My partner and I got our RuCap of Episode 3 finally up.

My partner says he really understands why Adore was safe, and I think he has an interesting perspective.

quote:

but [April] still looked far worse in the final product than Adore did

I think that is largely it too, but I still love April and everything she does (C'mon, Ariel realness during the mini-challenge, that was awesome), and I don't understand why Michelle and Ru did not give her feedback even when she asked for it. With other queens they were more than willing to help out. It was total nonsense.

It reads like a book report for a book you hate. You're trying very hard to use a voice in your writing that isn't your own. Also you misspelled DeLorean - although your piece created a great deal of dolor so maybe you're not far off! ;)

Aww, poor April. One day, Puerto Rico. But miss Trinity TURNT it out, although that was another case of a song hand picked to favor one queen over the other.

Looks like Bianca will be Judge Judy (great call on her part), and Adore as Anna Nicole. Milk is doing Julia Child and Ben is Maggie Smith. Trinity had pink hair so probably Nicki Minaj, Gia is (surprise) Kim Kardashian, and I have no idea what Joslyn's is. It actually looks a bit like Tatianna. Laganja has a hat and shades, might be another Gaga. And did I clock Darienne as Paula Deen?!?!?! :swoon: I didn't see any hysterically mischosen characters present, although it looks like Courtney is doing Fran Drescher, and her accent work in the horror challenge was...not ideal. :ohdear:

Snatch spoiler: I saw a suggestion that Laganja is Rachel Zoe.

I tend to hate the musical/skit-like challenges, but credit to this season's girls 'cause they turnt it out. A couple awkward things but nobody was bad and it was more entertaining than cringy this year!

Poor April. I wanted to see Gia go home.

Gia- GO HOME.

Adore- Better put that waist in a cinch, gurl. Not so fond of her gown, want to see more pretty trash diva.

Milk- I wouldn't bat a lash if Milk went home for being herself. Milk is the more original queen to her look than Sharon is imo. GO MILK!

Bianca- I love you. I could listen to you all day. :allears: The more I look at Bianca in drag, the more I realize it makes her look YEARS younger. That bitch can beat her mug.

TKB- If you can take the confidence in your lipsync, and put it in your overall spirit for being in the competition, that be great. I'm getting Akasha vibes from Season 1!

Ben- The shoulder piece was a bit much, maybe a sleeve of rhinestones would have been more elegant? I want to go see Ben perform live. :sigh:

Laganja- Poor girl. Just when you think you're family is supportive, there is always that ceiling that you hit. Some parents just can't handle seeing their little babies grow, and fly away from the nest.

Vivienne Pinay- (Oh wait, Joslyn Fox. MY BAD) Hair was a little thirsty, but overall, I liked your look better than Gia's. I agree on the whole 'ignorant' thing, only because one queen bashing another queen over 'You're not ________ drag' is infuriating. "Aren't we all just a bunch of clowns, anyway?"

MDL- Girl, you were super adorbs in that dress. LOVE IT~

Courtney- You won, but that whole 'I know it all' act is getting old with me. Girl needs to lay off the drugs, and show some vulnerability already.

Trinity did do great on the runway, but her attitude is really just killing me. The girls who always complain about how this isn't what they do, and how they aren't good at this, they just need to get with the program and just get over it and do it.

I don't really understand what happened with April. I thought she was one of the more talented girls there, and definitely the fishiest even while playing the butch queen, but the judges just seemed to be coming for her the whole time. The editing just didn't show the justification for their harshness to me.

I just find it amusing, but I'm crazy. Seems to have more performance chops than I expected, too.

Michelle's Whatcha Packin' with April is up, and, like Vivacious before her, she names Dela as one of the Girls to Beat. Ben's kinda been flying under the radar, as she doesn't seem to have had the same kind of editing spotlight that others have had. Wouldn't be surprised if she makes it to the Top 3.

I live for Bianca. Joslyn is surprisingly excellent and Ben is wonderful always.

