Psylocke is now available!

Game Features

Since reading paragraphs is hard, here's a list of cool things about this game.

- Every Hero (and Villain!) is their own, unique, fully fleshed out class, complete with three skill trees.
- Team-Ups, which allow you to have AI-controlled heroes fight alongside you or buff you passively.
- Tons of costumes from across every era of Marvel's comics, movies, and cartoons.
- Great co-op gameplay, with teams of up to 5 players, and some special modes that allow for even larger groups to work together!
- Fantastic voice acting from established Marvel voice actors.
- New characters and content added monthly, and sometimes even more frequently than that! (We get new costumes almost weekly!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENc8NgACZqg

This game is available on Steam! And we highly recommend you play it through that. The non-steam version of the game has some issues updating, and won't update automatically like Steam does.

If you'd still prefer the non-steam downloader, you can get it here. But we warned you.

Okay, I'm interested, what is Marvel Heroes?

Marvel Heroes is a Free To Play Action-RPG set in the Marvel universe, headed by David Brevik (who you might know better as the lead designer on Diablo 1 and 2). It blends traditional ARPG gameplay with a superheroic flair, and has an in-game shop reminiscent of something like League of Legends. The key difference between this and other ARPGs like Diablo or Torchlight is it takes place in an MMO style, massively multiplayer environment. You're going to see dozens of players helping you clean the streets of New York, fight dinosaurs in the Savage Lands, face down the forces of AIM and Hydra, and venture to Asgard as you make your way through the Marvel universe to stop the likes of Doctor Doom, Loki, and more. And the story's growing all the time!

58 Metascore? Who plays this trash?

Marvel Heroes, at launch, was crippled by a number of poor design decisions, lousy UI, and sketchy Free-to-Play mechanics. Fast forward a few months to version 2.0 and Gazillion has delivered one of the biggest turnarounds in the industry. Players coming back after having just played the beta and 1.0 can't believe it's even the same game. Significant changes since launch, include: adding ways to earn the hero you want for free by just playing the game, a huge revamp of the defense system, tons of new types of equippable gear and new gear slots, a new PvP mode, queues for co-op content, and of course a ton of new characters. Best of all, new content is being released monthly, if not faster.

If you played the game at launch and decided it wasn't your thing, give it a try! You'll find it's basically a whole new game now.

So How Do I Get Started?

Choose a starter Hero:

Starter Heros come in 2 tiers: 200 Eternity Splinters and 400 Eternity Splinters. These are not indications of power or ability, merely the cost to purchase a Hero later.

Eternity Splinters are a game currency primarily used to purchase new Heroes and are obtained at a fairly fixed rate during play (~1 Splinter every 8-10 minutes of gameplay). New Heroes cost 200-600 Splinters or a Random Hero box can be purchased for 175 Splinters. For an entire playthrough of the Story Mode on Normal Difficulty, you also receive a total of 200 bonus Splinters so you can purchase your first additional Hero.

It is highly advisable to take a 400 Splinter Hero to start as they would cost more to purchase later.

200 Splinter Starter Heroes:

- Black Widow: A mix of guns, explosives, martial arts, and knifing dudes in the face.
- Hawkeye: Ranged single target and AoE damage and with an assortment crowd control powers in the form of trick arrows.
- Storm: Ranged and AoE damage with a lot of different stuns and slows, by way of lightning, wind, and weather.

400 Splinter Starter Heroes:

- Colossus: A hefty melee tank with high defensive capabilities and incredible damage. Can summon both Wolverine (via Fastball Special, natch) and his sister Magik to fight alongside him.
- Human Torch: Do you want everything to be on fire? All the time? Of course you do. He's fast, he's AoE-based, and he's flashy as hell.
- Black Panther: High single-target melee damage and stealth mode (invisibility). Reworked recently to make up for old weaknesses.
- Captain America: Oh, I just love America. Don't you? :patriot: Strong defenses, solid melee attacks, and some super fun shield-throwing powers.
- Luke Cage: SWEET CHRISTMAS! A tanky melee bruiser with a cadre of Heroes For Hire (Iron Fist summon available at level 1!) fighting alongside you. Also, throwing cars at an enemy over and over until they die.
- Punisher: THIS BADASS-A-SAURUS HAS TWENTY PERCENT MORE GUNS PER GUN THAN ANY OTHER HERO OUT THERE. Also has a unique NUCLEAR loving BOMB THAT ANNIHILATES THE SCREEN (as one of his rare Unique items). He's a glass cannon, though.

Even if you turn out not to like the choice you've started with, the Normal Mode story is fairly short and you'll be able to buy an entirely new Hero by the end of it.

Ok, I finished the Story Mode. Now What?

Here's a rundown of major game content:

Story Mode: There are two additional difficulty levels of story mode to be completed at your leisure. Identical to the first run through but with bigger numbers. You'll want to do them eventually for the rewards (Power Points, Permanent HP/SP bonuses, some items).

Green/Red/Cosmic Terminals: Each dungeon in the game can be found, scaled to your level, as an on-demand Terminal for your farmming pleasure. Most useful for farming boss-specific drops. Can be completed solo or in groups.

Midtown Patrol: A fixed map with endlessly respawning enemies for pickup Killin' Dudes Action. Hop in or out as you like, each map supports 10 players, and you'll be assigned to one with players of your level range. Also, every few minutes, Supervillain bosses spawn for the killing.

X-Defense: 5-player wave-based mode. You'll be assigned to one with players of your level range in order to defend the Xavier Institute from infinitely-escalating waves of enemies, that scale up difficulty and loot with each wave. The primary mode for farming Uniques and Artifacts.

