The Polish Pirate posted:The newest Of Montreal album "Lousy in Sylvianbriar" is some really good psych-rock. Oh man. I was a huge, huge fan of everything of Montreal did from Cherry Peel to Hissing Fauna, but they really lost me with Skeletal Lamping. Hated it, and haven't listened to anything of theirs since. Am I missing some good stuff? I'll check out the other recommendations - plenty of stuff I've never heard of. Thanks!

They were my first (and second, and third) concert and one of my favorite bands of all time too. Now Here is Nowhere is an insanely tight album. Now I'm sad again. Man, that and Ten Silver Drops were such rad albums and the soundtrack to my college years. Their last album was just okay, but they really lost something when Ben left. Here's a cool song from an album that never was, Ben included. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef0QhO07rSg

There's a new St. Vincent song. It's pretty rocky. The album is supposed to be self-titled, and come out this year.

Here's a cool song from an album that never was, Ben included. I can't help but love the Marfa film. It's clear what they were going for (modern, American Live at Pompeii), but it's so strange and obviously unfinished. It's got some good moments in it, though, and some entertaining nonsensical subtitles. The last album has one really great song ("Last Believer") and everything else ranges from okay pop song to "The Walls Are Starting to Crack", which just sounds like a reject from a bad Roger Waters solo album. Phil Karnats isn't that great a guitarist, and his backing vocals just sound off. Ben was really something special. I could honestly go on about the Secret Machines all day. So glad other people remember/appreciate them.

I saw the Secret Machines from the front row at Bonnaroo and it was an amazing show. Garza was a monster on the drums and this is a band that I will definitely miss. I spun Now Here is Nowhere a few months back and it's still a great, great album.

I've already got tickets to see her in April and will be interested to see how this stuff translates live.

MisterWives dropped their debut EP today. It's a 6-song EP; most of the stuff they've had on their Soundcloud, but there's some new stuff there. Mandy Lee makes me think of a peppy Regina Spektor for some reason. Definitely worth a listen.

Just wanted to drop a couple more artists for you guys. I listen to a lot of XM radio and their blog radio sessions always have great new music. Here are a couple that caught my ear during my commute: Ballet School, this woman's voice is incredible. Crush really feels like something out of the 80's/early 90's. The artists cite The Cure as influences and it's readily obvious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgXwvvZNbt4 Sol Cat is really loving rad. I'm sure they're riding the wave of psychedelic sounds coming back into music these days, but that's not a bad thing. It's mellow, but not slow. I really dig the raspy vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tOl0KC_VLc Courtney Barnett, when I first heard her song Avant Gardner I didn't really like it. It's probably because I tuned in mid way and I really think this track is something you need to hear from the beginning to end for the first time before making any judgments. I enjoy her lyrics a lot, they're clever and light hearted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcnIhzaDTd0

Does anyone know Royal Canoe? They're a relatively new band from Winnipeg that's been touring a ton the last couple years. They released they're first full length "Today We're Believers" last year and they're going to be doing a North American tour with Bombay bicycle Club this spring. Hard to describe their sound but its a lot of fun. Bathtubs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zr3zb_fvGjs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5Ae-LhMIG0 New Future islands Seasons (Waiting on you). Lead singer must of had singing lessons, sadly. Chorus comes in strong, and the music is tight which sounds great overall. Trademark lows come at the end of the song, so theres hope.

Mr Ice Cream Glove posted:iTunes now is streaming the new Young the Giant album and it is really really good. I enjoy it, but I think they're really under-utilizing his awesome voice compared to their first album. It's About Time is still my hands down favourite from the new album and that song absolutely owns. Mind Over Matter is a good one as well. The rest, while good, don't have the same kind of catch to them compared to a lot of the songs on the first one. That said, still a solid album.

Yeah so like, anyone have any opinions on the new (or care at all about) Xiu Xiu? I've listened to Angel Guts: Red Classroom maybe six or seven times in the past few days. It's heavy, slow, terrifying and almost totally lacking in melody. So all in all it's a really good Xiu Xiu album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNmw0-SXtZs

Yeah, I think it's their best album in a while, and the best album I've heard this year so far. I love how intense and dark this album is, especially on tracks like "El Naco" and "Cinthya's Unisex". It reminds me of Suicide's debut album, if every song were as terrifying as "Frankie Teardrop". HorseRenoir fucked around with this message at 03:26 on Jan 25, 2014 |

Not really sure where else to post this outside of making a thread specifically for it, but is anyone else seeing The Hold Steady on this tour? I'm pumped for the Cleveland show. First time I saw them I had only been listening to them for a week (it was a charity show that I was really going to for Titus Andronicus), and had only listened to Separation Sunday and Boys and Girls in America. Listening to Almost Killed Me right now and Stay Positive later.