Courtney is like a shady ninja. There wasn't much of it this time around but when I rewatched the previous eps I noticed she sometimes drops little reads like its nothing and half the time no one notices except maybe the girl being read. Masterful :allears:

I think I'd like Gia a lot if she never opened her mouth. Unfortunately she never shuts it so I'd love to see her go home (although I'm sure she'll put up one hell of a fight, that bitch can perform).

Laganja has gotten on my last nerve. I've been trying to ignore the way she talks and acts because I figured it was out of lack of confidence in the hopes the poor child would get a clue eventually but that untucked sealed it for me. Just shut the hell up already gurrrrl. Also thinking pot is cool when you are out of highschool is sad. Yeah, I said it.

Trinity is another great performer but god is her defensiveness grating. It's OK to be a perfectionist but she wont take any criticism even after asking for it!

Those three are the only ones I wouldn't mind seeing sent home but I know each one of them can turn out a LSFYL so we'll have to wait and see. This season is so strong, every other elimination is just going to make me sad. April :(

Those 10 minute previews are making the wait so much worse :derp:

He's soooo dreamy...

Another week, another gimmick from Milk. Pinocchio was at least coherent, in that the nose was an extension of the outfit, but the beard and the pregnancy bump felt like she came up with the general looks and then tacked those on to make 'em stranger. I don't need fish, I like comedy and weird, but to me it's feeling too much like a crutch.

Gia needs to stick around. Not because she's a good drag queen, but because she's a good reality show character. Mean as hell and twice as dumb, she exists almost entirely to be material for Bianca, and I support that. I hate her, and that's totally needed in a season where almost everyone else is likable.

Trinity's going home soon and I have nothing else to say about her except it can't be soon enough.

Laganja is a complete wreck, but she's boring as hell when she isn't breaking down. She's also mediocre on the runway. Go home.

Courtney continues to act like the pop star in a room full of drag queens, and it's working very, very well so far. She's clearly more comfortable in her own skin than just about anyone else there and that confidence shows.

Bianca is the one to beat.

Adore is all over the place. When she's good, she's REALLY good, and when she's bad she's a loving wreck. But her bratty personality is fully formed and flawlessly executed, and that (combined with her pipes) is why she's still here despite clearly being an amateur.

Ben is a total non-entity for me right now. Clearly talented on stage, but not much of a character. Hoping we get to see more of her.

Darienne: STOP DRESSING LIKE THAT

Edit: Oh yeah, Joslyn is a thing too, isn't she? Well, uh... cute in a puppy sort of way.

Trinity's lipsync was pretty great, but I'm still sad to see April go. Her singing was pretty bad, but she did what she could and seemed to have so much fun with it. I guess it's too bad that there've been two challenges in a row that didn't play to her strengths at all. She also comes across very well in the Whatcha Packin' video posted above.

Laganja was insufferable during Untucked. Nobody over the age of fourteen should unironically go for a "I'm a bird, I'll spread my wings" speech. So far she hasn't served up anything I enjoyed, and her talking heads and the tired catchphrases are incredibly annoying.

Man, I would pay cash to just sucker punch Gia Gunn in that wonky eye, but she's not necessarily wrong to call out Milk. However the lovely red ribbon Aids pendant was just such a perfect loving Awards Show touch that was lost in the shuffle. It's like she wore that pregnancy belly just hoping there'd be a shot of her in Untucked chugging down her drink with it on.

I love Bianca, but for fuckssakes, stop finishing every joke with "It's a joke." That's just a lack of confidence (the Whitesnake video pull was exquisite, though).

April didn't look like she could move in her dress, which, not being a drag queen, struck me as a rookie mistake. I don't know poo poo from shinola, but I would think just by default as a queen I would want to be able to dance in my outfits. In any case, Chaka Khan was so perfect for Trinity (who is quite tiresome, no?) that it prolly didn't matter what April wore - Trin had this one in the bag.

