The Body is releasing a new album in April. It's a collaboration with The Haxan Cloak.

Usually, I'd get up in arms about a metal band working with an electronic band, but The Body's getting further and further away from metal with each album. Also, Haxan Cloak's last album is incredible.

This rules. I'm so excited.

Take this with a grain of salt but Scott Kelly's vocals a lot of time come across as a dude yelling at me and I don't understand why. That delivery reminds me of Meshuggah/Pantera or New York hardcore bands which I can almost tolerate if there are fun riffs to listen to.

Probably because they were originally a hardcore band.

I like my doom somewhere between atmospheric and riffy. Most of all it has to be heavy. Bongripper is the perfect band for me in that sense, especially with Satan Worshipping Doom. Anyone got any recommendations based on what I just said?

Wow this is definitely different than their other stuff, I'm really not sure how I feel about this. There is a lot more electronic stuff, a lot more. Very atmospheric though, I'll give them that much. This will have to grow on me. If anyone is interested in their earlier stuff check out my post history in this thread.

I wasn't really that keen on their previous work and I think the new stuff is pretty good, so I'd say they have almost certainly abandoned their tr00 KVLT underground origins and sold out. Anyone listening to The Body from this point on is just a poser.

Check out Ufomammut as well (don't start with 'Snail king', that's my least favorite): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU-ZyGK5M1w

I hadn't seen anyone mention that Coffinworm has a new album coming out March 18th, you can stream one of the new tracks here: http://www.profoundlorerecords.com/coffinworm-complete-work-on-new-album/
I'm super excited for a new Lord Mantis album, their last album is one of my all time favorites.

Mostly it's a few weird sounds on that album that turn me off from it, they kind of get to me in a weird visceral uncomfortable way. I've never had this problem before.

I don't know if this is a serious post or not but that is basically Southern Lord's entire business model and they have some great bands and have rereleased a bunch of awesome previously OOP records. Who cares who else listens to the music if it's good.

Haha it was a serious post, I'm just clueless when it comes to music fanbases but I guess you are right, it really doesn't matter who else listens to them. Also now that I check out Southern Lord's record label they have a lot of bands which I enjoy.

The important thing is to listen to bands that nobody else listens to, and if you do happen to meet someone who likes the same bands you like, make sure to establish your superiority by telling them how much longer you've been listening to them and all their influences. This is the best way to make new friends at shows.

Acceptable doom/sludge/stoner show fashion: Jeans, black T-shirt, band T-shirt (but not one of the bands playing that night), if doom wear plaid, converse shoes, a beard, and look of disinterest and/or disdain no matter what is going on.

Doom/stoner shows are the best because most of the peacocking and teenagers and drama are absent (or way muted). It's just a bunch of 20-somethings and up working on their beards, beers, and beer guts talking about which combinations of Sleep/High On Fire/Om they've seen recently and which were loudest. By and far away the best genre for live shows.

This is true, doom shows are in my experience really friendly. I like hardcore shows too even though it's not really a genre I listen to on record. You get more posturing but there's loads of energy and the bands normally interact a lot more with the audience. Also the mosh pits are nicer - at metal shows that have them it seems like there are always a few dickheads trying to hurt people.

Sleep and Terror are probably two of the bands I've most enjoyed live but they had completely different atmospheres.

Henchman of Santa

In my experience, mosh pits at hardcore shows are terrible. Hardcore dancers throwing punches and spin-kicks everywhere are just embarrassing and they really don't give a poo poo if you don't want to participate. Most metal crowds are chiller about it.

On this note - I found myself chuckling at teenagers who try to mosh when doom/stoner bands open for bands that are less doomish, particularly Royal Thunder opening for Baroness, and Windhand opening for Kvelertak (though I suppose for the latter, High on Fire was the headliner so the majority of the crowd was expecting the wall of sound). Eventually it devolves into the rhythmic headbanging but the initial attempt at moshing is priceless.

Not doom at all but when I saw Immolation, there were like six people in front of the stage for the opening act, and one really tall social outcast who looked like he walked out of Jhonen Vasquez comic tried shoving everyone to get a pit going and it failed. There was something of a pit for Jungle Rot and then everyone just watched Immolation in awe more than anything. It was weird.

I hope this isn't crossing the boundaries or whatever, but what about neo-folk? I just found out about King Dude and Of The Wand & The Moon. They are both slightly similar to Death in June and to a lesser extent, Current 93. Are there some doomy sounding folk bands?

EDIT - I already know about the Lion's Daughter Indian Blanket album
