I do the first fight ASAP because you can't die and I think it gives you some free experience (which is lovely, considering the rough early game on Cursed), then come back for the cave itself around 15.

Also, always kill the dude and keep the book. I don't actually know if keeping the book or not changes what acorn you get cause I've never tested it, but if you kill the dude and keep the book you get the stronger acorn. Iirc it's... physical damage, mind resist, and most importantly, movement speed. Gotta go fast.

Honestly I think the easiest way to put Cursed Aura back in as an acquirable tree would be to put it back on the coffins but give it the same embrace/suppress dialogue that an actual Cursed gets. That was always a cool thing (when you wanted it) and since it's not like most Cursed players use the tree very much you're not taking anything super-unique away from the Cursed class.

Why was it taken off the coffins in the first place? It was never a huge deal to be cursed with it and remember it gave a bit more of a reason to go for one level of chronomancy from the escorts.

At the time the whole bit about some talents being impossible to remove points from wasn't in place, so people treated it as a free generic point.

And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
"When you coming home, dad?"
"I don't know when
We'll get together then son you know we'll have a good time then."
You have been ignored for your inferiors for so long. "GOTTA GO FAST!!" they wheeze, as they repeatedly mash the same key and give themselves repetitive stress injury. "I GAVE THAT BOSS ULTRACANCER!!" they shout, as they stumble around while out of powers and energy. They snub you. They do not even talk about you. But you are superior, you know that.

You are a loving Time Lord. Your first loving ability lets you double-tap someone with two .45 caliber babalities that reduce them to an infantile state while making them explode from sheer TIME. You don't mash loving keys to walk anywhere in a fight because you were in a different dimension the entire loving time and reappear in a different spot without taking a loving turn. And it's still your loving turn, so you blast the planet with your sonic screwdriver TIME STAFF and suck them all into a singularity because you're also a young Stephen Hawking and they can't go to where you are. They stay there while you destabilize them out of the time stream so they're fading in and out of pictures like Marty McFly's mom and become ultra vulnerable to you using the miniature CERN you call a staff to deliver a QUANTUM SPIKE that causes them to explode onto everyone around them, hitting them both with the physical impact of the gore and the raw energy of the timeline of whatever poor sucker happened to be in your way today. If they are still alive you should just punt them ahead in time a few turns while you kill everything else with your time lasers and double-tap babalities.

Oh, and it takes no time to make yourself borrow some extra time like you're Justin Timberlake arm wrestling at the time fight club in that one movie, so you probably did all of that before anyone walked out of the Singularity, and you instantly moved two-thirds of a screen away before that happened because you were actually sliding through another dimension because you're also Dr. Sam Beckett. But you don't need to wait until you help some historical loser to leave because you can rip open wormholes to come and go like a hosed up space Ouroboros or an Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite who Don't Need No Man.

And you never get tired of this poo poo either. Stamina? Mana? Vim? No, all that happens when you use your abilities is that you get even crazier and hit people even harder with RAW TIME. Sometimes you mess up and go all Ashton Kutcher butterfly effect but you usually do poo poo like summon scrub enemies from the loser dimension that get in the way of your real opponents or just call down a TIME STORM that you're used to because remember you're sliding through this constantly. I hope you picked the BABALITY or the QUANTUM SPIKE or the SINGULARITY because on top of you having barely any cooldowns and can rewind yourself like a VHS and use your favorite one twice.

If for some reason you're garbage and actually manage to find something stronger than you, you can just call in its doppelganger from another dimension where he's cool and your friend like the good Jet Li, or you can pull a Joseph-Gordon Levitt and bring in your more badass Bruce Willis future self to solve all your problems and kill everything, but then you'll get sucked out of what you were doing and have to play through the Bruce Willis part later.

And, when you meet someone, no matter how fast, you have the power to make them go slow. You can stop the Murdertrain. You can go back in time to before you caught Turboebola. You are that Arnold Berrypatch bastard nerd girls make fan tumblrs about.

You are a Paradox Mage.

I need some prodigy advice for an in progress character:

http://te4.org/characters/15234/tome/66d977ec-dd41-45d9-ad4d-9c9025b77857

He's a level 40 lichform minionless necro relying on darkness. While I had the worst item luck I've ever had in ToME, Vor Armoy and backups fixed things with Vox, Boots of the Hunter, Telos, Ring of the Archlich, the Calm, and Frozen Shroud. So, I'm doing ok here. Decent shot at either finishing Telos or the Arclich set.

