhaps it isn’t the best choice for your goals. Train your army based upon what you want to do, how often you want to attack, and what you find to be fun. More detailed army descriptions are at the end of this post.

TROPHY PUSHING

The lure of gems is too much, and you’ve decided that laying waste to your enemies is more important than material wealth. When you care about trophies, you will arrange your base in such a way as to guard your Town Hall. Your armies will be built to destroy regardless of elixir cost. You will have your phone on at all times, fingers sweatily jabbing buttons to defeat the inactivity timer lest someone steal your precious trophies. You will never log off again.

There are two main ways to farm trophies: TH sniping, and 50% victories. People who are farming will often place their TH outside their walls in the hopes that you will come along, burn down their building, and leave their precious gold alone. If you’re in trophy hunting mode, you should be happy to do this for them. It requires very few troops and can be done in rapid succession.

50% victories are an attempt to destroy buildings that are undefended, outside of walls, or protected behind one layer of walls. It is more difficult than a TH snipe because it requires more troops be committed, and may or may not be successful.

How many trophies will I get?

When you’re viewing an opponent’s base, look in the top left. There will be a trophy count there, showing you how many are available for the attack. That is how much you will get for destroying 100% of the enemy base. ⅓ of that number is what you will get for each star. If 30 cups are available, a TH snipe/50% victory will get you 10. TH destroyed + 50% of the base destroyed will be 20. Crushing him into dust will get you all 30. If you can grab those 10 trophies by sniping a TH with 8 archers, it will be much more efficient than committing your full army to earning all 30 trophies, then having to wait an hour to retrain another.

When you are attacked, look at it as an opportunity. Revenges offer increased trophy rewards, so you should look for potential targets in your defense log as a first priority.

  • To Silver 1/ Gold 3 (1200-1400 trophies)

1250 trophies will put you squarely in silver 1 territory. This tends to happen as a consequence of farming for most people, often around TH5-TH6. If it is something you actively are trying to pursue, use either bees or giants/healers. TH Snipe when possible, go for 50% victories otherwise.

  • To Crystal 3 (from 1400-2000 trophies)

Doable starting at high TH7. Gold 3 is when the more difficult TH9-10 bases really begin showing up. TH sniping will continue to work on up to around 1700-1800, at which point there just won’t be any bases with exposed THs. You can claw your way to 50% victories using bees, try to punch your way to the guarded TH using giants/healers, or use tougher and more expensive armies depending on what troops are available to you. I got to crystal using giants/healers/wizards. Please note that starting around 1800 trophies, you will be relentlessly crushed within minutes of logging out.

  • To Masters 3 (from 2000-2600 trophies)

Doable starting at mid-high TH9. It will be exceedingly difficult, as you will be fighting almost exclusively high TH9’s and TH10s. Bees won’t even make it to the walls. Your best bet is to have leveled hero units backed up by expensive armies, going for 50% victories. The current favorite army for trophy pushing in this range is bloonions using L5-6 bloons and L3-6 minions. I can’t comment much on the push to masters as I haven’t attempted it yet.

  • Beyond

If you’re capable of making it to champion league, you should be the one writing this guide.

FARMING

This is what you’re here for. Money. If you're reading this guide, you almost certainly should be farming for loot.

Picking a trophy range
You may not give a poo poo about your cups, but how many you have will determine what opponents you’re matched with. Keep in mind that these trophy ranges change, because they’re only deemed “good” based on the playerbase that tends to be in them. That can change. If you get into these recommended ranges and all the bases are worth peanuts, go up in trophies. If you’re being paired with bases that crush your giants into a fine powder, drop trophies.

For Gold/Elixir farming, try:
TH5- 700-1000
TH6- 900-1200
TH7- 1200-1400
TH8- 1200-1500
TH9- 1400-1900
TH10- 1700+

For DE, try the 1500-1900 range, depending on your town hall level and army strength.

NOTE: There is a school of thought that says you should farm in the 200 trophy range when you’re TH5-7, because people who stopped playing the game will have their bases raided until they fall that low. This is stupid, lovely, boring, and wrong.

Evaluating the enemy

How much is available?

When attacking for resources, you should be hitting the next button quite a lot. Probably way way more than you think you should be. At TH8 I will typically hit the next button 50-150 times before finding a base worth attacking. Spending 75k gold on just finding an opponent is not trivial, but it’s worth doing if it means finding a base with 300k gold. For TH3-5, any base with 150k+ combined resources is worth hitting (75k/75k is good, 100k/50k is good, etc). TH5-6, look for 200-300k minimum combined. TH7 and above, look for 300k+ if you’re using a cheap army, 400k+ if you’re using something with a substantial elixir cost. If you’re hunting for DE, anything above 500 is worth considering, 1k+ is definitely worth hitting. You won’t consistently find more than 1k until you’re in Gold 2 and above.

