He's soooo dreamy...

Adore and Bianca are turning this into RuPaul's Best Friend Race and I love it. The overall lack of big theatrical rivalries is hugely refreshing after recently binging on seasons 4 and 5. Yeah, there's Darienne and Ben, and Courtney's a bit of a bitch to Joslyn, but those are so minor compared to previous seasons they barely count.

For all the harping on Milk I've done over the weeks, I really feel like the bottom two should have been Darienne and Trinity. Milk had issues but she stepped out of her comfort zone and gave a spirited performance in the rap video, while Darienne was clearly just struggling to not die. Milk's runway was unfortunate, but I wasn't crazy about Darienne's either and I felt like her rap performance was worse than Milk's runway. Oh well, either way the show is chewing through fodder, so the order in which it happens doesn't matter too much to me right now.

Can anyone here articulate the rampant fan support that I've see for Gia? Like, she's gone, and I haven't seen a lot of her stans here on TVIV, but I see them everywhere else and I DON'T GET IT. Like, I want to say her fans just don't get that both she and they are too stupid to do shade in a clever/non-catty way, but that seems awfully dismissive. Yet... I haven't seen anything about Gia in the competition or other media to change my opinion. Am I arguing with morons?! I... I don't even know anymore!! Her letter was just the poo poo-cherry on a Gia poo poo-cake. I was amused and scandalized by Kenya's letter. This? This just re-affirmed my low opinions.

This week's main challenge marked the 2nd week in a row where any prior season would've sent me cringing, but this one legitimately resulted in laughing a few times. I have bought in a bit to the fandom saying "things feel rushed" since last year and the year prior we'd already had a double-elimination at this point, and the library doesn't usually open until there are only 7? queens left. That said, this was one of the best libraries overall, and the rap was nowhere near as awful as it would've been even a season prior. Makes me wonder what kind of robot-crazy-business queens are going to show up for season 7!

Darianne's trashbag coat for the rap was poo poo, much like her rapping, but I feel like they didn't want to put her into the bottom since she was wearing the same runway look as Triana. :v:

^A lot of people are still excessively impressed with unclockable female impersonation. That's the only explanation I have for Gia's continuing popularity.

Eve and Trina do not age. I guess they were both about 20 when they first broke out, and are only in their mid-thirties now, but still, amazing. And they were great judges.

That was an excellent library challenge, lots of good burns. I think I liked Ben's read of Joslyn best. "You've got some really nice old-fashioned qualities. Like how you paint in sepia tones and your voice sounds like a dialup modem."

Enjoying Adore a whole lot more than I thought I would. I attribute her personal development entirely to Bianca.

Speaking of whom, didn't Bianca look beautiful on the runway? So so so pretty and stately and elegant. She's a goddamned superhero.

What rampant fan support? I feel like just about everyone, myself included, turned against her after that totally hateful exit. She was a great example of unintentional funny right up until she was very intentionally nasty.

Case in point. (And Alaska continues to impress even more than when she was on the show.)

People who can go now: Laganja (aggressively mediocre), Darienne (no more sparkle bag I can't handle it), Trinity (snooze zone)

People who are going to lip-sync next week if they don't get their act together: Courtney :sigh: (with the chance to get to the final 3 or 4 if she pulls a comeback because Ru eats that stuff up)

People who will be in at least the top 4 if they can wear a floor length dress just once: Adore

Everyone else can stay, although I feel like we're approaching the point in the competition where Joslyn might be in danger if she flubs something. :ohdear:

Darienne consistently has the same looks every week and I'm pretty tired of it. I think I can understand, being a big girl myself, that she's found something that works for her (her makeup/hair is always great) and she doesn't want to step outside her comfort zone. If she doesn't do something different she's going to be out, soon. Pretty sick of her in her talking head interviews, too.

I am fairly sad to see Milk go, since I'm a big fan of her type of drag. But she didn't stand out past her first three looks (counting her intro) and it was really a matter of time.

Otherwise, I think Bianca could easily make top 3. She really seems to know what she's doing and what she wants to do, and I've generally liked her whole attitude. I like Ben a lot too, I hope she can make it far. Otherwise I don't have strong feelings about anyone else. I think Courtney could make it too, I do like her.

But yeah I'd be fine seeing Laganja go soon. She's just so dull and her emotional baby stuff is really dragging on me.

It's not that I'm unimpressed with Milk's style of drag, I much prefer it over Gia's, it's that I don't like her quality. I like the kookie, unusual stuff but she just didn't put a polish to it. It annoyed me that Gia kept clocking everyone for not being feminine enough, as though that's the end all to drag. It makes me think that her stupidity wasn't an act if she couldn't wrap her head around the idea that drag can be about gender bending and unconventional entertainment. It also didn't help that she got after everyone for being a dude but couldn't keep her eyelashes in check.

My top 3 would be Bianca, because I love her attitude and wit, Ben (although I think he's becoming kinda braggy), and Courtney. Last episode someone mentioned that they loved Adore's take on Anna Nicole Smith but seeing her as herself she didn't make such a big impact because of the similarity and I kind of get that vibe from her. There's something about every queen that I dislike except Bianca, I'm living for her.

Up is down! Black is white! Dorothy's an airhead and Rose is the sassy bitch! These queens are making me all topsy-turvy!

Oh, Milk. You expired. :rimshot: But as much as I adored her, as much as I love her drag, her skills were too limited for the competition; God bless a kooky queen, but in this competition she can't be kooky at the expense of polished.

I'll admit that my initial dismissal of Adore was off the mark. People on the internet kept chirping about her, and I didn't get it. I get it now. She's not glamorous (yet), but she's got star power in spades.

