CoP question: Is there any way to get Strider into Freedom/Duty while still getting the Man of Balance and Courier of Justice achievements? I'm not beyond doing some file-editing for that--does anyone know what files are responsible for getting a faction to like you enough to get those Monolith guys to sign up with them?

Going to replay CS. Any mods you suggest I get other than CS Complete? Getting CS Complete realistic weapons and some ambient music mod.

You get courier of justice no matter what. Don't think you can get man of balance if you want to recruit strider though.

I'm playing SGM 2.2 and I have the objective to "investigate the base" yet I've looked everywhere and also friendlies are occupying it. I also talked to the leader and he does nothing useful. This is just after opening the safe I think.

Friends have been bugging me to play these games. I must thank the OP for putting this thread together. I'm sure it'll help enhance my experience. I only have the first and third in the series. If I love them enough I'll go ahead and get the other.

SoC has the best story and atmosphere, and I think its aged pretty well. Just get the Zone Reclamation Project to fix a lot of bugs.

The gameplay isn't as sharp as CoP, and there's a handful of quality of life things you'll be missing, but if you loved CoP, you'll loving love SoC.

As someone who's logged in way more time than is justifiable into CoP () I really like SOC, but I've grown accustomed to some CoP mechanics that aren't present, ie weapon upgrades. It's definitely way more atmospheric than CoP, though, especially in the underground levels. For your first playthrough, I recommend OGSE OGSE is really cool because SoC needs a graphics update, but I'd really be careful with that mod. While it did breathe new life into the game, the mutant spawns are really high. It was hard to be scared and immersed (which stalker does incredibly well) because some areas resembled a mutant battlefield. That and I was able to get a good condition exo just two hours into the game. Luckily OGSE comes with a really detailed options launcher, so it might be worth seeing if you could put some spawn values back to vanilla default, while still keeping the quality of life and graphical improvements OGSE puts in.

Yeah, turn off increased mutant spawn and set the spawn timer to at least 24 hours. Turning off randomized stashes also reduces the chance you'll come across an M16, silencer, and 200 rounds of AP ammo stashed in the rookie village.

Got back into stalker recently to try out the latest version of misery, and so far the biggest thing that's bothering me is the eating animations and sounds. Any way to remove these by chance? Or what file they are in?

Basically they're long range chain-guns with laser accuracy that will instantly kill you. Destroying them involves a lot of quick-loading and utilizing incredibly small gaps in cover. Luckily there's a turret fix which either removes them/shuts them off somewhere in the thread. Although I'd be kind of surprised if the OGSE mod hasn't fixed them at this point, it's been quite a while since release.

I'm playing SGM 2.2 and I'm frustrated with the low performance I am getting. I've turned all the graphics settings down, installed the optimized shaders and even tried the modified dll files but the game is still very choppy. I've even installed it on my SSD and although it speeds up initial loading times, when I get in a firefight or go to Skadovsk it becomes a slideshow. Is it just because xrengine isn't well optimized? I mean, I can get a constant smooth experience in Far Cry 3 but max out at 19 fps in CoP . I have a lot of love for STALKER but this is just making it a chore to play. nexus6 fucked around with this message at 16:39 on Mar 15, 2014 |

S.G.M 2.2 seems to have upped the switch distance a lot, so, the usual stutters you get are somewhat lessened after the initial load, this means that playful alfa teams and other such respectable yet somewhat impish characters can actually sometimes see you before you have finalized an optimal firing solution, leveling the playing field somewhat. also, Touched by the zone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2VomVXCq8s

I'm getting a problem installing the Original Weapons Renewal mod for CoP in that no matter how many times I un/reinstall CoP and copy over the gamedata folder, the mod never seems to take effect and I get stuck running vanilla. Anyone had similar problems and know how to fix? This is especially strange because I already ran OWR before just fine, but decided to uninstall and reinstall it because of missing scope textures (specifically for the scoped Mosin-Nagant).

Be warned, though: Misery is very much an adherent of the "Kick the Player in the Nuts and Stomp on Him When He Collapses" school of game design, so that may not be what you're looking for. Honestly, atmosphere is not that common in the modding scene AFAIK. Most of the CoP mods are about either polishing the existing content or adding some more, and even those additions tend to be minor things like new weapons and such. Only mod that adds new missions, areas and such that comes to mind immediately is SGM, and that's a mod that can be pretty buggy. Holy poo poo, this loving game. I tried Shadow of Chernobyl and Prypyat way back when, and quickly stopped cause I found the combat impossible, and the rest boring. So if I want to try again, and I dont' give a poo poo about "realism" or re-playability, what loving mods am I supposed to be using these days to make the game shiny and fun? I just want the atmosphere that the reviews always promised, but that I never saw cause the game itself was frustrating as gently caress.

Rob Ford posted:Holy poo poo, this loving game. Just download the Complete mod for SoC since it sounds like you want the atmosphere of STALKER with easy mode difficulty. Also, at least in SoC you'll want to play on Master difficulty since the three lower ones have a certain percentage of shots that should hit not register in what I assume was supposed to be a safety factor for the player, but the setting applies to enemies as well. Basically, the lower you set the difficulty, the more shots that should "hit" will count as a miss.

Stalker Complete features an earlier build of the ZRP. ZRP is probably the more consistent experience in that you can customize virtually everything. Complete has a preset system that is pretty unchangeable, as far as I can tell. The main things that Complete has over ZRP are textures, shaders and that's about it really. Both of those you can rectify pretty easily.
|
# ? Mar 18, 2014 23:06 |
|
Complete is basically a one-stop shop for bringing the first two STALKER games closer Call of Pripyat's level. It's not quite as in-depth as longer running projects, but it's simple and fixes things enough so that you're unlikely to encounter any significant problems in either game. The third game is pretty polished by itself, though.
|
# ? Mar 19, 2014 00:21 |

The only reason I suggested Complete was because it makes the game easier and makes the enemies drat near blind and deaf at night. By all means download ZRP, it's a far more customizable experience than Complete. I actually find Complete to be garbage, but since he had said he found the combat impossible, I was literally looking for the most easy mode mod out there, which just so happens to be complete more or less.

Skimming the patch notes, I don't see anything in 2.1 that addresses this. Can anyone actually playing 2.1 confirm or deny it's now more similar to Misery 1? I'm perfectly fine with player dying from one or two shots, but I drat well expect the human enemies to do the same.

I'm playing 2.1 currently and I had to modify a lot of the immunities of stalkers to make them not act like tanks. Your basic bandit in stock Misery 2.1 can take a Mosin round to the face and survive, while anyone wearing even basic armor can take a mag dump from an AK without much trouble.
