Stop at book one, or book four.

Book 2 is a slump since it's all buildup.

If you're into cosmere stuff you'll have to read Mistborn anyway since some major developments happen there.

Also the sanderson avalanche is more like "book three is the sanderson avalanche" rather than "a sanderson avalanche happens in book three"

Heh, there's actually a word for this? I remember reading Way Of Kings and commenting to my wife after I finished that it was awesome but it felt like a shitload of stuff happened in the last 10% of the book.

Yes, that's the term. He's very well known for it.

He's getting better about putting minor climaxes here and there. Way of Kings was one of his best in that regard.

BranSan has even commented that he knows it's a thing he does and he's trying to fix it. He laughed at the term.

Also, read all of Mistborn. All four books - though the fourth book has completely different characters. You get some amazing background characters rise to awesomeness in book three :swoon:Spook:swoon:

I kind of like the Sanderson avalanche, to a degree. It felt wonderful in Way of Kings, but in, say, Elantris or Warbreaker...it's a bit more of a tossup.

It's great when I hit it early on in the day. If not, it becomes "just one more chapter" until 4am or some ridiculous hour.

I've only listened to the Mistborn trilogy so far but every time I go to audible.com I add more of his stuff to my wishlist. It definitely seems like he could make a series out of each of his books.

Well you're in luck because the second book of Stormlight is coming out next week (on audible as well). I listened to The Way of Kings on audible twice last month and loved it. Way better than Mistborn imho, his parkour-porn sequences were toned down a lot from Mistborn as well.

If you guys are in to additional random paging through the book, amazon has preview pages for the hardcover version. Seems to be randomly distributed through the book, and include some fairly extreme spoiler pages. Not for those who don't want to be spoiled.

The Way of Kings Reread on tor.com still has a couple of chapters left. Seriously? They're not going to have the whole thing published before the next book comes out?

Then again, I suppose the last couple of chapters were momentous enough that I mostly remember how they went. But I was pretty stoked to read about the final battle again! :(