Are the collectors full?
Here are what collectors look like when full vs empty.

Very often you can destroy most or all collectors for a trivial troop investment, and nab 50-100% of the available loot for the mission. Take it and move on.

Are the storages full?
Storages are easier to eyeball, as they are very colorful when full. Hitting storages is not the ideal farming method because they tend to be the most protected buildings, requiring you to commit the majority of your army. If there’s too much loot to pass up, try to go for storages that are grouped together, or defended lightly.

Recognizing Defense levels/settings
Learn what defenses look like at different levels, especially the splash defenses. Tier 1 troops are especially vulnerable to splash, so going against a maxed out wizard tower with your goblins will end in tears. If you're attacking bases with X-bows and inferno towers, those structures can run out of "ammo" and be rendered inactive. An inactive x-bow will be missing its bowstring, and an inactive inferno tower will be dim.

Finding the weak points in layouts
This is a complicated question and really depends on your army composition. For ground based troops, weak points are any exposed buildings, buildings behind one layer of walls, buildings not covered by wizard towers/mortars, and any part of a wall that forms a T or X. Weak points for air based armies are anything not covered by air defenses and wizard towers.

Pitfalls

How to prevent circling the base
Your troops are loving stupid, and you’re going to have to learn to deal with it. Most troops once dropped will go for the nearest structure, preferring those that are outside of walls. This will not necessarily be the one you want them to be attacking. A very common and frustrating path for troops to take is a circular one around the perimeter of the base, knocking out unimportant buildings while taking fire from defenses. Two easy ways to prevent this are to 1) destroy the perimeter structures before deploying stronger troops 2) attack from a side with little or no perimeter structures

Demonstration of the first method:

1)

In this image DPS is dropped, walks towards a wall, and attacks the nearest buildings all the way around the perimeter.

2)

Instead of doing method one, in this image the black lines represent archers. Kill all those extraneous buildings before dropping your main force.

3)

The nearest buildings are now past the walls. Wallbreakers go towards the little explodey marks, and maybe you can have some of my gold!

More on specific armies

Bees/Barch/Bam
Variations of the same army. Proportions are up to you and should be based on what level your troops are. Don’t use minions unless they’re at least L3, and even then use sparingly. On the rare occasions I do bees, I prefer something like 40% barbs 50% archers 10% goblins or minions, with 6-8 wallbreakers thrown in. Don’t drop below 60-75 archers, as you’ll lose your ability to fire over walls effectively. This army is best used for sniping full collectors.

Pros: The cheapest and fastest army. There really is no faster way to get loot in this game. It remains practical until around Gold 3.
Cons: High level walls and splash damage defenses will shut you down. You will sometimes have to hit next on some very tempting targets that you just can’t scratch. Being able to train fast is only good if you can sit and play this game for long periods of time, which isn’t really practical. Also, this strategy is loving boring.

BAM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKikSAnIl2Q
BEES/BARCH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYYhStb77HU

Giant/Healer/dps
Use giants to distract defenses, use a healer or two to keep them alive while the dps of your choice hits the loot. This is a versatile army for either farming or trophy hunting. My favorite version of this army is 12-14 giants, 1-2 healers, 10 wallbreakers, 12 wizards (only if L4 or above), the remainder archers. If your wizards aren’t L4, use goblins (if farming) or barbs (if trophy hunting)
Pros: Able to take on more serious bases than bees. You can control the cost by choosing not to commit the expensive troops such as healers and wizards if you come across an easy base.
Cons: Can be expensive if you choose to run lots of wizards, dragons, PEKKA or valks. Can be too slow if you use too many giants. If your healer dies things can fall apart quickly.

:ducksiren: VIDEO:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih6bik6PM28

Hogs
Hogs are my favorite army. These sick fucks are like steroidal giants that don’t give a poo poo about walls. Since they are very expensive, they’re best used for trophy hunting or gold farming. There’s three ways to use them: as supplemental DPS in a giant/healer army; as a primary attacking force with giants running distraction; or whole hog. Hog heavy armies require you to draw out the CC troops and the king/queen.

For a distraction army, I would do 8-10 giants, 18 hogs, remainder DPS. Bring at least 1 heal spell. The idea is to drop a giant to take fire, immediately following up with your hogs. Drop giants around the perimeter of the base to draw fire, and protect the hogs. Use a heal spell if you need to.
For a whole hog army, I would do 24 hogs, remainder DPS. You’ll need 2-3 heal spells to keep them alive, 1 rage spell if you intend on going after an inferno tower. Draw out the king/queen and CC troops, then drop hogs either all in one group, or in two separate groups. Heal as needed.

