We've actually really been enjoying lower point games at WGoL of late. It presents a whole new host of difficulties, and the listbuilding factor of 'Which toys can I afford?' seems to result in people making more considered plays when a unit at 300 is not as crucial element at 200. Also every other show in town tends to be 300, and variety is the spice of wargaming life!

We are still trying to get it bumped up to 250 and still be official, in fairness. C'mon, CB. Let me have this. I promise to run a 400 point one another time.

What makes the spitfire so much better than a combi rifle? Looks like it just does +1DMG and +1Burst?

I am playing Ariadna, and we can't get MSV L2 for our units (best we get is a few MSV 1's). What good options do I have to take against a force which has O.D.D. on a lot of it's units? Mainly thinking units like the Aleph Myrmidon's. Template weapons I guess, so chain rifles and light flamethrowers? Forward Observers who can fluke a marking roll and then call in the Traktor Mul weapons?

Chain/smoke Galwegians and LFT Chasseurs, yes. Cameronians too. If you're playing a vanilla list, an Antipode pack might be fun (keep their controller in reserve for added hilarity).

And watch out for AD troops. Remember that an AD unit dropped behind your lines means that all your Impetuous stuff turns around and wastes a shitton of orders (fun to watch though :haw:).

Also, Ariadna can also lay a ton of mines! Close combat also gives no fucks about O.D.D. if you can make it there.

Edit: Although, if we're talking about Myrmidons they are MA3...

But yeah, definitely you have to play differently to the rest as Ariadna vs ODD heavy lists. Don't be afraid of multiple LFT hitsquads and mine abuse. Especially the latter.

MA3 is already a normal roll, berserk doesn't stop it from going first. You still get the +9 but you have to survive.

Yeah, since the Domaru are 2 wounds it's (sometimes) okay that they swing first should the chain rifle not do the job! This makes me want to put together a JSA Domaru link list.

Edit: Vet Kazaks would also be good as they come with a light flamethrower, better armour and stats, and Ch: Mimetism. Drawback is they do cost a bunch and also have main weapons which are BS based.

Aside from range, that +1 burst is big. I think that burst is the single best stat in the game, with the possible exception of going from 1 wound to 2 on a model.

The more I look at the new NeoTerra starter, the more I wish I went down that sect instead of Military Orders. I'd pick up that pack if there was just a bit more crossover between the two sects. I guess I could always go Vanilla PanO, but that's opening up a pretty big can of worms and I don't think I'd trust myself to not pick up at least one of everything.

Have my 200pt game coming up vs Yu Jing. I think it's a mission in the campaign where you might need a Doctor, Hacker or Engineer to accomplish certain things, not exactly sure.

I play Ariadna, but I am not sure exactly which way I should go. This will be my 3rd game, does anyone have any pointers? I was thinking perhaps Isobel McGregor as a hacker, a Kazak Doktor and perhaps an Engineer if I want to take Traktor Mul's. I am not sure how I should approach fighting vs Yu Jing. I think he plays Imperial Service as a Sectorial, whereas I usually don't go Sectorial at all (I like Kazaks and I am waiting for the possibility of being a Kazak Sectorial coming in the new book).

Any hints/tips for what I might need to take? Any advice is appreciated!

Sounds like an ITS style mission then.

If you want to go the Traktor Mul route, it may be worth it to pack a few Forward Observers, as they count as specialists for objective purposes and can mark enemy units for guided artillery.

Isobel is ok, but Ariadna are fairly hack proof, so she'd only be there to counter hack any offensive hacking on your Muls or stop enemy guided missile (or potentially screw up drop troopers, which ISS don't have?).

As for any army specific line ups, I'm not sure, Yu Jing have a few HI options that are pretty tough to bring down, so packing something like a Tank Hunter may help. At 200 pts Ariadna can field quite a few units, so you probably should have a number advantage. Not knowledgeable enough about ISS to give any specific match up advice, but as long as you pack a good list you should be fine. The armies are all really balanced in Infinity, and I don't believe any force really fucks over another one.

Just remember that an ITS missions taking objectives are everything, so even if you can't hold up in a head to head firefight, tactical positioning and using your (hopefully) number advantage to hold points can win you the game.

Yeah man. :argh:

It's a fair point though buddy, I've been opting to skip 5 man link teams for a while as when I was learning I always took 5 man teams and it can be surprising what you give up in list design to take them. +3 BS is huge, but not always vital I find.

My only possible change with the list is changing the Lt from Intruder to a Wildcat so I can get safer use out of him if I need it. I'll have to play around with it.

I was basically looking to light up a bunch of his dudes with the FO's and then bomb them back to the stone age with my Traktor Mul's. The scenario special objectives I rolled were Sabotage and Experimental Drug.

He brought a combined army force which had a doctor, an engineer, a hacker and a few other dudes, one who paradropped into location on his first turn, oh yeah and an AVATAR. I couldn't touch the bloody thing. None of my dudes had enough BS to go up against it's cover save + o.d.d. and he kept spec firing heavy grenades at all my dudes in cover, blasting them to bits. My Irmandinho (who are awesome for 10 points) got an auto medkit as his booty, and with the amount of orders I had made it to his objective and blew it up. He laid down a smoke grenade so my 112 could get to and do his heal on a fallen Kazak, but it left just enough of a corridor so the dude had the slightest sliver of a shot and killed him with 2 wounds before he could get there. No one could get a bead on the Avatar for an FO until my last turn, but I only had the frag shot left available and it didn't break the armour. The only damage I did all game was an ARO shot with my Vet Kazak's HMG on the Avatar, but it wasn't enough. Those things are hideous. I took Isobella instead of the Merc. Hacker and regretted it. With smoke from the Irmandinho, she could of shot a marker and attempted a hack to disable the Avatar, allowing me to move further forward. But I chose Isobella because well she is Ariadna and has a T2 rifle. He eventually got the Avatar all the way across the field and destroyed everything except for my last FO who managed to flash pulse him in the eye. So one 12pt Kazak didn't die out of 200 pts. Ugh.

If I knew it was Combined I might have taken a different force. As it was I went in with a completely different game plan and lost. If I had to build a list to go against his I probably would have packed it with a zouaves with LGL's, foxy launchers, infiltrators, a bunch of smoke grenades, Irmandinho's (they rule, seriously), a Dog-Warrior, Uxia and SAS with chain rifle and grenades and just spec-shot LGL templates onto his head, because -6 is easier to hit than -9 or 12, or even just obscured his view with smoke grenades and then tried for a remote hack and shut him down, then move everyone up to bomb the gently caress out of the building and anyone inside it who attempted to get to the Avatar.

Also, my rolling was absolutely shocking. I didn't have much chance of better than 4's for the most of it, but still, couldn't make armour saves, couldn't make ph's rolls, couldn't manage anything. His list was pretty much the antithesis of mine all the way round.

A good game and I learnt a lot, I will just need to be more considerate of what I am going up against in other games.

A pack of Antipodes can dismantle an Avatar surprisingly easily. Also, Tankhunter from camo (if it's not in cover).

Also, how the hell did he afford a hacker with that? 200 points is Avatar + Medtech + 2 Batroids + 1 Imetron.

Also also: if you were expecting ISS, what's your defense from a HMG Garuda?
