for anyone mad about rap Grammys, just look at the awards for "rock". apparently the best rock song of the year was a gimmick track with Paul McCartney, and the best album was a led zeppelin live album. basically the Grammys are comically irrelevant, and not just when it comes to rap. the Grammys are a window into "popular" music that doesn't actually exist outside of top 40 radio and network television, so no, fuckin problems or new slaves was never gonna win anything

At first I saw Macklemore posted his text to Kendrick on instagram and thought that that was a really cool thing to do, but to be honest that poo poo is so self serving. Especially when he says he was going to give Kendrick his due on stage but he "froze up" and the music started playing. Oh well, I think everyone knew he was going to win anyways.

The Grammys are largely irrelevant as far as what music gets made or w/e but on a pop and sales level they do have some impact. edit-also, Macklemore winning will have an impact in how rap gets discussed/showcased, at least for awhile. If you read music commentary at all, prepare for a bunch of stuff about rap being post-racial or w/e now because some corny white dude took a bunch of meaningless awards from an organization that's roughly 10 years behind what's actually happening in music. I believe when stuff like that happens it's largely for label/business reasons. If it was an actual "G-Side" track there's likely other rights issues involved.