Pros: This army will completely tear apart even high level bases. Oftentimes you won’t even need to drop DPS, as the hogs will kill all defenses and move on to the resources.
Cons: Expensive as gently caress, to the point that you can’t really use this army nonstop. Very vulnerable to giant bombs, CC troops, kings/queens. Misused heal spells will make this army fall apart.

:ducksiren: VIDEO:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvwDmAqvhbI

Golem based armies
Top tier land attacks are largely based around Golems. The three most common comps are Golem + Wizard + Witch (GoWiWi), Golem + Wizard + Pekka (GoWiPe), or a combination of the two (GoWiWiPe). The other weird dude that nobody wants to talk to is Golem, Valkyrie, Pekka (GoVaPe). If you want to attempt these comps, pick the mix of troops that best suits the base you'll be attacking.
These strategies are more involved than just dropping all your poo poo at once, and it's best to watch videos about the strategy you want to try. Here are some starter youtube links:

Galadon's GoWiPe guide part 1
VodkaCoC's GoWiWi guide
A long autistic interview about GoWiWiPe
GoVaPe

Pros: If do right, no can defense
Cons: Expensive and long training. Also expensive. Requires a pretty specific order of deployment that takes getting used to, and is expensive. Expensive and requires a pretty high TH level.

Bloonions/Dragoonions
Balloons and Minions, sometimes with dragons. This is probably the most common trophy hunting army between Crystal 3 and Masters leagues. Bloons are often dismissed because they’re incredibly terrible at low levels. Starting around L4 the upgrades really start to make a difference, and they become usable. For example, a balloon going from L5 to L6 gains a 50% damage increase, and a 40% HP increase. God drat.
This army will typically consist of 24-28 bloons, remainder minions. You can replace some of the troops with 2-4 dragons if you hate elixir. Drop your bloons in a long line on one or two sides of the base. Once a path is cleared, drop minions behind to clean up. Rage spells are used once the bloons are near air defenses.

Pros: Once the bloons are high enough, this is a seriously difficult attack to defend against. If any of the AD is down for upgrades, you may as well say goodnight. This attack makes the king and all cannons, mortars and bomb traps useless.
Cons: Expensive, long build time, and a well timed red balloon trap can wipe out half your force

I want to stress what the op said about asking for troops. Don't feel bad about asking for dudes; we're always happy to give you archers or wizards or whatever you want, and some people's upper level troops can help net some serious profits.

Level 5 balloons and Level 2 Minions will work just fine, actually. It's preferable if both are at a higher level, but you can still wreck enough poo poo with a heal/rage spell.

Conversely, rocking any level 1-4 balloons is a waste of elixir. I found this out the hard way several times.

edit: This link might be handy for finding out how much elixir/DE you waste when building your army or calculating how much loot you can grab in a revenge match: http://www.clashingtools.com/

If you end up liking the game, I heavily recommend dropping the :10bux: for the extra builder huts. I have all 5 and I wish I could have more. The real bottle neck is waiting for poo poo to be built, and I'm only at the mid levels. The time you wait really scales as you go up.

You can push for the 1250 trophy achievement at TH6 (5 if you're daring). This will net you 450 gems, enough for the the 3rd builder. After that you basically must drop money for another one, as the 4th is 1000 gems. I haven't used any at all (except for the 3rd builder) and have like 300. Though I suppose if you like using one of your builders to exclusively clear trees for like a month I guess you could get there eventually.

I'll also add in that if you have a LOT of excess elixir that you can't use or are saving, do yourself a favor and Que up your barracks with the most expensive troop. You can que them all up, and they'll train but if you have a full army camp, they will just chill there. What this will do is "spend" your elixir but since it's stuck in que, you can log off, come back on and then take them off of the que. There is no penalty for unqueing troops in barracks. So this will essentially hide the elixir you have and make you less likely to lose a crap load of elixir when you log off.

There is also an app, for free. I'll put the name back in as soon as I get home but it goes in depth with details on troops (like DPS, time between attacks, health, what level needed to make certain troop, damage per hit...etc.) as well as base layouts and stuff. I use it to get ideas for base layouts and get an idea of which troops to upgrade first and stuff.

Some things I would add:

- If you are tossing trophies, always lose trophies on bases with easy to kill builder huts. After a few thousand (:3) kills you are rewarded with more than 0 gems.

- When upgrading buildings, upgrading all your defenses at once is probably a bad idea with full storages

- The 3 day starting shield is somewhat long, once you can attack people you should probably steal gold as you need to. Getting attacked back will only matter if you don't spend all your stolen spoils.

- Clans have a rank system, new/member are useless, clan elders can kick members but not elders, clan leaders can kick everyone and send messages once per day to the clan. Clan elders can accept applicants and promote members to clan elder.

- When you run out of troop space, your units get queued in the barracks. When you go out looking for people to attack, the time spent looking and attacking will count towards their production. So once you start pressing the infamous 'Next' button do not stop until you find and smash someone so you maximize your army cooking time. Later on units tend to take 8+ minutes each so any savings is highly helpful.