SHIELD Holo-Training: A Danger Room-style series of simulated scenarios playable either solo or in a duo. Difficulty and loot scale with each wave.

Legendary Quests: Starting at level 20, you'll be automatically assigned a Legendary Quest which will replace itself with another random Legendary Quest upon completion. These vary from defeating certain enemies to completing specific dungeons. They reward massive amounts of Experience and Credits, but the real prize is the Marks of Odin, redeemable for Legendary gear and Blessings for artifacts.

Fire VS Ice PvP: Sill in a bit of a beta state. Inspired by mobas like DotA or League of Legends, this mode has two teams of five players each escort frost giants or fire giants towards the enemy base, destroying defensive towers, and ultimately the enemy base itself.

Prestige System: At max level (60), you can reboot your character to level 1 (keeping all items and story rewards). The primary purposes of this are threefold: (1)Your name in-game (everywhere including chat and visually) changes color to reflect how many times you have prestiged (2) You get an additional copy of your hero's base costume with each prestige (used in crafting random costumes) and (3) Access to unique pets based on your prestige level.

That's a lot of stuff. What do I focus on first?

You are free to do what you like, but here's some suggestions:

Level your Heroes: Leveling Heroes enables two separate Synergy features: Bonus XP Synergy and Passive Synergy. For each Hero that you level up to Level 30/50/60 every Hero you have (including that one) will receive bonus XP gain, up to a cap of 200%. Additionally, each Hero provides up to two passive bonuses to all your Heroes (including themselves) upon reaching Level 25/50. For instance, Iron Man provides a 2% Ranged damage bonus at 25 and 2% Energy Damage bonus at 50. You can enable up to 10 Heroes to provide these bonuses on each Hero.

Donate items to your Vendors: Each vendor increases the amount and quality of recipes and gear they have available based on their level. Holding down the ALT key when selling items allows you to donate them instead. Donated items don't give you any credits, but your vendor will receive XP equal to the donated item's credit value. The recommended order to level your vendors is Crafter > Enchanter > Gear > Weapon.

Complete Red/Green Terminals: These on-demand dungeons unlock at level 25. The first time each day you complete one, you receive a Cube Shard currency item. They have a handy icon and timer to show which ones are eligible to drop.

Complete Legendary Quests: Legendary Items are some of the largest DPS upgrades you can get in the game, so you'll want to get one on each Hero. These quests are the only way to get the Mark of Odin currency to purchase them. As a bonus, the first time each day you complete a Legendary quest on each Hero, you get a bonus Mark of Odin (there will be a notice at the top of your Mission pane).

So this is a loot game right? Tell me about the loot!

At the start of the game, your Hero has 5 Gear slots (Traditionally: Weapon, Armor, Belt, Boots, Head. But they vary by Hero), a Medal slot, and 2 Artifact slots.

Gear: Your Gear 1-5 slots will fill with slot-appropriate Hero-specific items ranging from White->Green->Blue(Rare)->Purple(Epic)->Cosmic(Yellow)->Unique(Brown). For instance, Spiderman gets Web Shooters as his Slot 1 Gear. Anything below Cosmic rains down like candy. Cosmics, while slightly rarer at early levels become relatively common at level 60 and provide +1 to all Powers in addition to having affixes like Epic Gear. Uniques are untradeable, many can be used by multiple characters, and tend to be stronger than most other items. Virtually every hero's top end gearset at level 60 will consist of 5 Uniques. Hero-specific Uniques aren't incredibly rare, but Any Hero Uniques can be hard to find.

Rings: Rings unlock at level 25 and serve as an effective 6th Gear slot. Rings are not Hero-Specific and follow the same rarity system as Gear, while being a much more infrequent drop. Cosmic Rings are some of the the rarest and most valuable tradable items in the game.

Insignias: Insignias unlock at level 35 and come in Green/Blue/Purple versions. They are usable only by Heroes that are affiliated with the appropriate teams (which you can see in your character's bio) and provide a fixed group-wide benefit in addition to having stat affixes like Gear. The group bonuses do stack and can be relatively sizable. Well rolled Insignias are some of the the rarest and most valuable tradable items in the game.

Medals: Dropped from bosses, these come in 3 versions: Rare (below level 24), Epic (level 24+), and Cosmic(any level). Rare provide small buffs. Epic provide larger buffs and give +1 to all your Powers. Cosmic provide the same buffs as an equivalent Epic, but give +2 to all Powers.

Artifacts: You start the game with 2 artifact slots and acquire a 3rd and 4th at level 45 and 55 respectively. Artifacts are fixed level gear with an assortment of affixes that can be quite unique. They are usable by any Hero and are tradable.

Legendary: Your legendary slot is available at level 1, but you'll need to collect 300 Marks of Odin from level 20+ Legendary Quests to buy one. They are incredibly large stat sources. They are usable by any Hero and are not tradable- but you can turn them back into Odin Marks if you're unhappy with them for whatever reason.

Relic: Relic slot unlocks at 20. Relics are items with small individual stat bonuses that stack in your Relic slot up to 1000 Relics. They are not tradable and the stat values on them suffer from extreme diminishing returns as your stack grows larger.

Uru-Forged: Uru Forged items come in 2 tiers: Level 25 and 50. Each gives a small fixed stat bonus. Their value lies in their ability to be enchanted by powerful runewords. The runewords scale to the tier of the item.

