One of my favourite things about being at the race is the sound just before the cars start going out. Just as they are all warming up and getting ready to go. You can hear it from nearly anywhere on the track. But, no longer. That wonderful sound is gone forever. The cars do sound kind of cool, unique anyway, but just not loud enough.

Field report after p1, sound is good but quite as all hell. Cars look harder to drive, massa has the tail out on every other corner. Jb looks quick alonso doesn't despite what the time cards show and vettel doesn't look like he's pushing at all.

Watching the speed comparison (C63 Merc v V8 supercar v last years Red Bull) just makes me miss the excitement the old V8 cars generate with their sound. F1 is ruined. Nothing like seeing two saloons going down the final straight wondering where the F1 car is, then it comes around the corner and beats them to the line I forgot to mention - that 1min 41 was also from a standing start. Whats the penalty of standing start vs going through the start line at top speed?

The sound of the engines reminds me of the sound the HRT made when I went to the Melbourne GP in 2012. It's kind of a sick and dying engine sound.

If the Red Bull burst into flames and Vettel dies... I will only be sad because of the constant Senna comparisons for the rest of time. I still get to hear the old model F1 howling its guts out in the morning, this new engine sound is so sad by comparison. Hearing it right after the FA18 and before the Carrera is an extra let down.
