My parents had a 150Mhz 1st Gen Pentium Compaq with this piece of poo poo on it. Tried it a few times, never touched it again. I remember this loathsome pile of hate computer taking ~45 seconds at a minimum to start AOL version 3.0 too. That and the 'Compaq Diagnostics' which would freeze at the opening progress bar and never finish opening. No wonder Compaq got eaten by HP.

I spent a full 8-hour shift live-resizing a window in a QuickTime demo during the Tiger release and saying "it comes with the pro features!" to people even geekier than myself. Then 10.5 didn't come with it and people went apeshit, as though I could change that.

Quicktime got it's kicks from The Phantom Menace (of all things) when Apple noticed no one really had the ability to stream decent quality video, so put a proposal to LucasFilm and subsequently Apple.com/trailers was born.

We are currently in the process of migrating to Office 365 and while the conversion is a pain, the system is so much better.

As I've understood it, the main reason to use Lotus Notes is as a development platform, where email is just one of the features; it's supposedly a reasonable way to make enterprise-wide database/messaging things. To my knowledge I've never been in the same building as an open Notes client, so I have no idea how true that is.

Back when I worked at Bang & Olufsen, we used Lotus Notes as a pretty decent all-round tool. Our entire IT knowledgebase, planned changes, known errors just about everything was implemented as a Notes database, even our weekly pizza run had a list. Most of the company kept their various data i Notes apps and databases. It worked pretty well and must have been a breeze to manage, considering we only had two full-time Lotus Notes admins for ~5000 employees. KozmoNaut has a new favorite as of 15:44 on Mar 18, 2014 |

And you can do a lot with it if you have a Domino apps development team. But the Notes client is doesn't look or act much like a standard Windows app, more so on older version (older being 4+ years old). I know a number of our users unofficially used Outlook instead.

I actually do notes-to-exchange migrations professionally, and it is incredibly common to hear a client say the reason they're moving away from notes is because a new executive arrived, was utterly horrified by the notes interface, and basically mandated that they're making the leap. 90% of the time the IT department is glad to go along with it, even if the prime motivator is an exec who hates strange things.
