It reminds me of Imogen Heap and Bon Iver, which seems like an interesting direction to take the next record in. I thought the track was just okay, though; it felt like a long buildup to an underwhelming payoff.

Yeah, wow, that absolutely sounds like Bon Iver, at least vocally :stare: And I like it!

But if that's the route they're taking, it's certainly more exciting than what they've been doing for the last several years. I hope it's not just a one-off. If the rest of the new album doesn't sound like this, that would be pretty strange.

Also, I don't think this got posted yesterday, but The Horrors have a new song out called I See You:

A Coldplay song sounds derivative of another artist? What an unprecedented scandal. How can Coldplay betray their many fans by failing to keep up their high standard for interesting, original music.

Thank you for the hint! I really, really like her music! :3: I get the feeling though that her songs make most sense to me if I listen to them in order as they appear on the album. They somehow seem more coherent that way. Not that it takes anything away from them!

Julia Holter is the bomb and ekstasis is an incredible album.

In the same room, marienbad, and goddess eyes II are my fav songs and I'm really happy that she made that album.

Full album. Those two songs, plus red eyes, disappearing, and in reverse are my favorite songs as of right now. Red eyes is probably one of the best songs released this year for me at least.

I don't actually care that Coldplay is unoriginal, it just annoys me that they're boring. If you're going to steal music at least have a little fun. Rip off James Brown or something.

St Vincent's album's been out for a few days now. Okay a few weeks but streaming doesn't count because not FLAC, right? :smuggo:

I got to see her in London last Thursday. If you're still not sure whether or not you should be buying tickets for when she's near you, stop what you're doing and buy those drat tickets. You're in for a good show. Also check her out on the Colbert Report from earlier this week.

Few spoilers:
There wasn't any Love This Giant stuff. Entire setlist was stuff from her own albums. Encore ended with slightly extended Your Lips Are Red, also there was Krokodil in which she fell over a lot on the stage but no stagedive (closest thing was putting one foot on the barrier and letting people touch her guitar). Pretty much all songs extended with a guitar solo of some kind if it didn't have one already. Thought Marrow was actually shortened.

Finger-in-plug-socket hairdo was equipped.

The show's not static like her last few tours. David Byrne's taught her some tricks and there's a bit of choreography and showmanship.

Supposedly Carrie Brownstein was in the audience too but I don't know anything about that.

Incidentally, here's David Byrne sort-of rapping.

I saw St. Vincent last night and attended that event where David Byrne performed "Just a Friend" the night before. St. Vincent's theatrics definitely appeared to be Byrne-influenced and it all seemed to loosely reflect to the whole Digital Witness moniker of the tour. For those one the fence about catching these live shows, I second the recommendation for checking it out.

David Byrne covering Biz Markie wasn't just a completely random thing, though. The event where it happened was held to create awareness of how royalties for songs played on terrestrial radio don't go to the song performers or session musicians; only the songwriters. All the songs performed that night were songs that were popularized by artists whose songs don't generate royalties for them when played on the radio, like "Wild Thing" and "Hanging on the Telephone."

Ooh you lucky sod. I pine to see David Byrne again - I've only seen him so far on the Love This Giant tour.

May actually travel all the way to Glasgow for St Vincent again in May. Not too sure yet. But it'd definitely be worth it.

Yes I did. I think it's a more typical style and is less interesting. I really enjoyed the malaise and frustration of Attack on Memory, but that only came together with the whole album so maybe my judgment is premature.

I'm very, very excited about one my favourite bands releasing a new album after years and years of seeming inactivity: Muxika 77, formerly also Music 77. The are a small Swedish band, and they used to have two albums out, which you can apparently only really get as digital downloads now. They have some fantastic songs and a very peculiar sound; however, it's quite tricky to find their songs online now. Nevertheless, their soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/muxika77) has one song from each album, and I really like the "new" song The Mountain (that has been their new song for a few years now) rather a lot. I'm glad they haven't given up or died in the process, and maybe, perhaps, they'll finally play somewhere where I can actually go see them.

Somehow, they are also the epitome of :sweden: for me.
