blk posted:Yeah, I just need to figure out if I want to drive a NA 2400 miles back home. You might be able to ship it for less than you would spend on a drive. What is your time worth to you? Some quick math says that you're looking at $350 in gas alone. You're also looking at a minimum of 36 hours of pure driving, so add in a couple hotel stays at $50/night and food costs of $25/day and boom you're at $500. Add in that you're off work for three days at least so even a $10/hr job costs you $240 (~$750 now). I was looking at a SoCal E30 before I bought my Miata from a local, and a shipping price of $1000 was not at all unreasonable to me. Not a lot at the moment; cash is more valuable right now and I have a bunch of vacation I need to use or lose. Shipping would probably be a little more than a grand. I have couches I can stay on for some nights if I drive, so flight + gas + hotel where needed would be about $500-600.

I drove my NA about 12 hours when I got it and it was fairly torturous, particularly the back pain and road noise (had a hardtop too).

The back pain gets a lot better if you can roll up a shirt/towel and make some kind of ghetto lumbar support.

I drove mine for about 12 hours with my brother picking it up, and it was the first time we'd driven manual. And the heat/defroster didn't work - in the middle of a blizzard. On summer only tires. Good times.

So if a 97 M with 70k is worth 6k, an 01 ls with a hardtop and 70k should be worth 6 too right?

An M edition is the best possible Miata to do a road trip in. I drove my '95 M from Ohio to FL and it was nothing. I could have done a few more days easy. Hell if you have time stretch that poo poo out and hit some cool roads on your way back.

All 1.8 are interchangeable though, so car part a newer seat if you like them better. Some people like 1.6 seats even better but you have to gently caress around with a seat belt mounting on those, so probably not worth it.

Either way just get a tepurpedic (or similar) rear end pillow and you'll be golden.

Are 16" wheels still ok for NBs? I've been on a low-intensity search for a set of either smaller winter or replacement summer wheels. I just checked my local Miata club trade forum and found a few decent options. 1. AEZ 16", 4x100 mm, most likely 6,5", ET40 $320/set w/o tires. Supposedly only minor wear and tear, but I no idea about AEZ. 2. Enkei 14" 7-spoke $350/set w/ Falken Ziex tires. I could use them this summer season then repurpose them for winter and fix up my current 15" wheels. 3. BBS RK, 16x7j, 4x100, ET35 $350 w/ mismatched Hankook Ventus S1 Evo and Uniroyal Rainsport1 tires. Obviously with some curb and corrosion damage as well. Obviously I'm not a fan of spending big bucks on shiny rims. I think I like the BBS ones the best, but how fixable is the damage? No need to make them as-new. Any opinions on the other wheels?

Ive never used other Miata seats but they make my back feel like poo poo after a few hours. And the lateral support is distinctly lacking. The thing i do like is the adjustable head rests. Makes driving with a helmet nice because I can lower them enough that they don't hit the helmet at all.

Took me just over an hour from start to finish.

So I got the car all buttoned up finally and was filling up the radiator when the o-ring junction for the stupid bypass pipe started spewing water all over the ground. Goddammit, of all the things. How hard is it to dismount the AC compressor? All I see is one through-bolt on the thing, and removing the compressor would make the bottom bolt on the water pump elbow so much easier.
