Hope some of you like The Orwells. They're releasing a new album soon and the past two songs they've released off of it are both good. I loved their debut. They performed on Letterman recently and apparently the front man was on some drugs cause he starts gyrating his hips on the ground and sitting on Letterman's couch just staring at space while his band keeps playing. The ending is hilarious too, but I won't spoil it. The Righteous One - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASu5r_QwJtw Here's the Letterman performance where they play the song Who Needs You, skip to 1:30 if you want to see some weird poo poo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ9RXe4nn8E Obviously not the most cerebral music, but I think it's great stuff. If you like this kind of style I'd say check out Eagulls too. I haven't given their entire album a listen yet, but this track Possessed caught my ear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn7UWWbhL1I Found this song clicking on a Orwell's band tour video and it's pretty awesome too. The vocals get a tinge whiny, but I really like the pacing and catchiness of the track. Never heard of Roar before this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inN-L3V5Auc This is an older song by The Notwist, but I stumbled upon it randomly and I loving love it. A lot more mellow than the past three. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E0zej3qZRY I'm sure The Growlers have been mentioned in this thread before, I feel like I've seen their name in this thread. Just wanted to share this song Hiding Under Covers from their most recent release. A more laid back folk rock feel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2uvp8aMz2M Yuck's last album was pretty bad in my opinion. I posted about them before and their past singer Daniel Blumberg's side project Hebronix last time. Well they're apparently writing new material and released this track Athena from their upcoming EP Southern Skies. It sounds like shoegaze. I think the softer, hazy approach they took with this song suits their music a lot better than the clean production from their recent album. Definitely doesn't come close to the quality of their debut album's songs, but at this point I don't think anything will. Thanks to the people who mentioned MOON BOUNCE and Seoul those tracks are fantastic. Definitely excited for the new Foster the People as well! Hope their poo poo doesn't get overplayed on the radio like their last album though. Hearing their songs played nonstop everywhere made me get sick of their music really quickly, which sucks cause they're awesome. I'm probably gonna get a lot of flak for this and I don't mean to be a contrarian, but I don't like St. Vincent's new album. I think Digital Witness is annoying and didn't really dig Birth In Reverse. I do think Prince Johnny is an okay track. Kudos to her for her recent success though guppiehaus fucked around with this message at 08:15 on Mar 9, 2014 |

Their Other Voices EP has some great tracks and it's tiding me over while I wait for their full length to drop. The title track off the EP and Blood Bubbles are both solid. I'm bummed as all hell cause they're playing nearby my house on the 22nd this month with loving Twin Peaks!! Hey that new Frankie Cosmos album (Zentropy) is really good. I just listened to it twice in a row and enjoyed it a whole lot. Thankfully it's only 18 minutes long. She's put out a whole lot of music in the past year plus and she's only 19 I think? The best song on it is probably birthday song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPKFWhRv-60 I also really enjoyed Art School, Owen, and Buses Splash With Rain. Here's a link to her bandcamp for the album: http://ingridsuperstar.bandcamp.com/

To Kill a King are doing US tour (click the link for dates) for the next few months, doing some headline shows and also supporting Bastille and Frank Turner. I don't know if anyone knows about them outside of Europe, but they're a really good Indie Rock/Folk band, I guess they could be called a bit similar to The National but I think they're quite unique really. Also the new How to dress well single is incredibly good. I have continued to enjoy him more as each new album has come out and he's cleaned up the production, not that the first album wasn't good itself. But this new song is really pretty and lush. Happy about this style for him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbOCLEIKZOo

Yeah, their only current album has quite a few songs that were already on their previous two ep's and/or singles so there isn't a massive amount of content. They have some songs that's not available on any album/ep like Hospital Worker and a cover of Video Games that are really good. They're recording an album at the moment in between all the touring so hopefully a second album should be out sometime this year.

I saw Gorillaz about three years ago and was so bummed out when they didn't have Del come out at the end for Clint Eastwood. Glad he finally did come out for one though, but would have loved to been there for it. I at least got De La Soul to do Feel Good Inc though, and that still remains one of my favorite concert moments.

When she played with David Byrne, Byrne spoke from behind the curtain to ask everyone to think twice about blocking the view of the people behind them with their iPads. It was effective. A few people filmed both then and when I saw St Vincent, though. Just not as many as in that video which is just irritating.

I don't know what the gently caress is going on in the music video, but I haven't understood most music videos in like years. Country Queen by Night Moves blew me away when I first heard it. Beautiful melodies and I'm a huge fan of how they use their drums. Very folky and mellow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYQWnMac-40 Never heard of Mikal Cronin until recently, but apparently he plays with Ty Segall and released a bunch of solo material that's fantastic. I'd say it's along the same vein as Ty Segall's music in terms of using heavily distorted guitars, but he does a great job of making the songs varied and fun to listen to. I particularly like the track Weight from his second release https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S2eTV2v3V0. Anyone here fans of Mac DeMarco? His Salad Days album is releasing this week and I thought his previous piece was the poo poo. Here's a single from Salad Days. It sounds very similar to his past work which is fine with me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Lk3NFWw9Fg Here's a track by the artist Wise Blood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUcIj69zoSA. I have mixed opinions of his album. Some of it's pretty lame and sounds like something from a boring white rapper, other tracks are bogged down by some really unpleasant beats. I guess if you like Alarm I'd say check out his other stuff, but I haven't been impressed by it on the same level as this single song. I think Memoryhouse got a bit of notice for their remix of Millionyoung's track To The Lighthouse a couple of years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xymk20gPTVs. I never followed up with any of their other material, but did find a track this week from their album The Slideshow Effect. Y'all remember The Pipettes, specifically their first incarnation, right? Rebecca Stephens, after quitting, went on to form Electric Blue with some dude in 2008 and they had four songs on a MySpace account. Unfortunately, the project ended up getting abandoned and she moved on to something else around 2010. (Which would be Projectionists, and this seems also to have been abandoned...) It's a real shame because I think the four songs that they released are total earworms of classicist power pop, especially "Somebody's Help". Maybe some others here will appreciate these songs as well, since I think they deserve to be more widely heard than I suspect they have been even six years (!) later...

Looked through most of this thread and didn't see a single mention of Alt-J. For shame KC people, you should have mentioned them. They have a really unique sound, mostly from how the lead singer sings "poorly" but does it in a way that blends like magic with the music. New The Hold Steady is, to me, only a small step above Heaven is Whatever, which puts it a fair way below the rest of their work. They've officially replaced the whole intertwining guitar and piano thing with a dual guitar setup, which makes for a beefier rockier sound that I'm not so into. I like the first and last two tracks, as well as On With the Business (probably the closest anything comes here to Lifter Puller/their early sound), but most of the rest just doesn't seem to go anywhere. Runner's High is potentially the worst/dullest song they've ever recorded.