Costume: You control what costume you want to wear and what stats you want it to grant. Starting at level 27, you can add a Core to your costume granting powerful buffs. Also, you can craft various affixes onto your costume at levels 2,7,12, and 17.

Team-Ups: While not technically gear, Team-Ups are AI-controlled characters that you can unlock via Eternity Splinters or by purchasing them with Gs (real money) in the in-game store. They have their own gear slots, their own gear types, their own skills(organized in a unique way), and their own inventory space. Team-Ups can function in three modes: Active, in which they follow you around to help fight crime. Passive, in which you gain passive benefits based on the character but they never actually appear. And Assist, in which characters drop in with a strong 'Assist' attack, then remain summoned to fight alongside you for roughly 30 seconds before going on cooldown. If you want to know more about Team-Ups(including pricing), check out the FAQ that a developer posted on the official forums.

How about this Crafting thing?

You've got 2 basic categories of crafting: Your Enchanter and Crafter.

Your Enchanter crafts Runes, Runewords, and Blessings:
Runes: Adds a rune to one of your Gears in slots 1-5. Gives a small stat buff. Scales to item level. Cannot be removed or moved, only replaced.

Runewords: Powerful combinations of stats that can be added to your Uru-Forged item. Scales to Uru-Forged level. Cannot be removed or moved, only replaced.

Blessings: Provide a significant set of buffs and effects. Attaches to an artifact. Can be moved cheaply to another artifact. Often used as a currnency in player trading as unbound artifacts are tradable.

Your Crafter has a large amount of items and effects available to craft. Some highlights:

Unique Upgrade: Upgrade any unique Gear to level 40, 50, or 60 (scaling up all the stats). Somewhat costly and the level 50 isn't really worth it.

Add Affixes To Costume: Each costume has 4 Affix slots that you can roll on. This is the main credit sink in the game. These affixes scale up to the level of Core added to the costume.

Costume Blender: Destroy 3 Costumes to get a new random costume. Used largely with duplicate costumes received from Prestiging.

Ok, this all sounds good, but F2P with micro-transactions sounds like a cash sink.

The game's free. ZERO content is paywalled. ZERO mechanics or gameplay items are paywalled.

Here's what spending money will get you:

Costumes: Cosmetic only. Also, while extremely rare, almost all costumes are available as drops in-game.

Pets: Cosmetic only. Some have dialogue like playable heroes do.

Heroes: All heroes are also available with in-game currency (Eternity Splinters) which drop at a solid rate. Playing rather frequently, you'd expect to get a new Hero with Splinters every week or two.

Team-Ups: All Team-Ups are also available with in-game currency, just like heroes, and can be earned at roughly the same rate as a new hero.

S.T.A.S.H. Space: The base inventory in this game is rather small and so is the bank. This would be the primary microtransaction most players would want.

Temporary XP/Credit/Item Find boosts: These also show up as drops in-game(via Fortune Cards) and are frequently given out for free.

Summonable Vendors/S.T.A.S.H.: Convenient and probably worth the purchase if you are playing a lot.

An assortment of craps: Crafting materials and stuff. Nothing anyone sane would buy.

Here's what spending money will not get you:

Gear: Every piece of gear you want for every slot and every one of the enchantments/runes/etc. for them are drop only. Get to killing.

Combat buffs: Nope. Do it the hard way, chump.

Content: It's all there for the taking. Free.

FAQ

Q: Who's in the game? Who can I play as? What Team-Ups can I unlock?

A: Check the second post for an up to date roster of playables and what Enhanced costumes they have available! As well as all currently available Team-Ups. And tons of videos showing them all off.

Q: So I didn't read the rest of the OP, is the game good yet?

A: Yes, the game is great right now. Developers are adding new stuff all the time and fixing things that are broken. Try it again!

Q: Why are there no builds in the OP?

A: The builds recommended by goons are all kept up to date in this build post by Sion, which I have also linked in the post below because I'm pretty sure you're going to skip the whole FAQ section and ask the thread where they're at anyway.

Q: There's a lot of types of loot in this game, how do I know what's good and what isn't?

A: You can find out more about the game's loot over here, thanks to SA user Cease To Hope.

Q: There aren't enough hotkeys for me to use all my powers!

A: This isn't a problem for most characters, but they're working on implementing some solutions for this. In the meantime, you can check out this thread on the official forums to do some work-arounds if you feel it's absolutely necessary.

Q: There's so many classes, won't it be hard to get gear for the one I'm playing?

A: Loot drops are weighted to your currently played character. You'll find loot for other heroes, but 75% of what you find is going to be for who you're playing as. This goes for special items, too! Sometimes you'll find something very rare for another character, like a Unique or a Costume. That's... just bad luck, unfortunately. But maybe you'll end up interested in getting the character that item belongs to. Maybe they're someone really good! You never know.

Q: How often does this game update?

A: Frequently. It's rare to go more than a week without at least some sort of minor patch, and we're seeing new heroes get added to the game at a rate of about one a month. The developers have told us to expect this pace to stay constant throughout the life of the game, which is kind of exciting.

Q: What's the conversion rate for cash into Gs?

A: $1 = 100G. Pretty simple. If buying through Steam, you can even use your Steam Wallet funds. And this game has Steam Cards, too, if you like to resell those and use the money to buy stuff. Gift Cards you can purchase with cash and redeem online should be available at your local Gamestop or Target, if you need those.

Q: I want to play as villains! Heroes are lame. Can I be Juggernaut or Mephisto or Lady Stiltman or whoever?

