Meyers was always flat and boring on SNL too. He had no personality.

The pacing just felt unnatural, for whatever reason it comes across way different than when he's sitting behind a desk with a nifty graphic to the side. I think we're still counting bodies.

Didn't seem to come back from the hiatus with much gusto, but it's only one episode and they can't all be winners. Even though it doesn't always hit, I really like the show. It's the first time since way back when Conan was on Late Night that I want to make sure and catch every episode of a talk show. I still enjoy Conan on TBS, but I don't feel bad if I happen to miss a few days.

I'm actually kinda excited for Late Night tonight, partially because I missed last night and want to see how Meyers does, and partially because I think it's hilarious that they have Kanye West and Russell Wilson, who are on complete opposites of the "How Scary Is That Black Person" dichotomy.

I'm still not sure how that's going to translate to this format. If they're trying to play things as conventional as they looked last night, I don't know if it's going to work. At the very least he's in need of a sidekick.

I dunno why I'm giving Seth Meyers a chance when over on Channel 2 I can watch a pantomime horse and a gay skeleton robot banter back and forth. In other words... rear end Möde!. Fred Armisen has been funny since next to never.

I saw Anchorman 2 in theaters and loved it but I may go see this R-rated version in theaters because that clip he showed was amazing and I'm sure it'll be good for at least several laughs. e: I'm watching tonight's Seth Meyers and it's just no fun. His monologue fell mostly flat for me, Fred Armisen is unfunny and a lovely band leader, his set isn't charming at all, the interview chair is stupid close to his desk, he did the audience plant thing that Conan does, and maybe other late night hosts do it too, but it wasn't funny at all here, he's just a standard interviewer at best, etc. I mean this is only his second show, so maybe it just hasn't found its voice yet, but after seeing this, it seems like the type of show I'm only going to watch when there's a guest on that I really want to see unless I start hearing good reviews about it in the future that make me want to tune in. Kanye totally stole the show in this episode, as he often does. Rageaholic fucked around with this message at 11:03 on Feb 26, 2014 |

Y'all are nuts, Seth's monologue was fine. And then he got a great, serious and likeable interview out of Kanye. Let me repeat that, in case your heads are still stuck in SNL a decade ago like they've been lately about Fred Armisen, Jimmy Fallon, and Seth Meyers: Seth Meyers got a great, serious and likeable interview out of Kanye West. Seriously get your minds right. If nothing else, respect that Seth's got a Stefon nesting doll on his desk.

Hannibal Smith posted:Biggest disappointment for me was that he didn't have an in-studio comedian for a guest. Normally the guests are my least favorite part of talk shows, but Pete has such a unique way of interacting with them that they're usually the highlight of the show. I also appreciate that his monologue isn't just ten minutes of, "Hey, did you hear about this?" I really like his podcast. It's usually three hours or so of him having rather unique conversations with people, usually about sex and religion among other things. Check it out, it's great.

There's so much going on in late night right now, I wish someone would knock up a super cut of the bits worth watching from Fallon, Kimmel, Conan, Craig, Myers and Letterman each night. I never know what to actually watch, unless I see a clip going huge on Facebook or something.

I am really not feeling the remote locations for the new Pete Holmes interviews this week, either. Unfortunately, from an interview I read recently, it appears that is the format they are going to be using now, at least for the time being. I was dissappointed to notice last night, as they were panning away for commercial, that the chairs had been removed from the interview area on the stage. I hope that changes. Considering he hasn't done any on-set skits so far this week, it's almost like what's the point of having the set? Speaking of, I think the original set looked WAY sharper than this new one, which seems alot more boring and uninteresting. I'm just hoping that maybe they had a surplus of remote peices when the new season started and will return to the original format soon.

Seth's monologue has been flat for two shows for sure. But I thought the comedy bits were pretty good, especially the audience one in the second episode. Both of the bits reminded me of Conan in the best way. And I think so far Seth has proven to be a really good interviewer. He's a bit more quick witted than most people that do this job and it shows.

I caught Seth last night for the first time since that abysmal first episode and I have to admit, he looked much, much better. I still fell asleep before the guests, but I dare say I enjoyed what I did see. Unfortunately, that makes the Fred Armissen band that much worse for me now. They are awful, what were they thinking giving him that job? That theme song has to be the worst I've heard on any show, the band can't seem to play anything except generic 90's high school garage rock and the desk chat bits are irritating at best. I guess I'm just spoiled from almost every other late night show now where that dynamic is done a billion times better. Fred Armissen has all the charisma and entertainment value of a dish rag in this role. Whew, sorry to rant, but man what a huge missed opportunity.

I've heard that Sara Bareilles song about a dozen times and was absolutely blown away by it on Fallon tonight. I can't get over how much having The Roots on it helped. I haven't watched a ton of Fallon, but the Roots are easily reason enough to watch regularly.

Couple thoughts about Late Night: *The band sucks but maybe because it's generic, vary the music. *Seth's monologues are bad but he is actually a funny story teller, I wish they went with that 1st instead of the monologue. *Seth is a pretty good interviewer it would seem. That's all I got.
