It's not the designers fault that Reddit ran pre existing stuff into the ground either. All the humor found in OWB existed before Reddit was a thing anyways, along with the game.

So I started an Energy Weapons run, and I'm not really feeling it. Energy weapons are powerful, but god they are so bland and boring. Guess I'll re-roll and use guns instead again.

This is the first RPG I've played where I've tried just using melee/unarmed weapons as much as possible, and it's really really fun. They did a great job with the non gun weapons and I can't wait to get some of the DLC ones.

The tommy gun laser weapon is ridiculous. Still gives you the feeling of going full auto on someone, but has the nice side effect of melting people. Is the only Energy Weapon that feels, not-boring. Try it, and take Laser Commander perk.

I miss the Metal Blaster from FO3: The Pitt. One MFC to shoot, fires nine lasers which each roll to crit separately. It was fun just rolling up and blowing away the horrible high-level FO3 supermutants with it.

Seconding how excellent melee/unarmed feels in NV. How Skyrim, a game based around swords, axes and dragons, managed to make close combat less interesting than the post-post-apocalypse simulator I will never know.

Melee in New Vegas has a lot of fun weapons, but the actual gameplay consists in flailing sticks without any weight to them, and in third person you barely notice whether hits register or not.

Or you manage to buy a Recharger Rifle in Goodsprings. Then it's more like DAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKA -> run away from giant radscorpion for ten seconds -> DAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKA.

I like the special VATS attacks mainly. I just basically strolled casually through Dead Money by using the knife spear's Mauler to send ghost people flying.

Why is Gomorrah such a confusing place? Every playthrough I'm wandering around these hideous mustard hallways, trying to figure out the logic behind all these elevators and guarded doors. I dread that casino every time.

I like using Elijah's Advanced LAER. You have to repair it a lot, especially with the mods, but it's a nice balance of single hit damage, firing speed. and range.

Yeah, as much as I love New Vegas, there are more than a couple of places (like Gomorrah) where realism in design got in the way of fun. But that's kind of like picking nits on a unicorn.

One other thing about finding NPCs in Gomorrah is that some of them don't spawn until some event triggers them.

I went for an all business courier this time, so I'm going with Mr House. Now I have pangs of conscience because he wants me to blow up the BoS. There's nothing but disdain in what he's saying about them either, kinda feel like I can't work with someone like that now. Caesar won't take me back and Crocker's disappeared? Think Yes Man is my only choice if I don't want to genocide.

Finally went through Dead Money for the second time(last time I hated it beyond all reason) with my melee Logan's Loophole character(chems last 40 minutes gently caress yeah), and wow it went fast. Between ghost people being hilariously vulnerable to melee and knowing where to go and not being afraid to run through fog I barely had to put any effort into the dlc. Once you get used to how the dlc is constucted you can usually get where you need to go without getting lost and hitting dozens of traps. I even got all the recipes and stuff I wanted without really looking. It went from being my least favourite dlc to my second favourite after OWB.

All that stuff existed before Reddit, and calling it Reddit humor is just ignorant. If and when FO4 comes out, where would you hope it was located? I think if they set it in the South it would be pretty interesting. Maybe I liked the setting of Point Lookout too much. That or have it take place in NYC. Its big and diverse enough to have an entire game based around it, plus having some art deco gothic canyon to explore would be visually stunning.