A: Loki is our first playable villain, and there's more to come in the future. In 2014 we're scheduled to get Magneto, Venom, and the Juggernaut (he's unstoppable). Beyond that, not much is known, but it's likely we'll also eventually see Elektra, Sabretooth, and of course Doctor Doom all join the playable character roster. Though rumors of a 'Marvel Villains' expansion persist, the developers are pretty quick to squash that idea whenever it comes up. They've also said we're only going to be able to play 'redeemable' villains- as in, no Red Skull, Carnage, or otherwise totally-crazy-only-ever-evil characters. Just the guys that occasionally work on the side of good.

Q: It's annoying to run around so much, especially since my inventory is so small! How can I sell things and get back to where I left off faster?

A: Your B key is for 'Bodyslide', or basically the town portal button. It's a two-way thing, not only taking you back to the level-appropriate hub area, but also letting you teleport back to exactly where you left off, if used a second time. You can do this from anywhere, in the middle of Midtown or dungeons or terminals or even the Classified Bovine Sector. Sell your loot and sell it often. This does have a cooldown on it, but it's a short enough one that you shouldn't be too worried about conserving it or anything like that.

Q: Is there any sort of Auction House, secure trading, or player economy functionality in the game?

A: Not right now. Secure trading is something they're working on (more complicated to implement than you'd believe), but the game will never ever ever never ever have an auction house. There is, however, a [Trade] channel in-game, and plenty of people trading or just giving eachother stuff in the goon supergroup pretty often.

Q: I'm very familiar with the game and want some in-depth numbers on gear, costume affixes, etc. Alternately, I'm new to the game but won't get overwhelmed when faced with dozens of spreadsheets worth of game info. Or I really get off on sperging out about hard numbers and knowing every possible thing about a game?

A: I don't think that's a question? But there is a very helpful spreadsheet here for players who are experienced enough with the game to understand it, or for players who can handle a ton of raw information about stats, affixes, etc. If your eyes generally glaze over when being faced with too much info about a game's mechanics, just... don't go in there. But some people will get a lot of use out of it.

There's also a page in there with all the costume prices listed, which could be pretty helpful if you forget and can't check the store or something.

Q: My characters don't talk enough! I want to annoy everyone all the time with wacky Deadpool quotes, on-demand. How can I be more obnoxious?

A: The numpad! There's character voice commands bound to it, and everyone has unique dialogue. A lot of it, actually. There's a handy chart I stole from the official forums that tells you what button makes them say what kind of lines:

And Enhanced costumes have their own full sets of lines for this, too! Try it out. Constantly. Everywhere.

What's coming to the game next?

Well, lots of things. As I mentioned in the opening, there's plans for this game to get new content on basically a monthly basis up through 2015. And likely beyond that. There are over two year's worth of additional heroes currently in development, a series of new story chapters being released on a (hopefully) monthly basis, and a bunch of stuff we don't even know about yet. New gear and loot types, new challenge modes, new mechanics, new costumes, new artifacts and uniques. So much stuff.

Oh, and we're going to be fighting Thanos by the end of the year!

But what playable characters do we know are coming?

We don't have a full list, but these characters have been confirmed as in the works:

- Invisible Woman (April)
- Psylocke (May)
- Mr. Fantastic (June)
- Starlord (July, shortly before the Guardians of the Galaxy movie)
- Nova (2014)
- Juggernaut (2014)
- Magneto (2014)
- Venom (2014)
- Silver Surfer (2014)
- Rogue (2014?)
- X-23 (2014?)
- Ant Man (Alongside the Ant Man movie)
- Blade (2014 or 2015)
- Iceman (2015)
- War Machine (2015)
- Magik (2015)
- Domino (2015?)
- Beast (2015?)
- Spider-Woman (2015?)
- Elektra
- Agent Venom
- Penance
- Iron Fist
- Nick Fury
- Doctor Doom

And the developers are listening very closely to what we, as players, want to see. So if there's someone you'd love to see added to the game, make a lot of noise and get a lot of support and it might happen. This got us Moon Knight, among other heroes, and it can happen to your weird obscure favorite hero too.

How do I play with other goons?

In-game, our supergroup is named Groot Force.

To get in the group, either contact us in the Mumble channel(text is fine, you don't need a mic!), or send a message in-game to one of our officers.

Groot Force Officers include:

- KelpPlankton
- NotALizardMan
- Eckertmania
- Naerokk
- Gboon
- NotoriousBIZ
- MechaGalvatron
- MikeSA
- DaveBo
- And many more! Whom may or may not be active.

We can't invite you unless you're online and we're online, so try to catch one of those folks in-game. Don't ask for an invite in the thread. We can't help you unless you help yourself.

Additionally, Groot Force uses the Camping The Stairs Mumble Server, and details on joining us are here:

http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3521554

The Mumble channel is typically pretty active during the evenings (US time) and all day on the weekends. We've got a few European, Australian, and other international-type players too, who are on at their own appropriate prime times. There's almost always someone there, and we're all very helpful, whether you want to know how to build a character or just how the hell you're supposed to pronounce N'Garai. We highly recommend you join!

There's also an IRC channel, #marvelheroes on synIRC. I don't personally use it but it could be pretty good too!

WHERE ARE THE BUILDS? I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO MAKE MY CHARACTER BE GOOD

:siren:GO HERE, THE BUILDS ARE OVER HERE:siren:

You can also reach that post with this nice little link: http://tinyurl.com/sa-builds

Sion keeps that post updated with the latest builds recommended by goons and it's super cool and you should use it. If you're worried about something being outdated or if it seems to be confusing, or if you just want to find a different yet viable build for a character (aka "can i play Iron Man as melee?") feel free to ask the thread. We'll set you straight (the answer is "yes but you should buy the Hulkbuster armor first")

USEFUL LINKS!

