I've had it for a few years now and it is the best head unit i've ever owned. Not too flashy, very simple, works with everything I've thrown at it, and matches my truck's interior to look almost stock. I also have a permanent hidden iPhone cord hooked up the rear USB input that runs under my bench seat and is hidden in the middle of the seat because I'm loving classy like that.
.

I almost bought that deck (or at least a similar one) over the Toronto, but I had a touchscreen Clarion at one point that I didn't care for and wanted to try out Blaupunkt because I had always heard good things about the company. Good to know its a keeper in case I want to take advantage of my double din again. Well, and because I'm really drat fickle about my stereos and change them out constantly (I think I've kept the Blaupunkt around longer than any deck I've had in the past decade, and I've had it less than a year).

E: Oh, and props for the hidden iPhone cable. You know what's up.

No, I mean, a rear USB is going to be inside the dash. How do you get to it, and why not just have two on the front?

You route the cable to something like the glove box or cup holder.

I didn't go for the optional iPod adapter when I bought a Mazda 3 some years ago. It does have an AUX input, but that wouldn't let me use the controls in the steering wheel. Last year I installed a cheap Chinese knockoff (these are sold under various brand names, but seem all to be the same hardware). Connects to the stereo's CD changer port, and almost works perfectly (it reports the wrong tracks sometimes, and switches out of shuffling mode when a traffic announcement comes in on the radio, but otherwise it's fine).

A bit like this (not my actual model, but see above):

It used to be that Crutchfield would give you everything you needed to hook up a stereo for free. Wiring harnesses, dash kits, etc, which some of that stuff they still give out free, but I guess that idea of everything included is somewhat obsolete, though more just not practical anymore. At least they still offer a discount on all of these relatively new PAC interface kits, but it sucks that, even at a brick and mortar store, you can't just look at the price of a car stereo and know that price would be the total cost, installation included (or maybe like $20 extra) like you used to.

My Pioneer DEH-80PRS is the best head unit because it's not blue.

Well, it can be blue, but I set it to white in the daytime and red at night. The interface is actually fairly intuitive to use, and I can scroll through my songs without looking at it except for a very brief glance to see where I am in the list.

It also has settings for an automatic aucoustics compensator using a mic that plugs into the aux in port, a CD player and SD card slot if you fold the faceplate down, various stereo time delay settings, and so on, but I just have an old iPod plugged in there and a dead passenger door speaker.

Oh, and one of the backgrounds is "movie", which displays not movies from an iPod, but a loop of a soccer ball being kicked and turning into a shark

Sort of, they're essentially an 'attract mode' for when the stereo is on display in a showroom.

I didn't notice it when I grabbed the photo, but that projector I posted is a 110 projector! I found the picture on eBay. I didn't even know you could ever get 110 slide film, but Wiki says Kodak made it until 1982, and Lomography recently re-introduced it but it doesn't seem to be available any more.

Egad, that does look like a stock unit. It looks so much like the stock unit out of my '00 Accord that if I popped that in there it would probably fool just about anybody at first glance. Designs like this are way, way better in my opinion than the LED strobe light nightmares you see on the shelves nowadays.

Man I've been looking for a medium format slide projector for a while. I have a few old glass cinema slides I found in the junk room of a movie theatre I used to work at, and I really don't have room for another cinema size projector in my house. They are film wedged between two pieces of glass and some oddball size that fits nothing I've seen so far.

Hey, look. Look, if- if you screw me on this, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine, you rat bastard!
In the spirit of Tax Season, several years ago the IRS had a tax filing system that worked entirely over the phone.

You'd dial an 800 number, sit there and spend 10-20 or so minutes just using your touchtone to enter in your Tax ID#, SSN, your income info, etc. and you were done. I actually sort of liked it because for how little I had to file it was pretty quick and easy.

I think they cancelled the service about 10 years ago, though.

Almost got that one (or DEH-1600, I think) for my Miata but decided to try to stick a tablet in the dash instead... that I never did. But yeah, that Pioneer unit is one of the best combinations of features I managed to find: SD card for your long-term collection, front USB and Aux for quickly adding something else, and even Bluetooth for streaming from the phone or. Also not very blingy.

The concept isn't dead at least. The Australian tax office has for quite a few years now released each year a program which takes the entire Australian tax code and turns it into about 30 minutes of "click next and occasionally fill in boxes". The thing is amazing, if you give it your tax file number and your total income for the year, it will pre-fill 99% of the forms for you anyway, so all you really need to do is put in all the expenses you want to get refunded from your tax balance

I look forward to the day when I can legitimately post this (and all other government paperwork) in this thread:

Doing my taxes this year consisted of not clicking the "I want to make changes"-button on a web page. We've basically got the same pre-filled system as you (though web based), but it's had a couple of years more polish, to the point where it seems to be correct for a lot of people.

Of course, the system that handles logins tends to melt in exciting ways during peaks; in 2012 it logged a couple of hundred people into the account of one random and increasingly unhappy guy, and last year they had some caching issues that also dropped people into random wrong accounts. I think it worked out ok this year, though.

The state of California also has one that works pretty well, for state taxes.

Although really filling out a 1040 is not that difficult, at least for me. Single filing, not a veteran, not retired, not blind, no capital gains/losses, itemize deduction because of state tax, I have a job so I don't get the million little credits for making <$20k or whatever... I filled in maybe 10 boxes total, and half of those were "subtract line Y from line X".

Most major tax software/websites can import a ton of data depending on where you work, at least. My W2, retirement accounts and stock poo poo all synced for me, so I barely had to type anything. My wife's company didn't sync though, so that was all hand-entered.

But yeah, why do we have to go through all the trouble of filling that poo poo out when the IRS will *definitely* tell you exactly how much you owe them regardless of what you put in your tax return. You thought you were getting a refund of X? Well anyway you have to pay us Y *loving NOW*.

GE Money is a "good idea" in limited markets and circumstances, but is often seen outside them. GE Medical, however, is a powerhouse in medical imaging, and is advancing our imaging technology by leaps and bounds every day.

GE's consumer electronics arm--the one responsible for the lovely discmans and TV's that quit working after six days--has gone to poo poo, though. They likely just hire Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers to poo poo out cheap-rear end stuff and slap their logo on it so they can sell it at a huge markup.

GE is a really lovely company. Back in 2007 they were financing their day-to-day expenses with corporate paper (short term loans) instead of keeping a reasonable amount of cash in the bank. Then the corporate paper market disappeared overnight due to the Lehmann Brothers collapse. Suddenly GE didn't even have enough money for it's own payroll. If not for the Fed agreeing to buy all of it's corporate paper they would have gone bankrupt.
