Crosspost from SAS Here's a history of supermodifieds. Some period supermod footage. Oval racing isn't popular really outside of the US, Canada or Australia, but these are the cars the rest of the world never sees. This is what happens when rules are relaxed and a car is built specifically for oval racing. It's what Indy cars would have turned into had the rear engine F1 cars never come to the US and Indy racing stayed primarily on ovals. Nothing trumps these on a half mile or shorter track, not even an F1 car.

From my limited knowledge of brake dynamics, they (there are disc brakes on the GT40, right?) squeal as the piston and backing plate of the pad enter some resonant frequency. How this relates to the heat of the pad and disc I have no idea.