These are in the OP but I'll put them here too. Feel free to suggest more useful links for me.

Cease To Hope's Loot Megapost, go there if you have questions about anything loot-related. He tries to keep it up to date.

How to add more hotkeys than are available on your hotbar. Useful for a number of heroes.

The Current Roster

Click the character portraits for some additional info and to see available costumes. Costumes vary wildly in pricing, and there's so many at this point that keeping the OP updated with what's available for who would just be completely maddening. So I ain't gonna do it.

Black Panther (900G or 400 Splinters)

A melee hero, Black Panther attacks with his daggers, acrobatic manuvers, and a series of 'traps' that he can set. At high levels, he also gets the Dora Milaje, some kickass warrior ladies that give him some extra DPS. Black Panther is one of the few heroes who can Stealth at will without the need of an artifact.

T'challa has one Enhanced Costume available, and it's his sister Shuri.

Black Widow (450G or 200 Splinters)

A hybrid melee/ranged character, Black Widow brings strong melee and ranged options to the secret agent table. She uses guns, grenades, martial arts, and all sorts of weird gadgetry to lay a super-spy smackdown on the bad guys.

Cable (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WTBY0PSJRg
Cable has come back... from the future! To throw grenades around and shoot things. He's got some great utility powers, like his projectile reflection forcefield, and lots of very solid damage options, but is purely a ranged character. And one of his special Unique gear items is the Hyper Viper Beam, holy poo poo.

Captain America (1200G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM7tSU2UFe0
Strong defenses, strong melee damage, and his shield throw powers are super fun and powerful too. Cap has a lot of good team-based buffs and auras, and his Ultimate power is one of the most elaborate, cool abilities in the game.

Colossus (900G or 400 Splinters)

Melee tank. Dude's made of metal, not sure what else you'd expect. While he has some summon powers(Wolverine and Magik), Colossus is best at being in the middle of a brawl, taking very little damage while he hits back with the force of a freight train. All aboard the Siberian Express.

Cyclops (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRwkcV1VL7k
A ranged, energy-based character with dodge-based defenses and some helpful debuff abilities. Cyclops has a defensive passive that boosts the dodge chance of the entire team, as well as a passive that boosts the XP everyone receives from killing enemies. He's a solid ranged DPS and team support character, but has little ability to diversify beyond that role. Hey, he's Cyclops. What's he gonna do, punch people? Come on. No way.

Daredevil (450G or 200 Splinters)

Daredevil is a dodge-based melee hero with a Combo Points system as a secondary resource. He's not as flashy as many other heroes, unsurprisingly, but he deals a lot of damage and can survive an awful lot of things. If you like hitting things with a stick and occasionally fighting alongside Elektra, Daredevil is your dude.

Deadpool (1350G or 600 Splinters)

Another hybrid ranged/melee character, Deadpool is effective at doing both. His Bodyslider allows him to get around quickly via teleporting, and his regen powers keep him alive through almost anything. If he manages to die, God Mode gets enabled and you just... don't die, and are invincible for a while instead. If you like guns, stabbing people, explosive dolls, and characters that won't shut the hell up, Deadpool's the guy for you.

Deadpool has two Enhanced Costumes.

Pirate Deadpool makes ye talk like yer plunderin' an' pillagin', matey. It also turns yer pistols into flintlocks and yer katanas inta' cutlasses. Yarr.

Lady Deadpool is Deadpool, but a lady. I think that's self-explanatory. Has a customized version of Lil' Deadpool with her ponytail.

Doctor Strange (1350G or 600 Splinters)

Doctor Strange has some of the coolest looking powers in the game. As the Sorcerer Supreme, you're going to have a lot of strong area powers and DoTs, as well as some intense single-power damage, but his spells are not quick to cast. He can do tons of interesting things, and the visual spectacle he brings to the table is second to none.

Emma Frost (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twEzt1IGsT4
Emma Frost, like Jean Grey, has a dual-form setup. You're either going to be using strong psionic attacks to damage, confuse, and stun enemies, or you're going to be using your diamond form to deal melee damage and tank the poo poo out of bosses. Emma Frost also has a unique ability in that she can basically enslave a single enemy at a time, bringing them along with her, boosting their health and damage output by over 1000%, and using them to fight things. And then blowing them up when she's done with them to deal huge damage. She's good, but all of her costumes are kind of terrible, and we'll make fun of you for playing as her.

Gambit (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUX_xz2eRXw
A hybrid ranged/melee fighter, Gambit deals energy damage with his thrown cards and physical damage with his staff. He's got some fun gimmicks, like time-delay card explosions and summoning Rogue as his ultimate, but he's a little frail when it comes to taking damage since he's a dodge character. Gambit has a secondary Kinetic Energy resource that builds up as you move or attack, and is spent by using a Kinetic power, boosting most of his stats for a short period of time. A solid character, as long as you take advantage of his mobility to stay out of harm's way.

Ghost Rider (1350G or 600 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOQumB3vu2Y
The Spirit of Vengeance is here, and everything is now on fire. Ghost Rider uses his chains, hellfire, and yes, his motorcycle to fight enemies. You can shoot motorcycles at dudes. You can ride the motorcycle(and it controls like an actual vehicle), and you can do some sweet wheelies(aw yeah). Ghost Rider's kit is centered around AoE DoTs for the most part, but he has a very strong single-target move by way of his Penance Stare, which does more damage based on how much damage enemies have already taken. It's great for ending tough fights.