I'm also pretty drat beefy. About 1300 life with forgery of haze, 3 shields (4 including displacement), regen from being a higher, and Animus insta-heal. Throw in Cauterize to deal with extra burst damage.

I'm not sure what to do with my last prodigy. I'm fine with my offensive output so it's going to be another defensive one. Easy options would be Draconic form, spine of the world, or corrupted shell. An idea occurred to me though. I could get Armor or Shadows (gives you 50 armor and 50% armor hardiness when standing in dark, and makes your tile dark when you attack with darkness), and then use my spare generics on heightened senses + overseers of the nations to see fine in darkness. Is that a waste of a prodigy? I feel like corrupted shell makes more sense, but ~my flavor~

Thoughts?

Rolled a Cursed, everything going fine, then I went into the antimagic trial, forgetting that my battleaxe was arcane powered and bringing no backup weapons.

I managed to punch my way through everything up to the corruptor while roaring frenziedly at my computer and occasionally stopping to pound my chest, but I just didn't have enough to chunk the corruptor down before he blew me up. RIP Thrash Bloodspike, you didn't deserve that :smith:

My second win!

I was a skeleton brawler, and I felt like it was pretty powerful, but it was very simple.

For the first half of the game, I won every fight by putting up the billion-point skeleton damage shield and bumping things to death. For the second half I just activated my greater weapon focus ring and one-shot everything with flurry of fists.

Near the end, the only things that survived long enough for me to use all of my 3-5 attack hotkeys were an oozemancer boss in High Peak and the final bosses.

It was a pretty drat :black101: fight, and I also learned something interesting. When talents on gloves activate - for example, I was using Flamewrought for part of it (got lucky that I had a backup pair of gloves lying around when fire-immune enemies spawned) and it activates Flamespit - it counts as using a talent for the purposes of Rampaging, reducing its duration. This did not make things any easier, let me tell you.

e: also there goes any plans of a Rampage/Brawler adventurer :(

Same problem with Adventurers who want to combine Rampage with Arcane Blade tricks. I guess you could think of Rampage as a bonus gift which occasionally activates for free and just not sweat the duration loss, since all the stuff that costs you Rampage duration also tends to kill jerks.

All the Stone Warden special ones are also forbidden to the default Adventurer.

If you can think of a class concept which would have Cursed Gear at birth by default, maybe I'll be able to put it in an addon, and then it'll be available for all Adventurers.

Well, nobody ever uses grappling. Maybe make Brawlers only based on striking and dodging and stuff. Rework and move over the grappling trees into their own class based on hate, but make it way scarier than just pins and presses. Crushing torsos, suplexing, throwing enemies, wielding enemies as temporary weapons with damage/speed/stats based on their size category and other stuff, ripping limbs off for long-duration status effects. That kind of thing.

Get mad and tear off the head of a dragon-god.

Question on the Eye of the Tiger prodigy:

1. The prodigy says that "Mind crits reduce cooldown of a wild gift/psionic/afflicted talent by 2."

If I'm a Cursed that dual-wields two mindstars that deal Mind damage, do crits dealt by the mindstars count at "mind crits" or "physical crits"?

If they count as mind-crits, can they reduce the cooldown on Rampage? Would that mean that if I stack my crit-chance high enough, I can Rampage forever and ever and ever?

Something has gone badly wrong in the Ruined Dungeon.

In the northwest chamber, there's a 3x3 area where I take damage from the final guardian's Kinetic Aura. The guardian itself doesn't appear, though. It's not invisible - I can stand in the center of the aura without running into anything (and still take damage).

This isn't actually killing the dungeon for me because, as a Cursed, I can just hateport into the final room, but it is annoying. Nope, can't hateport into the final room even though I can see enemies in it. Looks like I'm not doing the ruined dungeon on this character.

I think melee attacks with mindstars count as physical attacks even if they're inflicting Mind or Nature damage. It's only when you see "Player's mind surges with critical power!" that you get a mind crit.

If you went Anti-Magic you can mind crit on your AM Shield check, but not your melee attacks.

(Doomed can mindcrit on their melee attacks if they use Gesture of Pain.)
