I have to give Ford the benefit of the doubt here, not having driven either cars. I really doubt the Mercedes of that era were really anything to write home about either.
My parents had two 1970s Mercedes and they were both built like tanks, were pretty quiet to drive and handled very nicely. Sure since they were getting on for 20 years old some things were starting to fail on them, like the air con, but I think they would've easily been in better condition than a 1970s Ford.

For real. Comparing a 70's Ford, especially the Granada, to a period Mercedes is silly. Surprisingly, the Seville and Cimarron make the grade either.

The Mark VII was probably the first domestic car that even came close, but that's my opinion.

I've seen a total of one on CL the past few years and it was going for way too much. Although, everything seems to be going for way too much on there these days.

$3500 for a generic malaise era Mopar sedan with a missing wheel and almost no paint left. How much longer will this trend in malaise era cars going for thousands continue? If you're going to own a classic car that gets less than 10mpg, it should at least look good and/or go fast. These are neither of those.

Mopars in general almost ALWAYS carry a premium compared to their GM/Ford siblings. Partially because there were far fewer of them made.

Isn't that the era of the 727 torqueflight? If so, that's the perfect transmission and no way you are going to kill it. Snag a crank from a Buick 300 and make a stroker motor. :getin:

I get a little sad every time I see a Fiero for sale. Several months ago an 88' Formula Fireo popped up for sale about 20 minutes from me. 70k miles, 5-speed, paint looked great, everything looked great for what it was. $1900 OBO. Yeah, someone bought it a couple hours before I was going to go get it.

Well, there is a 560sl sitting in my driveway. It is one of at least 5 in my neighborhood. I have never seen a Granada in my life.
I guess that is a pretty good difference. Well, that and twice as much horsepower and a better transmission and real leather and airbags and the ability to turn and I could go on.

All things considered, modern domestics are actually much closer in quality today than they were 30 years ago.

Registered as an RV. My understanding is that a lot of the bus-sized RVs are in fact built on heavy duty chassis, but because they're not set up to haul bulk cargo, their actual weight going down the road is more on the scale of a UHaul, not an actual semi or bus.

Doesn't mean I agree with it, though, but I also wish they'd make every dickbag in a Suburban / F350 get an extra endorsement on their license too.