Hawkeye (450G or 200 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-czi-YSLQY
No, wait, that's not... uh. Well, she's also Hawkeye, I guess.

HAHA HAWKEYE HE'S A JOKE, RIGHT? SOME DUDE WITH A BOW. PROBABLY BAD? Nope. Hawkeye is a pretty strong character, dealing good single-target and AoE damage. He's got dodge-based defenses, so sometimes it's hard to stay alive, but as a ranged character with some good mobility options and very high Critical and Brutal strike chance, you should be able to end a lot of fights before they get too hot to handle. Purely a ranged hero, obviously, but a good one.

Hawkeye has one enhanced costume, Kate Bishop. She's pretty cool, even if she's a DIRTY DOG THIEF, HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO ME KATE????? HOW COULD YOU????????

Hulk (900G or 400 Splinters)

HULK SMASH. HULK GOOD AT SMASH. HULK NO DIE. HULK IS STRONGEST THERE IS, IN THE COMICS, BUT ALSO PRETTY STRONG IN VIDEO GAME TOO. HULK GET MADDER AND BIGGER AND STRONGER THE MORE HE FIGHTS. HULK DO GOOD DAMAGE BOTH SINGLE-TARGET AND IN BIG AREA. HULK ALSO GRAB METEOR FROM SPACE AND SMASH ENEMIES WITH IT, WHICH IS PRETTY COOL. HULK GOOD CHARACTER. HULK ALSO HANDSOME. EVERYONE LIKE HULK. HULK GREAT WITH KIDS AND ALWAYS FUN AT PARTIES.

Human Torch (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lGOGvtgea0
Johnny's all about fire DoTs and big area attacks. He's flashy, does good damage, and is on fire all the time. I feel like this isn't enough of a description for him but there's not really anything else to say. He is a man made out of fire and he will murder everything.

Invisible Woman (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSvZu9_5q1k
Sue Storm is big on stealth, AoEs, and DoTs. But she's not above just slamming dudes with invisible stuff as hard as she can. Her team support potential is very strong, with healthy defensive buffs and passive team-boosting auras, though she can be geared for strong solo play too. Plus her powers look cool and she basically is just 200% Mom Mode all the time.

Iron Man (1350G or 600 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZsXmv-BCec
Tony's an all-around good choice(probably the best in the game), with strong ranged attacks, some high-damage AoEs, and impressively resilient levels of defense thanks to his armor and his energy shield. Though he's heavy on Spirit use, one of his passives boosts the damage of his powers based on how much maximum spirit you have, so gearing him for high Spirit will actually significantly increase his damage output! Iron Man is very versatile, and has more build options than a lot of other characters do.

Jean Grey (900G or 400 Splinters)

Jean is a 'form' based character, who can either be played as Jean Grey in her standard ranged, mental-damage based form, or as The Phoenix, who deals strong energy damage but relies on 'Phoenix Force', which you build by killing enemies. Either way, Jean is a very strong ranged and AoE character, but somewhat frail. Her Phoenix Form has more damage mitigation and healing options than normal Jean, but Jean has access to some crit-boosting passives that Phoenix doesn't get.

Loki (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS7OzhdmfVk
Loki, God of Mischeif, has a wide variety of abilities, and plays in some pretty unique ways. His Giant's Blood tree contains a lot of ice spells and slows, his Sorcery tree is filled with tricky magic that can weaken or immobilize enemies, and his Illusions tree lets you create hordes of illusory Lokis in combat- and your opponents, whether AI or other players, can't tell you and them apart. However, he's a bit frail, so be sure to take advantage of his teleport-stealth power to get out and heal when things are too hot to handle.

Loki has one Enhanced Costume, Lady Loki. Which is Loki possessing the body of Sif. He did that for a while. And then he turned into a child and joined the Young Avengers. And then he turned into Tom Hiddleston and fought crime. Look, it's a long story.

Luke Cage (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOVFripjcjs
Power Man is a strong melee character, with cool abilities like being able to summon and throw a car at enemies, or beat a dude to death with a crowbar. He's also got a 'Heroes For Hire' tree, which lets him summon Iron Fist, Misty Knight, Jessica Jones and Colleen Wing to fight alongside him. Usually just one at a time, but you can also get them all at once for short bursts. Luke Cage is a boss killer, first and foremost, but he's great at handling normal enemies too.

Moon Knight (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDG2E3TOXFQ
Fighting with a wide array of weapons and gadgetry, Moon Knight has strong defenses and the potential to deal a lot of damage, both in melee and ranged situations. He also has a number of passive bonuses to his stats based on how low your health and spirit are, making Moon Knight prone to playing dangerously. And blindly suiciding into large groups of enemies. But he can usually handle it, because he's crazy as hell.

Ms. Marvel (900G or 400 Splinters)

That's Captain Marvel to you, maggot. And she's pretty great. Ms. Marvel deals a mixture of ranged and melee damage, using some hard-hitting punches and big crazy energy blasts. Her defenses and regen are strong enough to keep you in the fight, and she deals a lot of damage.

