There might have been incontinence, yes. But in the manga, there was a girl who wore diapers and constantly wet herself. Thankfully, she wasn't in the anime.

Elfen Lied is like the anime equivalent of the kid who lights neighborhood pets on fire to show everyone how hardcore he is. What I saw of Brynhildr wasn't quite that bad, but it wasn't exactly instilling much confidence that it would actually be worth watching.

You guys are making me curious about Elfen Lied now. Is the violence more Quentin Tarantino stylishly gratuitous violence, or just needlessly brutal and gory violence all the time for no reason?

It's problematic alright. I could see which parts people liked when I watched it. Those exist, but they're actually not that good. So overall it wasn't worth my time.

Saw the second episode of Mahouka and I'm not sure how to feel. I think I've been watching enough anime that I can mostly ignore the completely transparent not-actually-incest setup. The overpowered protagonist isn't so bad as long as he remains kind of stick in the mud instead of most obnoxious person ever. The art is nice enough and if I keep watching it I'll probably have a better time than I did watching Kyoukai no Kanata.

I thought it was ridiculously angsty, dumb, and pointlessly violent.

Elfen Lied is basically the hospital escape scene from Akira, but with Tetsuo replaced with Chi from Chobits. Except actually worse than that description makes it sound like.

I honestly could never get past the first episode of Elfen Lied just because it felt so mean-spirited, so there was always this sense of dread that she would just murder the whole cast in later episodes at the drop of a beat. I have no issues with Berserk, Hellsing, and other similar stuff, so not quite sure other than just distaste at the 1st episode.

I got vibes that it was the latter. I'd totally be up for a simulcast of hilariously terrible anime. I never did finish the second season of Symphogear.

Never caught Elfen Lied myself, but I'm all for a thread/simulwatch of awful anime. I've even got some personal research of craptacular poo poo to donate to the cause. In the meantime though there's still the Marvel Disk Wars thread for all your G-rated bad anime needs.

I guess I'll be the contrarian and say I thought Elfen Lied was ok. Although it was certainly over the top in its violence and nudity. I read the manga and never saw the anime, though, so maybe that makes a difference. Basically it felt like a typical magical girlfriend thing with the main character finding a naive, super-powered girl pursued by a shadowy organization. The difference is that the girl was an actual monster who absolutely should be locked up or else she would cause the extinction of humanity. Watching the second episode of Gokukoku no Brynhildr it struck me that the story was really similar except with all the parts that made Elfen Lied interesting stripped out. Other stuff from this season: Mekaku City Actors was certainly an animated entertainment program produced in Japan and distributed to televisions around the country. Presumable for people to watch. Soul Eater Not seemed alright. The strongest part of Soul Eater was the setting and this seems to focus on that. Hopefully without the writers deciding that Black Star also needs to become the terrible protagonist of this show as well halfway through. Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san seems like its schtick would get old pretty quickly. One girl acts like a dog, the other acts like a cat. Hilarious. Even at three minutes long it was getting a bit tired by the end of the first episode. Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka was a pretty standard comedy slice of life thing. With quite a bit more fanservice than you tend to expect from the genre, however. Hopefully it was just a first-episode thing to try and get some (terrible, smelly) fans. Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin was not too terribly cliched in its opening episode. But it's really hard to say at this point what kind of show it's even going to be. There are a lot of directions they could go with it. Knights of Sidonia seemed pretty interesting to me. The animation is a bit awkward but it didn't bother me too much. I haven't read the manga to compare, though. Hitsugi no Chaika felt pretty solid in the first episode. I'm apparently the only person who didn't like Scrapped Princess, though. I do recall liking that show pretty well after the first episode as well, so I'm a bit leery of this in the long term. Ping Pong seemed like a pretty typical sports thing with a more interesting animation style. I don't know if it will surpass Chihayafuru as best sports anime, but I expect it'll be fun to watch.

Basically think up any usual aspect that people would give their self-insert characters, and you'd probably be spot on.

I thought this was obvious enough when every female is giving him the anime equivalent of the sex eyes and he's totally oblivious to it (apparently forever? I suppose that's an upgrade from Kirito).