But my esteem for Ben has taken a small hit, and my love for Darienne has taken a big dive. Why is Ben suddenly so needy? Why is Darienne suddenly so nasty? There's two types of big girl queens: A Latrice or a Delta. Darienne, choose wisely.

Joslyn and Bianca still delight me. LaGanja and Trinity are fish flopping on a dock.

Alaska just gets more and more amazing:

Trinity is so frustrating. She is a fantastic performer when she's lip syncing but when it comes to performing in any other way, she's insecure, full of self-doubt and excuses, and comes off flat. How can she be so confident when she lip syncs but so weak when she does anything else?

I noticed too that Trinity is an ace at the lip sync and not great at anything else. But given that the elimination comes down to lip sync, if you're gonna be a one-trick pony on this show it's a great trick to have!

Not necessarily. No matter how fantastic a lip syncer you are, your chances of living another day drop dramatically with each lip sync. Hit two before the final showdown, and you're almost guaranteed to go out within the next episode or two. Hit three, and you're about to get gone.

Only three queens have ever survived past three lipsyncs:

Alexis Mateo (S3): Won three times to make it into the Top 3 (and arguably only won the last time because Yara lost her poo poo)

Jujubee (S2): Won her third time to make it into the Top 3

Coco Montrese (S5): Won her third time...and was eliminated right after.

If you want to see the cold hard numbers from last season, computational social science blog Bad Hessian did a statistical analysis that basically confirms the rule. Even the talented lipsyncer Trinity is very, very likely to get kicked if she screws up one more time. Three strikes, and you're out.

Why did Laganja have different reading glasses from everyone else? Somehow they made the rhyming jokes even worse.

I also have no idea why Darienne chose Laganja first, or why it was such a huge deal to Dela. He has to know that he wouldn't be first pick in a 90s rap challenge, he's shown nothing whatsoever that would relate to that in the competition. Love miss Ben but I agree with Michelle for once that he's been a little one-note and skews older than he is. That said, unless he truly fucks up, I'll be surprised to see him leave before the finale.

Whenever queens like Gia or Trinity complain about the show not being enough about glamour and beauty, I wonder if they've ever seen RuPaul's Drag Race before. The only winner I can really think of that managed to succeed mostly on that was maybe Tyra Sanchez. Jinkx and Sharon certainly weren't especially glamorous or high fashion or anything like that, and Raja was able to do a lot more than just look good.

what a humorous anecdote.
Have any of the other seasons had it so that they're wearing the same clothes in all the talking head segments in every episode? I know season 4 didn't because I spotted a moment where Jiggly's outfit changed twice in the middle of a statement, cutting between the talking head and the workroom to make it seem like it wasn't doing that.
You think they did all the talking heads on the same day this time? And if it's possible to spoil yourself on who goes home when based on workroom outfit? I know the moment Ben or Courtney walks in the workroom wearing their talking head outfit I'm going to instantly see it.

You know as much as I hate Laganga's personality I have to admit that she is really pretty in drag. I also think she wins over Courntey for tightest tuck because Jesus, she was flat as a Ken doll down there in both the challenge and runway.

Joslyn is adorable and I'm thinking she might actually become my favourite barring any huge faux-pas. She was really good in the rap and I think she has more of a feminine figure than Courtney, yet she isn't always going on about her "body-ody-ody".

Ben really surprised me with the rap. I think Darienne made a big mistake just dismissing Ben when choosing people because she really turned it out. Yeah, so maybe girl doesn't have any street cred (and Laganga does?), but she's a solid performer and she's won two challenges so far. And I absolutely loved her runway outfit. She looked gorgeous and if it was on just the runway I think she definitely should have won over Adore.

Speaking of, I'm finally starting to see what everyone else saw in Adore. She's not as bitchy as I first thought she was and her talking heads are pretty amusing. Not to mention she killed it in the challenge. I think she's benefiting from Bianca's influence and distancing herself from the drama queen that is Laganga.

Everyone else was pretty meh for me. Courtney is fishy as hell, but she just doesn't impress in the runway. Yeah yeah, you're naked again, Snooooore. Like others have said Milk just wasn't polished enough to get away with being so kooky. Take a page from the book of Nina Flowers girl. You can be strange and still glamourous. It's too bad because she had some amazing legs and was really attractive out of drag. TKB is on borrowed time and good riddance with her defeatist attitude. Bianca got a little lost in the crowd this week which is too bad because she's awesome. Hopefully she'll stand out a little more next time.

Well, it was entirely personal and strategic on Darienne's part. I don't really get where it's coming from, but Darienne suddenly has it out for Ben, so not only did she not want her on her team, she picked who she thought all the strongest performers were for her team, and stuck Ben with who she saw as the losers. She wants Ben off the show.

Shhh... don't wake up the sleeping lion :3:

Who else thinks Courtney's bedsheet was more interesting than her 'reveal'? When she first appeared all wrapped up I reacted to how glamorous the bedsheet actually looks, but then she discarded it for plain and boring undergarments.

At the very least, Joslyn's gonna be part of top 6. I want to say that I don't think she's gonna make it to the finale, but then again when I first saw her audition snippets, I thought she's not even gonna be top 10, so.

Though as far as 'black horses' go, Adore may top Joslyn on that front. At the rate she's going, there's actually a good chance she might even win this whole thing.

I'm sad that Milk goes home but I've got to agree that she hasn't really brought it. I don't really think that she's unpolished, really, it's just that sometimes her visions are not obvious enough. Like avant-garde artists who spend too much time on concepts, and not enough on how to convey that concept to the audience. And it's interesting to note that Milk is sort of like how the 'normal' pageant queens usually perform in the competition - they falter on challenges and bank on their runway looks.

And Trinity is sweet but too defensive, Laganja is a spoiled brat, Bianca is someone I love to hate, Darienne and Ben are great too but the forced rivalry feels weird and contrived.