Nightcrawler (900G or 400 Splinters

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC7V41FS1SE
Kurt is a melee character with a twist- a lot of his powers are teleport-based and move him around, behaving like ranged attacks even though he's punching dudes in the face. He's incredibly mobile, even beyond teleportation, since he's got a lot of movespeed from his passives and a stealth power that lets him escape bad combat situations and regenerate health. Nightcrawler is a little fragile, especially in the end-game, but with proper gearing and knowing when to teleport out of danger you can work around that and keep him alive and in the fight.

Psylocke (900G or 400 Splinters)

Psylocke uses a mixture of martial arts, ninja sword stuff, and psionic construct weapons to fight crime. Oh and she has butterflies. They're pretty. Psylocke builds up and spends psionic resource points on her constructs, and has a variety of build options available to her in both ranged and melee flavors.

Punisher (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XoRGgpF2qc
Frank Castle is a man who shoots things. With guns. That is pretty much all he does. He has a lot of different guns, though. And some rocket launchers. Shotguns. Flamethrowers. Explosives. He's simple, but he can get poo poo done. And he basically narrates what you're doing as entries in his War Journal all the time, so that's pretty good too.

Rocket Raccoon (900G or 400 Splinters)

Able to summon multiple turrets of both offensive and defensive uses, as well as his good friend Groot, Rocket Raccoon is a very pet-centric character. However, he's no slouch himself when it comes to firepower, able to deal out very respectable damage, as well as using both a force-field and a strong dodge stat to avoid damage.

Scarlet Witch (450G or 200 Splinters)

Wanda throws AoEs everywhere and melts enemies down to nothing. Her single-target damage leaves something to be desired, but if you're fighting hordes of minions or groups of bosses, she's a great pick. Second to none in terms of crowd control.

Spiderman (1350G or 600 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYvZF1mtXqY
The above video, while still giving some good examples of Spider-Man's playstyle, no longer reflects his current skilltrees. He's actually even better than he used to be- and he was never a bad character to begin with.

My personal favorite, Spidey has been a very solid character since launch, and has only improved over time. A hybrid ranged/melee character with dodge-based defense, his damage is strong and his crowd control abilities are equally impressive. High mobility, good damage, and lots of slows and stuns to use on groups and bosses.

Spider-Man has two Enhanced Costumes.
The Superior Spider-Man is voiced by his voice actor from the 1990s Spider-Man cartoon, and is the nefarious Doctor Octopus after having stolen Peter Parker's body and assuming his identity.
The second Enhanced Costume, Symbiote Spider-Man, is also voiced by this voice actor and has a very violent, aggressive attitude to his dialogue... but it's also only available to people who bought the Ultimate Bundle before the game's release. There are no plans to release Symbiote Spider-Man to other players at this time. A shame.

Storm (450G or 200 Splinters)

Good damage for both single-target and groups, Storm has strong crowd control abilities, and is useful on almost any team. Another solid ranged character. Beware her voice acting, though- it's regarded as some of the worst in the game.

Squirrel Girl (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tnz6OaINYk4
Doreen Green is, predictably, a pet-based class. She summons squirrels. Lots of squirrels. And she has passives that give her bonuses based on how many squirrels she has. And passives that summon more squirrels, actually. Passives to make her other passives better. If you want to claw someone's eyes out while they're swarmed by dozens of squirrels, including such varieties as suicide bomber squirrels, tactical military squirrels, and hulkbuster armor squirrels, then she's your gal.

Taskmaster (450G or 200 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y67Nm8dt558&t=28s
Using a mixture of Spider-Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Daredevil's skills(and some of his own), Taskmaster is a stance-based character with the ability to use two stances of his four at any given time. He's super cheap (the cost of a starter hero!) and has tons of versatility. Absolutely worth picking up if you're not sure who to play as.

Thing (450G or 200 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z09X0RZSk5c
This is the only Thing trailer they made, sorry
Very tanky, solid melee damage, Thing is pretty simple but pretty good. His defenses are stronger than just about anyone else, and his shield stacks on top of that to make him basically unkillable. Offensively, Thing is a little underwhelming, but he can stay alive longer than anyone else.

The Thing has one Enhanced Costume, Fear Itself. As shown in the video above, it comes with unique emotes and an entirely new set of dialogue. It's pretty cool, even if you think the Fear Itself event was dumb.

Thor (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4xki2mwgU4
Thor has a mixture of hammer-based powers and his thunder god abilities, alternating between bashing dudes in the face with a hammer and frying them with lightning. He's got solid defenses, but he's a brawler at heart.

Thor has one Enhanced costume, Beta Ray Bill. He is a horse man. From space. An alien horse man that fights crime. And has Thor's powers. Comic books!

Wolverine (900G or 400 Splinters)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vulKcT42PY
Do you like melee damage? Do you like bleed DoTs? Do you like having such a high crit chance that every other character feels impotent in comparison? Do you like never being able to die because of your rediculous regen? Then you already like Wolverine. Why aren't you playing him?

What happened to Nova?

Well, he's not out yet. Nova's been delayed indefinitely, pending some lore decisions that need to be made on Marvel's end of things. It sounds like Gazillion is waiting for the original Nova (Richard Rider) to return to the comics before releasing the character- the tiny amount of footage we've seen of Nova so far was all Sam Alexander, and fan response was pretty tepid. So don't expect him soon. If you bought an Ultimate Pack, you will get Nova for free, whenever he's released. Upon his release, he will cost 400 Splinters or 900 Gs. The site still has pages for him, so for completion's sake, here's the link:

That's a lot of characters! Who's the best? Who should I play?