She's very affected; and has self-esteem issues. If her and Adore are this insecure and constantly on the brink of a meltdown off the show, then they must be a gruesome twosome to be around.

This may be premature, and I don't really remember season 2, but Joslyn kinda reminds me of Tatianna in that she may not be that polished, and her looks are more than a little tacky, but there's a game quality about her that if you give her a challenge she'll do it, no matter how inexperienced she may be. I remember Jessica Wild also was really plucky. I'm growing to like Joslyn; she's not drag superstar material, but she's fun to have around.

Can I say something that might be controversial? The bloom is off Milk's rose for me. I dunno, she's just not bringing it for me the way I hoped she would. Her performances have seemed a tad underwhelming, and I know she can do better with the makeup - this look was subpar and didn't really fit the requirements of the challenge. The aids ribbon coulda been more prominent, or maybe a shitload of ribbons, something to humor it up. But I'm optimistic all the same; Alaska was unsteady when she started and then got her footing by the Snatch Game; so maybe Milk just hasn't found her groove.

FYI there's usually a couple of queens every season whose mental poo poo is most definitely not together, and they almost always come out of it with good relationships with everyone. The whole on-set environment is a pressure cooker, so while the softer cookies start crumbling pretty drat fast, but they're usually much more than half-baked out of the oven.

With some exceptions.

quote:

Can I say something that might be controversial? The bloom is off Milk's rose for me.

You are not alone. Milk has been doing a bunch of avant-garde poo poo, but she hasn't really gotten the spotlight no matter what she tries. I'm not 100% convinced it's 100% good poo poo either; the make-up job in this episode looked way too similar to Trinity's. Milk is sliding to the back of the pack, and not in a dark horse way. Speaking of which:

quote:

I'm growing to like Joslyn; she's not drag superstar material, but she's fun to have around.

Tati, Jessica, and Joslyn (and Alyssa Edwards, for that matter) give me life. I'll take a dorky, sweet, up-for-anything queen over a shady lady any day. Long live the Black Horse!

I don't think it's controversial to say that now. I'm still a Milk fan, but it definitely feels like she's holding back, believing her club kid aesthetic will get her far enough. I do hope she pulls through, but with the way she's floundering, I'm getting worried. The makeup was off, that dark lipliner and wearing the same pair of shoes again are just not a good look.

Gia flipping out over being called ignorant was hilarious to watch. If you're reacting that harshly to something you say you're not, you probably are ignorant. Also, I'm over with the way Bianca does her eyes. That white liner with all those lashes are doing her no favors.

Laganja is another that needs to go, only because she needs to get her mind right. She comes across as someone who's trying way too hard to fit in, so she goes overboard with all the mannerisms. That whole "I'M GONNA SPREAD MY WINGS" was just awkward to watch.

That seems to be the crux of it: she's not tailoring her aesthetic to the challenges enough. It's one thing to let your freak flag fly, but I'm starting to wonder if there's a real thought process behind the looks; I worry her 'defense' would have amounted to "This is my drag. This is what I do" and nothing more. Like she's not refined enough to articulate a response to the challenge that maintains her aesthetic, so she ignores the challenge. I hope not; I'm still pulling for her. But yeah, that lip liner was not good.

I hope she didn't blow her wad on the pregnancy belly, ya know? There'd better not be a Sweet 16 challenge or anything now.

Also, Sheryl Lee Ralph was fantastic and if I were on that runway, I'd blurt out how much I loved her work in Bioshock 2, cementing my status as a loving nerd for all time.

I really believe that when queens use "this is my drag" as an explanation for their critiques, it comes across as an excuse to not push themselves out of their comfort zone. The whole point of being on the show is not only to show what your aesthetic is, but also be versatile with said aesthetic to fit into whatever runway challenge Ru and company throw at them. Sharon gave them some glam looks while still sticking to the spooky poo poo she does, and Jinkx gave some glam in the middle of the season while doing her 50's/60's drag. It's completely possible to be more sharp in your looks without giving up what your schtick is.
