You would think that "Food so good, it crosses the Iron Curtain" would make for a great slogan, but I guess the Red Scare got in the way.

Charlie loving Chaplin got blacklisted for not liking Hitler too soon, because you know who else didn't like Hitler before the war? Communists. Any kind of Soviet association would have been a one-way ticket to Fucksville, population: lovely pasta.

What was up with the KKK comparison about the final scene? This is literally the first time I've heard somebody getting THAT impression from it.

I sorta had the same idea about race relations being a bit skewed in the movie, though he went really into it and kind of lost the point that Alien's character as a whole was portrayed as a being into a culture generally portrayed as negative stereotypes. That was pretty much the point and the self realization in the movie as well. But yeah. after he burned "Shame" I expected this, though shame does have some weird issues. Kevin Smith has mentioned following a philosophy of "stealing the thunder" which is to criticize your movie before someone else has a chance to. Pretty effective way of shutting things down before they have a chance to start.

That completely sucks and having someone actively inhibiting his wife from getting help like that is pretty lovely. I'm however pleasantly surprised that Chuck's been able to make the show a full-time gig. I figured he was still teaching, even if only part-time.

His system of donations and requests seems to be working pretty well for him, honestly it might be worth looking into for other critics that work in particular niche areas. Heart goes out to him for his situation, it sounds just completely intolerable and the fact that he keeps going is incredible.