When in doubt, play whoever you like from comics/cartoons/movies. You'll enjoy characters more if you already like them. That said, if you want to know who's the most effective right at this very moment, ask the thread. This changes constantly, sometimes without the game even patching, as people discover new gear setups and new builds for characters. With over 20 different classes in the game, 'the best character' is changing all the time.

Team-Ups

We're still pretty low on Team-Up options right now, but they're supposed to be adding them at roughly the same rate as characters, so hopefully we see more soon.

Currently Available:

- Spider-Man
- The Falcon (Captain America: The Winter Soldier version)
- Firestar
- Magik
- Black Suit Spider-Man (Fortune Card exclusive reward)

Future confirmed team-ups:

- Doctor Doom
- Wasp
- Beta Ray Bill
- Clea
- Havok
- She-Hulk
- Deadpool 'The Kid' (hes a cowboy)
- Domino
- Spider-Woman
- Kitty Pryde
- Lockjaw
- Wolverine
- Havok
- "All of the Guardians of the Galaxy" (probably meaning the movie's roster)
- Wonder Man
- Iceman
- Bob, Agent of Hydra

A character being playable or being a team-up makes it more likely we'll see them added as the other thing, not less, so don't freak out if your favorite character is added as one of these before they're made into someone playable later on.

Hello,

I see you are still reading the first page after the OP content.

Good for you!

This game is fantastic, please be sure to hit up one of us in game for a super group invite. There you may ask dumb noobie questions to your hearts content. You might even get teased a little, but thats ok cause everyone in our super group are noobs. Each and every one!

If you were overwhelmed by the sheer girth and magnitude of the OP, dont worry too much. The Sion mega post about different hero builds is definitely worth going back and referencing though.

We usually have a pretty steady influx of events occurring. You can find out more at this website: https://www.hub4heroes.com

They also have a list of active redemption codes you can enter on the marvel heroes main web site. Free stuff is pretty great!

Alright, I'll let you lurk more now, carry on.

Nice tag.

I went ahead and bought the team-up pack, because I wanted Magick and Falcon, but there was no way in hell I was spending 1000 splinters for the two of them. Plus running double Spidey will be a pretty nice bonus.

Dr. Strange Build

This was the base I settled on

From that point you can max demons of denark for some health regain or a basic for levelling or whatever. Seven suns should probably get threaded between higher cooldown incantations and vapors of valtorr is the main reason you are looking to get the 5 stack reset. The build is very slot heavy, basically any 1 point utility powers are vying for 1 or maybe 2 slots on your bar. The passives are unimpressive even with the 50% boost they get from maxing your stacks.

This is the basic Strange build unless you're doing that astral projection gimmick, and I am not impressed at all after spending quite some time with him on TC. It's a lot of work just so you can reset Vapors of Valtorr - not worth it imo. The cast animation on Flames of the Faltine is horrible and the damage on it is mediocre yet it has a pretty small aoe and a cooldown? His most impressive dps ability isn't even an Incantation, it's his Signature. I get what they were trying to do with him and I think he is very fixable but he's just kind of a mess right now and a lot of micro for very little gain. I pretty much only play decent aoe nuke heroes, I really like Dr. Strange as a character, and I really like his spells' graphical effects but I don't think I'm going to pick him up in this state, even for Splinters.

Agreed, you might not have seen in the previous thread, but you and I basically reached the same conclusion. If they fix his cast animation times I think he'll be in a good place. I think vapors got a buff so getting resets for it is at least worthwhile.

I have terrible game ADD, which is to say I have a hard time playing one game for any serious length of time because they don't hold my interest long enough. However, Marvel Heroes is the only game I consistently return to. It's just great. Sure, Diablo 3 is pretty good now but the movement just feels so slow and the mobs of monsters seem too small. I played the PC version, both pre loot 2.0 and post loot 2.0. I have not played Reaper of Souls. The first thing you'll notice when you start playing Diablo 3 after Marvel Heroes is that your character moves slow as gently caress. I was a wizard with teleport on an 8 second cooldown, as opposed to Marvel's 1 second cooldown. Within 1 hour of playing Loot 2.0 my characters DPS had doubled. At first it felt pretty awesome, but then I realized that just having better gear didn't suddenly make the game more fun. I went back to Marvel Heroes and I don't regret this decision at all.

I just started this game last week and I'm sorta overwhelmed by the amount of content. Between story modes and three different difficulty levels, stuff like x-defenses and terminals (which I haven't tried yet), and legendary quests, I'm not really sure what to do! But it's fun nonetheless.

Should I start trying to get legendaries on my character ASAP or should I wait until I get them to high level? I already beat Act 9 on all four of my characters on the first difficulty. I have Storm, who I started with, and I got Spider Man (who I don't like/am not very good with) and Nightcrawler through splinters, as well as Squirrel Girl who I bought through G.

I bought a character and some stash room when G was discounted. I've already since run out of stash room again due to medallions and relics. Should I donate the medallions to the crafter or just buy more room?

I've got a pss though. I hope my spirit needs will be fixed once i beg/steal an uru and put lunar eclipse on it. (currently i've got bonebreaker).

If you need an Uru I or someone else could hook you up for sure. Getting runes for Lunar is something different though...

Also pretty much the standard is Hela blessings for deeps, Fandaral (sp?) for defense (I think it also adds some minor crit, but you're mainly after the dodge which iirc doesn't get the same diminishing returns stacking dodge rating does). I remember a bunch of tests being run previously showing that in some cases Odin was slightly better against bosses but worse against everything else for damage than Hela (and I think that fell off the more brutal rating you got). I don't think it's reliable enough personally to worry about using it for the spirit ability.