- Share your replays. You can see what works and doesn't work through watching other peoples replays and vice versa.

- Don't donate melee units unless asked for, ranged units can fire behind walls.

- Decorations do not push back the no spawn zone. Move a regular building one square to see the red exclusion zone clearly.

- :siren: Learn to identify bases where all the available loot is in the pumps, this is a required piece of knowledge. Why bother wasting a full army when you can waste 15 dudes to steal just as much loot.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

If you're low level and don't want to donate level 1 troops, we don't really care. Just request troops and attack to get your stuff upgraded! You'll get more resources from attacking than idling anyway.

I have level 4 bloons and level 1 minions. I use the strategy sometimes when I'm tired of giant/healer/wizard, and I would say that it "kind of works ok i guess." The minions are pretty terrible but have the benefit of not needing to get through walls.

I've also tried bloons + wb + goblins (all lvl 4) and it's about the same effectiveness.

I'll echo sharing replays. One they're hilarious at times, whether its you having an awesome defense or attack against some numbskull, or you totally loving up an attack. They also go a long way in showing what works and doesn't work. Study them game tapes. I know I've had a few times where someone's shared replay has caused me to rethink a strategy and turned a slump around.

Also, please add to the Op in sirens. Only donate level 3 troops or higher. We like that you want to contribute, but the best way to do that is letting someone put in a stronger troop. Anything under level 3 will more than likely get mauled by everything most of us come up against. Don't feel bad about asking for troops if you don't have the level 3 troops to donate. It's literally nothing to us to give you some of ours to help. We'd rather give you badass troops and help you move on up quickly than you be too shy to ask for the help.

Edit: that handy dandy app is called clash guide. There is some stuff you can pay for, but the basic app is all you need.

I don't know the answer to your question, but depending on your TH level I would honestly just start over on droid. Better now than after spending several months upgrading things.

Also i recommend getting the third builder by getting to 1250 trophies. That achievement will give you enough gems for builder 3. You can then spend :10bux: on builder # 4!

I opted for the 4th because it was $5 and I have spent (wasted?) so much time with the game. I always have all four going, but I am a bit aggressive with TH upgrading.

Maybe you can elaborate on this, because I just started a couple days ago and I made a very different assessment on how I chose to progress. It seems to me that at the beginning you shouldn't care about trophies whatsoever and being raided takes very little from you. I have been rushing TH's as fast as possible because what would be a long time upgrading walls early on is like... 1 or 2 raids for a TH5. Seems to me as long as you upgrade your troops (and storage) along with your TH upgrades you should be able to smash other bases regardless of how crappy your own base defenses are.

As it stands, I've been getting the resources to afford my upgrade, spending all of it and if I get razed by someone with 10 archers, so be it. From what I've seen thus far, winning attacks is infinitely more easy than winning defenses and losing defenses is comparatively very lenient on the player.

Me either.

The problem with immediately upgrading your TH's is that you are going to upgrade past your defenses. As far as I understand it, you get attacked based on your TH level, so if you don't upgrade your defenses but keep upgrading your TH's, then you'll just be constantly stolen from after awhile. I never upgrade a TH until all my defenses (except walls) are upgraded first.

You get attacked based on your trophy number, but higher THs get less for attacking you (they're actively penalized a certain % of their loot) and generally have more expensive troops, so.

Do not neglect your air defenses.

That'll change around TH 8 or so, at least it did for me. Structures become prohibitively expensive, and I think it's better to unlock new structures that town halls get you rather than slowly grind up.

You can't go wrong either way, but that's just how I did it.

I have air defenses but they rarely get used. Nearly everyone who attacks me is using a ton of giants and a ton of archers with some other ground troops sprinkled in. Occasionally I'll see a dragon but that's about it. TH8.

In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one sat.

He chose the path of perpetual contentment.

Good air defenses are as much about the attacks that don't happen as they ones that they repel. When I'm running giant/healer and I see a base with well-packed centralized air defenses I hit next.

Well positioned and upgraded air defenses will make your base nearly unassailable to certain army compositions mainly because Giants just can't survive long enough to take them out while being bombarded by everything else without expending potions that take time to replace.

Regarding buying extra builders: I'm at TH8 with 3 builders, and even though the tesla upgrades I've got going take a week (or 8 days, it's been so long I've forgotten), there's one builder sitting idle because I don't have enough resources to upgrade anything else. A few times over the course of the year or so I've played this there have been several times I thought I'd just pony up real cash for a fourth builder, now I'm glad I didn't. Not saying it's a huge investment, just that the fourth builder would've always been idle.

Maybe it's worth it at lower TH levels or if you're a really active player, I don't know!
