I had expected it to be cross generation since Rocksteady was hiring UE3 programmers. It looks like they're running on heavily modified Unreal tech.

Assuming this isn't homicidal Tim Burton Batman, I have to wonder if Rocksteady will even let you run over enemies since Batman usually knocks people out. Or they could place convenient roadblocks/tank traps/narrow alleys near places with enemies which force Batman to leave his car and beat people up on foot.

What I am expecting is something like they showed in the trailer: There are enemy areas. When driving through them you get a button prompt to leap out and start fighting, otherwise they scatter/dive out of the way. I don't think they'll let you drive over dudes and I hope to god they don't mandate you hop out of the Batcar every time you encounter an enemy.

It was kind of ridiculous they weren't around at all in Origins, and it shouldnt be that hard since Arkham City sorta did that with the few political prisoners around that you couldnt fight and just hung around huddled like homeless dudes but also giving funny reactions whenever batman just walks on by.

The excerpt from GI above said the city's been evacuated. Origins had curfew, now Knight has a city-wide evacuation. I don't know why anyone lives in Gotham.

Glad that this is at least Rocksteady's last Batman game. It sucks to see good developers tied to one franchise. Hopefully the jump to next-gen did them so good, and they can give this game some more variety other than cosmetic differences.

Batman hangs out there and he's so cool! Sure you gotta deal with someone poisoning/freezing/evaporating/being a gator and swimming on/stealing the water supply every other tuesday, and a part of a city being overrun by villains every couple of days, plus the times Darkseid decides to start his invasion there and all the banks being moneyholes, but hey, you get to see Batman from your window every now and then.

I'm probably alone in this, but I'm really disappointed at the lack of multiplayer. It's rough around the edges, but Origin's multiplayer was a fantastic idea and despite some issues still pretty fun in execution, easily the most entertaining part of Origins to me. I'd have loved to see the new game revisit is and try to iron out some of the problems with it, even if it was SplashDamage developing the multiplayer again.

Right? Imagine you're just sitting there reaching over for your remote and Superman smashes right through it and your couch and out the other side because Doomsday fuckoff punched him through your apartment. There's no way your insurance is covering anything. At least with Gotham you might luck out and be kidnapped by Kite Man or the Film Freak and it's just an annoyance until his face is punched in.

Most of the time in Gotham unless you hold a particularly interesting job you're probably just going to get mugged as the worst crime you'll face. In Metropolis you'd be lucky not to get mind-obliterated by an alien parasite or have your life force stolen from your body every time you go to the grocery store.

If you don't have a retirement home in Strange Fire Area you are missing out.

I'm of two minds on this. It's good that Rocksteady has a very clear goal in mind making the game and doesn't want multiplayer getting in the way of a solid single player experience, and good on WB for not mandating Rocksteady tack something on they aren't comfortable with. However, the Batman series has so much multiplayer potential and I hope it's something whatever dev takes over the series next (WB Montreal probably) explores. After Arkham Knight comes out and there's a full size Gotham City created to build upon I hope we get a GTA style street level crime game. GTA Online is a good starting point in terms of game style; let players build their own character and choose a villain to hench for (each with their own in-game perks) and carry out missions and robberies to work their way up the food chain while players who choose the hero roles roam around the city as Batman and Robin stopping crimes in progress and arresting criminals.

Or hell, just keep it simple and expand upon Invisible Predator Online, or as I like to call it 'Henchman Dressup Simulator'. :v:

Edit: The hostages in the subway car in Arkham: Origins bickering over whether Batman is here to save them or kill them was pretty great, as an example, even if the one lady apparently commuted from Boston.

It feels contrived to be Batman in Gotham without Gothamites. I haven't played Origins yet, but while the first two Arkhams nailed the experience of being Batman in so many ways, some things missing were meeting Gordon under the Batsignal, dropping down to save civilians from criminals, and so on. I think the political prisoners in Arkham City were an attempt to add that element.

I've never played them. My guess is there isn't a good solution for when the player tries to troll civilians by blocking traffic, walking into people, etc. WB probably wouldn't let Batman be portrayed doing things he wouldn't do. No YouTube videos of rear end in a top hat Batman.
